Thanks, PGold. I did not see any references to seat cushions, but I will give them a call.

Sam's has 2 pillows. The $30 one which is in the store and a $40 one available on the web site. The one I saw in the store is a layer of viscoelastic foam on top of a thicker foam base of unknown quality. The hand print does disappear immediately. I left it on the shelf. The other one on the web seems more promising. I have a bb&b %20 off (recent move). I'll find that l~n~t one too. The best deal s/b available at around $40.

Polyurethane is a polymer (plastic) of urethane. Monomer urethane is a clear organic liquid. Polymer urethane is a rubbery plastic, which can be blown into foam for these pillows. In the context of foam products, "Polyurethane" and "Urethane" mean the same thing.

QSW: Thanks for taking the time to measure the pillow for me. :)

Steve Guilliot: Thanks for the explanation!

Oh, I've PM'ed the people that I have been able to. Everyone else needs to enable Private Messaging in your profile (such as braverich and scuzy). ;)

L00PY: that's actually just another company selling Isotonic Pillows. Carpenter Company makes them and they don't sell directly to the public. But it's a great link since it has a nice description of Isotonic (which I believe is the runner up to Tempur-Pedic).

The pic of the guy holding the two pillows looks like a "happy" version of the British Judge (Simon) from "American Idol." I may have nightmares now. ;)

i'm not certain of this....but I think I read once that Linen's N Things will take Bed Bath & Beyond coupons.

Or it might be vice versa...??

Linens N Things, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Strouds all accept competitor coupons. I was able to use the LNT coupon at BB&B, although they were a little hesitant because it was printed out (even though it says "Print this out.." right on the coupon). Your Mileage May Vary on this one. But if you have a "real" coupon, you won't have any problems using it at another store.

I'd also recommend signing up for each store's mailing list. They tend to send out a 20% off coupon every few months. :)

Wow how come no one mentioned Obus Forme? I had a bad upper back - woke up every night sore and had to have someone crack it. I got a contour Obus Forme pillow ( I tried some cheap noname thing and it hurt more) and it works wonders. But now I forgot my pillow back at my parent's place halfway across the country and need another...

I went to Macy's and saw a bad polyurethane foam pillow for $30... seemed sketchy

Tempur-Pedic is visco-elastic
ObusForme is polyurethane foam

Which is better? and im SURE you can find generic brands with those materials.

btw, there is a Hot Deals forum for WHATEVER I'm looking for. Anandtech rocks

Wow, I went into a couple of Macy's when I first started my "hunt" and they didn't carry any type of Memory Foam Pillow. They must have just jumped on the bandwagon...or they are trying them out in select locations.

Obus Forme does look interesting. Too bad they only sell them in private health care stores. I'm guessing they are probably expensive.

In terms of a generic Memory Foam pillow, I'd consider anything non-Tempur-Pedic to be generic. :)

On a sidenote, the "As Seen On TV" Store in the West Covina, CA is selling "The Swedish Support Pillow." I had seen it before and decided to go check it out again yesterday. It originally was $39.99 but now it's $29.99. I was not too impressed with how it felt in the store, but decided to buy it. The problem was the display was still sealed in plastic, so I couldn't tell how good it was. It felt very very solid, so I figured if you let it air out after removing the plastic it would get softer. I opened it and as I drove home in the satanic heat, I felt it. Wow! It felt really dense but quite soft. Later last night I was ready to retire and took the pillow out. It was rock hard again. I tried to "knead" it and it did loosen up a little.

The end result..I took it back today. Unfortuanately I got dinged $6.00 because they charge a 20% restocking fee. That is pretty standard for any "As Seen On TV" Store, and I knew that I might have to pay that...so it's no biggie. The funny thing is I saw a couple buying the exact same pillow right when I walked in. So I hung around outside of the store until after they left before I made my return. As I told the lady, I didn't want to hurt her business! :)

Anyway, I *would* (believe it or not) recommend that pillow to someone who likes an EXTRA firm pillow. I mean it did feel quite dense. It just wasn't soft enough for me. It only felt nice driving home..but that was because it was really really HOT outside (no a/c...woe is me). So this pillow is indeed temperature sensitive. So if you have a hot & big head, it'd probably start forming to it pretty quickly (and yes, I am referring to the upper body!).

So who knows...maybe if you are near West Covina and buy the pillow I had you might get it for even more of a discount! Imagine owning "the" pillow once graced by Atrac!!! (Let me be the first to vomit at that comment...heh heh).

After sleping on the one from costco I have to say taht it is a little stiff for me. I like fluffy-type pillows. Its seems like it was designed for someone thatd has a heavy head. Maybe I will attach some weights to my head...

edit: read my second post after this one, it will explain why it was stiff. it is an official post.

Thats exactly the same feeling I got after trying out the $30 one from Sams.

I love my Tempurpedic pillow! To get rid of the original odor (I couldn't go near it)- spray it with Febreeze, aim a fan on it for a couple of hours, and the oder will be completely gone. Works like a charm!

This is the *exact* feeling I had after using some of the low density pillows. I've found that it's all about the hand print. If you have to push really hard to make a handprint and it springs back *really* fast, then the pillow is probably going to leave you with a stiff neck. If you can push it in fairly easy (but still requring a little effort because they are heat sensitive), the handprint shows up, then slowly returns back to form, you're gonna have a very nice rest.

Also if you pick the pillow up and it's really light, it's going to suck. If you pick up the Tempur-Pedic or Isotonic, it's got some real mass to it and you can just feel that you're holding something.

This is why I recommend everyone go into Brookstone or Bed Bath & Beyond and feel the $99 Tempur-Pedic pillow! If you go into Bed Bath & Beyond you'll have the opportunity to feel both the Tempur-Pedic and the Isotonic. There's no real way to explain the difference between good and bad. It has to be experienced first hand (pun intended).

Looking around on EBay, there are some pretty good prices on "memory foam" mattress pads. Has anyone tried any of these?

It's funny that you mention mattress pads on eBay. I bid and won one of them on Saturday. I'll let everyone know how it is when it arrives. There seem to be about 4 different sellers of the foam pads. I actually chose the one that has the least for sale. The ad mentioned 2" Thick, 4 lb Density, and "The Carpenter Company" so I figured I'd be getting Isotonic grade padding. They have thicker ones on eBay, but I'm definately on a limited budget.

It kind of sucks living in Southern California. Everyone selling these things on eBay is either on the East Coast or in the Midwest and they seem to all use UPS Ground. I have to wait over a week for my new little pieces of heaven! :(

The pillow does do the hand print thing ok, it doesent spring right back up, but it seems like you need some force behind the push.

Atrac: which person on ebay is the one to get it from? I'm thinking of getting the 4 1/2" tempur-pedic one. Thanks.

We've been doing a good job of reporting in this thread the various Memory Foam Pillows that we've encountered. I just wanted to add this one to the mix, simply because it's a variation on the memory foam idea.

Honestly, I'm just mentioning it because I think the name of it is priceless:

Dr Ho's Ho Fun Pillow

I think for the price it's probably too expensive. It's an interesting idea though. Sounds like a variation on the "Chillow" idea mentioned earlier in this thread by mailnride. But I don't have any experience with it.

Oh, and it looks like Avon has their version of a memory foam pillow too:

Sweet Dreams Contour Pillow

It looks like a clone of the Homedics Pillow at Linens N Things.

The list just never ends!

I'd also be curious to know if anyone regularily goes to swap meets and has seen anyone selling Memory Foam Pillows. I'd be willing to bet that they are the same or similar to the ones selling at the "As Seen On TV" store. Just a hunch though...

Ah. I misread their manufacturer's page where it sounds like they're claiming to be the ER Carpenter company.
