yah, but im putting the sensus 4" topper on top of the crappy jc penny foam, so who cares really? i only got it for a little extra give and to raise it up a bit so im not practically sleeping on the floor. 🙂

do you have those ontop of your other mattress or jusy ontop of the box spring? let me know how this turned out. I may do the same.

k, i FINALLY got my order from mark's 1/2 price (i HATE fedex so much). right now i have it set up on my sister's bed (she's out of town) on top of the box spring and mattress. i think im gonna move it down to my room today, and ill let you know how it is. so far, ive tried it out for about 40 minutes and my back pain went away... im already in love with it. will give you a more detailed review once i get a few nights worth of sleep under my belt 😉

oh, and mark's threw in a quiltflex topper for free, haven't tried that out yet but it seems very soft, almost like a cloud.

here are some questions i emailed to them...
A few questions about the order...

Here is the way I THINK the setup should go:
Terrycloth
Quiltflex
4" Sensus Topper
5" Extra Firm Support Polyurethane Foam
Box Spring

Does that seem right or should I put a piece of plywood between the box spring and the 5" foam?

The springs of the box allow motion transfer between individuals in the bed. If ply wood was installed you would be closer to the ideal base of solid wood platform surface which eliminated motion transfer and might make the sleep surface firmer.

How often should I rotate the foam?

Rotate memory foam 2x per year; be careful foam is easily torn.

Also, what are the washing instructions on the terrycloth cover?

Terry Temper cover--- cold water wash--- gentle cycle ----line dry NOT HOT WATER NO DRYERS ALLOWED.

And finally, should I put a sheet on top of everything or is the terrycloth cover a 'sheet replacement'?

I know the terry cloth feels wonderful but weekly linen is recommended to cover terry temper. Cover is to keep kit together as one unit.

hope that answers a few questions other people reading this thread may have.

I found what may be a hot deal but it depends on if these pillows are really good or not.

If you live near a Price Chopper supermarket in NY, VT, PA, CT, Or MA they have a couple of memory foam/viscoelastic type pillows on sale.

They have the TherAPedic ViscoLoft pillows which are on sale for $15 This one

And they have Cradlesoft Memory Foam pillows for $10 This one

I'll try both of them and see how they are but anyone know anything about these pillows?

They don't ship unfortunately. I tried the Cradlesoft last night and it seems ok. I suppose I'll know better after sleeping on it for a few days.

As for changoboy, this thread is not supposed to die. We are supposed to add to it as we go along.

I beg to differ, Hummer. It is a freakin' pillow and the thread has been out longer than you've been out of the closet, PUSS!

I don't feel the need to post constantly, but have been using Anandtech for 5 years now (so much for the newbie, chump). Seriously, a thread about a foam pillow ongoing since 2002? It's just silly, really. That is all I'm saying. A foam pillow is nothing to get moody about, so don't take it as a personal attack.

if its just about a 'foam pillow' than how come this thread has been going for so long and has so many posts??? why not read the thread and maybe you'll learn something from it (like that the thread isn't just about a foam pillow, but ALL TYPES OF MEMORY FOAM). atrac's thread helped out tons of people. if you have a problem with this thread, DON'T READ IT.

oh, and for those that do read this thread to learn about memory foam:

ive been a little busy lately and haven't had time to write up my review... so here's a quick rundown on how things are going.

so far im very happy with the purchase. i haven't had a chance to go out and buy plywood to put between the 5" jcpenny foam and the boxspring, but even without it the bed is VERY nice. i used to stay up til 4am just cuz my old mattress was so awful, but now i try to be in bed by 12 at the latest. most nights im in bed @ 9 and i watch a dvd. best purchase ive made in a long time.

and i suggest you get the terrycloth mattress kit cover, it holds the 5"jc and the 4"sensus together so its 1 'mattress' instead of 2. it also keeps the 2 foams from sliding around and makes it a lot easier to carry the foam and move it around the house if need be.

if i get more time, i might write up a better 'review', but for now that'll have to do 😉

So far so good with the cradlesoft pillow. I don't know if I'll ever give the ViscoLoft pillow a try as I've basically stuck it under the cradlesoft one.

What is this "iso" thing you are talking Dieseldave?

For anyone who is interested, I wanted to give some (I think) valuable feedback on Tempurpedic products. I was a die-hard Tempurpedic fan, with the emphasis on "WAS"- we have had their mattress and pillows for several years now. My hubbie gave up on the pillow a long time ago because of softening, but truthfully I still find mine comfortable. The bed is a different story. Count on the bed lasting for about 4 years only! My husband and I are both thin, and his side started softening after 4 years. It is now 4 1/2 years later, and while my side is not as soft as his, it is catching up quickly, and we both wake up with backaches. The company is cute too- their warranty requires a .6 inch depression, but won't cover extreme softening so as to make the mattress no longer supportive. When you press it with your hand it even has a cellophany-type noise. The company has been non-responsive. If you really search online, a lot of people have had similar complaints. I think a mattress that costs in excess of $2000 for a king size should have a life span for more than 4 1/2 years. Avoid an expensive mistake...while it retains its firmness, it feels wonderful, but suffice it to say I am replacing it with another brand mattress. All of the memory foam suffers from similar limitations as far as I could ascertain talking to salespeople and from my research.:disgust::frown::|

Ditto with the Sensus topper, which I've had (3") for about 9 months now. It's still quite usable, but definitely squishier in the center. When I feel it has been maxed out, I intend to cut it down the center and back the sides together, possibly with the adhesive spray they are selling at um.. well it's been so long I forgot the name of the foam place, but it's elsewhere in this thread 🙂 Anyway, if it works, it ought to double the lifespan (for those of us sleeping alone, tyvm).

I'd be interested in knowing if once a foam mattress has "gone" if it is usable as a support, or if it is best to start over from scratch, i.e. would adding a 1 or 2 inch topper to your squished 3" or 4" bed offer a quality and longevity equal to replacing the 3 or 4 inch topper, or do you just bite the bullet and get another full thickness topper?

I bought "the perfect pillow" by "Carpenter" at Elder Bearman today for approx $30 + tax. This is a 100% visco-elastic memory foam pillow. I checked fleabay and they were listing there for $50 + $7 for shipping. The regular price was $80 where I got it from but always seem to be listed there for $40 and sometimes went as low as $35(sale price). I havent tried it out yet but it sure is soft. Going to have it replace my cheap $5 meijer pillow. This is my first pillow that I spent over $10 for.

i bought the memory foam pillow from costco yesterday ($24.XX).
it is called the novaform elite contour pillow.
linky

after sleeping on it for one night my neck hurts. are these pillows only made
for side sleepers? i am a back sleeper.

how does the one from smart bargains compare to the one at costco ?
linky

i guess this one is going back to costco...

My neck hurt for the first 2 nights. Now its fine. Strange. The pillow I got looks like a regular pillow except its much heavier. Since it looks like a regular pillow, I don't see why you couldn't sleep on it at any position you choose.

Just an update. My Sam's Club memory foam pillow is still going strong. I continue to be amazed at how much more comfortable this has been. At first, it seemed a little hard but after a couple of nights, I realized the great support being given. It's been a long time since I've had a neck ache in the morning. Thanks to Atrac for providing so much early info.

Next year, I'll try the full bed when it's time to replace my mattress. (I expect the thread to continue till I'm done with all my purchases. 🙂 )

Any discounts or anything to get the Sharper Image Tempur-pedic pillows? Or are there any other places that sell those? Right now they want 89 which is a bit steep and Ebay isn't a whole lot better after shipping (usually $10+)

A few months ago I purchased a cheaper brand with low density foam and honestly it didn't do much for me so I want to try a high end pillow.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing as you did and I just have a couple of questions...how much did JC Penny charge for shipping? did you get the matress kit cover for free? or did they just give you the cover that only fits over the sensus pad?
