Thanks for the reply.

I still can't seem to get it to boot. I get BSOD for a split sec and it restarts.

I attached the cpu fan to the motherboard and turned on cpu q-fan control. I set ram to 4-4-4-12 2t, vcore volt to 1.306, mem volt to 2.013v, nb core volt to 1.56, and I left vcore offset volt at auto. Also set to manual oc, unlinked, 1066 fsb, and 800 mem mhz. No luck though. :(

i have the cpu and mem voltages set manually but still no go.

anything else i can try?

also what would be better 800mhz @ 3-3-3-8=2t or 930mhz @ 4-4-4-10-2t?

hiya fellas

Just bought pqi turbo ddr2 800 4x1g 4-4-4-12 and bsod
tried setting timing manually to memory specs ...bsod
tried setting voltages manually to memory specs ...bsod
now original 4 sticks of 512mb wont boot either even after cmos reset
only thing working is one stick 512 ddr2 533 in slot 2
I believe someone here (expert) knows the exact problems or settings here
Bios is 100% up to date (I think 8080)

pototomoto,

So the Thermalright Ultra-120A or Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme fit straight on, unmodified, and clear the northbridge no problem ? FAQs on page 92 suggest that they do

Hey hey fellas, I have a system running fine with these (and forum-recommend timings):

Patriot Dual Channel 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB)
PDC22G6400LLK

I noticed a nice sale on these guys and thought about increasing mem to 4G. I am running XP 32 bit, so I figure only 3G or so will be recognized until I upgrade to XP 64 or Vista 64? Or perhaps I can drop to 667MHz? Anyone have experience with these modules past 2G?

At $45 bucks or so (much better than the original $200), it's hard to ignore.

Have a good one,
Kraylor

Having problems now, about once a day, my computer will just shot off instantly, no warning or error or BSOD, just powers off in an instant. Is there anything other than the PSU that could be causing this? and if it is, how can i tell if my PSU is the problem or not?

Turn it OFF - you want the fan to operate at max RPM. At least for now.

Make sure that the BIOS supports your Quad - I believe the 0608 is stable. Use the following procedure to update the BIOS:
http://forums.anandtech.com/me...ey=y&keyword1=AWDFLASH

Check the memory - boot with a single stick, and test it with ORTHOS for 20 minutes. (When you are able to install Windows, of course).

Let me know what the actual problem is - if you can enter the BIOS and change the settings, it means that the board is responding.

But I believe that the BIOS is too old and does not support the Quad. Again, try 0608.

Good luck!

It is not guaranteed that the memory will run at the rated speed. The rating only means that it was tested to run at 1066MHz, but in certain configurations it is impossible.

The difference is not that great. If you can run it at 800 and 3-3-3-8-2T, the bandwidth will be probably greater than 1066 and 5-5-5-15.

800 at 3-3-3-8 sounds perfect to me.

If you still want to try it at 1066, increase the Northbridge voltage to 1.56V - but make sure you have sufficient cooling (fan at the NB will do).

Bios is 100% up to date (I think 8080)

Install the BIOS v. 0401 - it is the best BIOS for the E6600. But get it somewhat stable before you do it, or you might corrupt the BIOS. Use AWARD flash procedure as "linked" in the above post.

Good luck!

EDIT: Also, try to increase the NB voltage to 1.56V - but with a fan attached to the NB heatsink.

PQI specs 4-4-4-12 2.1v ddr2 800

1. ram timings 4-4-4-12t OK
2. memory voltage 2.1v OK
3. voltage core ??? 1.3V - 1.325V
4. nb voltage core ???? Auto - might have to raise it to 1.56V if unstable.
5. fsb unlinked
6. command rate 2t OK
7. inst there another sli setting or something like sli optimized??? NO
8. ohh yes 723- 825 set frequency below it

First of all - get the system stable, no overclock, with 2 sticks of RAM

Then add the remaining 2 modules.

Only by trying another PSU... It seems like the problem is the PSU.

These might be the SPD timings, not your chipset timings that you have set manually.

Try BIOS 0401 if you are stable even with 1 stick - I could not get the 0608 to run no matter how hard I tried. And the later versions, including the 08...something are apparently worse.

You can use your older RAM for BIOS update, too.

ok look nothing happened with either bios 0401 04 0801, look ot rma from new egg so here is my final question.

I found a stick
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820146560

this stick is also on the qvl (the same exact part) does with mean i can buy 4x1g sticks and put them in and turn it on without problems??

Please decision must be made soon
Thanks for all your replies

LOL.

I wish things were that easy...

There is no guarantee, QVL or not, especially with this motherboard...

If you asked me about my RAM, the HZ series from G.Skill, I would highly recommend it.

But even here I would not be able to guarantee anything. Too many factors, and a very "temperamental" chipset. 650i.

If you think that you've exhausted all the options, replace it with the P35 or X38 chipset MB.

Good luck!

Heres my info, again just to say, my computer keeps shutting off automatically as if the plug was pulled, heres info on my motherboard that could be related from everest, does everything look ok? (I have WoW alt tabbed, while running it)

Everest 2.20 is absolutely useless with the new chipsets/processors.

CPU at 14C, CPU core 2.19V etc.

All these values are incorrect, as you can probably see. At 2.19V, you would be frying your CPU.

Try the SpeedFan for the temps, together with CPU-Z for the frequencies/timings, and CoreTemp for the... core temperatures!

If it's not the Power Supply, it might be the overheating CPU.

Make sure that the core 1/2 temps do not exceed 65C under load.

Good luck!

oh shit CPU-Z says 2.192V core voltage too! what do i do?

edit: im sorry, going into panic mode, you just said i could be frying my CPU, did i accidentally raise some kind of BIOS settings? should i go into BIOS immiedietly and lower core voltage? how the hell could it have gotten so high if this is something that could damage my equiptment???

i think CPU-Z is off too, anyways it doesnt have temps for CPU but it does have a core voltage.

My CPU temps are 65C when i checked in bios after it kicked me off. So i guess it is my CPU overheating...

Any recommendations on a new heatsink/fan? I want to keep it as cool as possible, im using the stock heatsink/fan right now which is probably why the temps are so high... is there anything else i can adjust in the mean time to make my comp more stable?

I also adjusted my fans in my tower and raised them to max setting, hopefully that will tide it over for now until i can order a new heatsink.

whats a good program to monitor CPUvoltage/temp for our MOBO?

your input is appreciated! :)

edit: new pic of CPU-Z.. i coulda sworn i saw the 2.0+ voltage when i checked it for that first time, could anything cause the voltage to fluctuate?

anyways heres a pic of CPU-Z

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/4485/cpuzad7.jpg

edit2: welp i order the arctic freeze 7 recommended by the OC guy, its the cheapest one on the list and sounds fun installing :)

cant wait to get my cpu running reliable and cool.

its been like 3 - 4 weeks since ive had this computer going and it has been slightly "less cool" inside it has never been warm, but the temperature in my house

CPU-Z shows 1.44V, and this is too high. Are you using the stock HSF...?

Set the VCore in BIOS to 1.3V, if unstable, raise it to 1.3125V, but do not exceed 1.35V - that's the rated maximum.

The maximum "safe" load temperature is 65C, and I believe that your CPU is overheating, hence the sudden shutdowns. And don't worry - it is designed to shut down before damage can occur.

If lowering the VCore to 1.3V doesn't help, re-seat your HSF - but clean it with alcohol and apply a new layer of Arctic Silver 5 or equivalent. Here are the instructions:

http://www.arcticsilver.com/in...ute_step2intelas5.html

Good luck!

I have loved this board from day 1. Ran the 401 bios and my e6300 ran all day at 3ghz no sweat. 2 sticks of ram ran at 800 from 667, no problem. Now I added 2 more sticks of ram to go 4 gig. I dropped down to 667, no problem. I updated the bios to the latest bios and bam can't go past 1333 fsb. :( Reload the 0401 bios and now I can't go past 2.8 ghz nor can my 2 sticks of ram run at 800mhz.

This is really crappy, anyone have any way for me to get my old settings back? After flashing each time I removed the cmos jumper and battery as well as setting default bios.

Need a little help guys. I just bought this board and I'm trying to setup raid-0 with 2 WD 74 GB raptor drives. I had these in my last computer running raid-0 just fine. I connected them and went into the bios and told it to enable raid on channels 1 and 2, which is where the raptors are connected. I went into the raid setup by pushing F10 on boot and told it to stripe the two of them. Everything looks good so far from what I can tell.

Then I try to load XP Pro. I boot the CD, press F6 to load the raid driver. It stops and lets me load the driver, but then when it continues it says that it can't find any hard drives on the system. WTF? Anyone have any ideas? The bios sees the drives fine and so does the motherboard raid setup screen. I don't know what else to do. Is there any reason XP wouldn't be recognizing the drives through the new motherboard?
