The Trump Tariffs thread

TrumpCo and his army of lackey "lawyers" will attempt to impose tariffs under another statute under another act, wait for it to be challenged, then drag it out in court until it reaches SCOTUS.

Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

The republican lawmakers in Congress knew this was illegal and did nothing.

I mean, when he was impeached, they knew he was guilty and just declined to enforce the law then too.

The trade deficit -- which Trump claimed would be reduced by tariffs -- remained unchanged and deeper provided SCOTUS a lot of cover.

Everyone can also argue that Trump had no fucking idea what he was talking about.

Lets see what the Republicans do. If the tariffs end soon. Will the Republicans make sure of that? The midterms are coming, and they are shitting themselves about getting voted out because all their constituents are paying artificially higher prices for everything.

There are a lot more in terms of legal limits when he has to work through the existing tariff legislation options. National Security is one that he'll try to use, but it will invite more legal action as Trump will try to make everything about "National Security".

One ironic thing about the ruling is that it doesn't address repayment of the monies illegally collected. As a result, there will have to be a whole separate legal furball fought over that (which will probably end up back in the Supreme Court again).

And, I'll bet that the consumers who actually paid the tariffs never see a penny of that money -- it'll go into corporate pockets.

Always pretending Tariffs are paid by other countries, and not the American people.
That lie persists among the rotted orange shitgibbon and its loyal sycophants.

So if I understand this right Congress will have to vote on the 10% global tariff under 122 near the end of July....

....like three months before the midterms.

🙂

Trump hates the Constitution

Trump" - " for not having the courage to do what’s right for our country.”

Those were the exact same words Trump used against Mike Pence when Pence refused Trump's illegal order to not certify Biden's 2020 win on Jan 6th.

Watching this in real time and this man is lying his ass off! No One wanted to "kiss him" I'm certain! He truly doesn't have a grasp of laws, taxes, tariff's and anything economic. He's literally making up everything as he goes and none of it's the truth. He thinks the Supreme Court is influenced by foreign outsiders. "Now that I believe you'd understand!!! It's like listening to a very confused child.

This press conference, it's clear Trump is having cognitive issues. The constant repeating. Sun downing is bad. Sun downing right after lunch is worse..

Lol! ... Foreign countries did not encroach on automakers.

Automakers decided to move manufacturing overseas in the search for profits and stock valuation.

Trump thinks he should be able of personally impose a tax, and then unilaterally decide how that tax should be spent.

That's not how it works.

Just pure gibberish from a dementia patient ...

He does not, can not, understand what the Supreme Court is for, interpreting the Constitution.

To him there are no laws, just "deals".

To him there is no honor, just "loyalty".

To him there is no country, just "suckers".

Get him out. This seems to have put him close to being over the edge. Look out. The country he wants to "destroy" is OURS!

he's not wrong but the foreign influence is the sway putin has over the republican party and the narrow poliical movement is the billionaire 'friends' of the rightwingers on the court.

so, not a lie. kinda the truth, in a way.

it is weird that trump can bomb the shit out of places and kidnap their leaders and it's somehow barely a problem but a tariff is right out.

Well... we have an interesting precedent...
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/va...violated-an-anti-patent-troll-protection-act/

In this one, Valve sued not only the companies, but also the lawyers, so with this precedent, is likely that those lawyers would think twice before trying to pull that again.

And unless Trump steps up on this one, he won't have those lawyers trying to pull something this big without BIG risks

WTF did I just watch? Did he just say his response to this decision will be to RAISE tariffs across the board? Did he just say he’ll renege on all the deals he’s already made with other countries?

If it wasn’t already painfully obvious, we’re in mad king territory. Who’s still onboard with this shit show?

Yup everything he rambled about was about everything he’s done. The party of hypocrisy

now we get to see how serious SCOTUS is! My hopes are not high with these clowns, though.

Also it says everything you need to know about Trump that he thinks that the job of justices is to be 'loyal' to him.
