Right, and you think the only thing that effects drunk driving fatalities is the law? lol

How on earth could you draw that conclusion from what I wrote?

You said that DUI laws had NO effect on fatalities, I countered that they in fact, do. Nowhere did I say that DUI laws were the only thing that affected drunk driving fatalities.

Where did I say they had NO effect on fatalities? Please post the quote. Let me save you the embarrassment of admitting you are either lying or mistaken ...

I'd like to see more in depth statistics before attributing it to laws.

Not that I am for abolishing the DUI laws, but you don't really think that because DUI is against the law that the laws have saved anyone?

Please explain any other rational way to parse that.

I'm sure they do, but I just can't take this seriously ...

I know we didn't give a flip about the law when we were drunken teenagers.

For the last three decades "Impaired Driving" fatalities have been on a pretty steady decline, you can simply say "The laws are working", or realize that there are a number of factors that can attribute to this, including advances in automobile crash safety, increases in designated drivers, or drunk taxis, people/bars/party throwers being more responsible. I'd like to see more in depth statistics before attributing it to laws.

Yea, because being charged with manslaughter isn't going to carry the same weight as a fine

Stop being an obtuse idiot.

A huge percentage of DUI's don't end in manslaughter. They end up being thrown in the drunk tank. You are, in essence, suggesting that we should only worry about the DUI's that end in someone's death. That is idiotic. By faceplanting these people with a huge fine, loss of their car, and loss of their license, we enact just about the harshest penalty we can short of throwing them in prison. Which is appropriate, because given enough time every idiot stupid enough to drive drunk WILL end up killing someone.
