Trump is in the process of finding out where that event horizon is and his recklessly fucking around with that is quickly meeting up with the finding out part of the equation.

Finding peanut oil has been weirdly difficult lately. I mean any. Then, next thing I know Costco has it in a 3 gallon quantity. I could not use that amount in what's left of my lifetime.

I use canola oil in my electric chainsaws as chain oil. Obviously environmentally a better choice than stuff made from crude and I grow vegetables. I had just about run out and had canola oil on my shopping list, planned to hit local supermarket but first was at Costco and the idea hit me to see if they had any. I was surprised to see a 5 quart bottle selling for 10 bucks and picked it up. I don't know if I would ever cook with it, I use a lot of olive oil (EV) and a little avocado oil for that.

Olive oil has been largely impacted by crop issues due to drought and other weather issues in Spain. That’s been a couple of years now. Sure there are inflationary pressures too but it’s like coffee, there’s several factors.

I was at Costco yesterday and the coffee I always buy was at all time high price, $26 for a 3lb bag of San Francisco Bay Organic beans. I figured Trump tariffs.

I splurged yesterday and bought the $$$ stuff at Costco: 2 liters of Italian EVOO, cold pressed: $29.99. I noticed that the stuff I got before had developed a foggy look and there was a sediment at the bottom, also EVOO cold pressed, also Kirkland but from somewhere in a list of European nations totaling about 15-20 countries. Way cheaper at about $16, but I figured get the better oil, all Italian.

Careful with that. If you don't regularly use the saw, it'll tack up, and you could lose something like the oil pump. I use canola in my regular use saws, but the saws I use less frequently, I use a water based lubricant.

What kind of water based lubricant? I did a tough job over the weekend, chopping down most of the stump of a juniper tree in front of the house. By the time I was done (took maybe 45 minutes), the saw was leaking oil, a lot. Don't know why. I just wiped it off and figured I have a problem. It's a Greenworks, and unlike my McCullough electric chainsaw it doesn't have a button to push to push oil to the chain. Here's picture of the stump after the work. It was chopped vertically initially, then horizontally:

It's about $20/G at places like homedepot. You can add water to it to stretch it out a bit further. Nothing ridiculous, but you can get a couple "free" tanks of bar oil per gallon if you add extra water. I actually have some of this product in concentrate form where you add your own water to make the mix, but I haven't made any yet.

Hard to tell what's going on with that stump, especially since you made rip and cross cuts, but I'm not seeing any nice chips. Make sure your chain is sharp. It's especially important with an electric saw.

I got the Greenworks in June 2023 and didn't use it for around 2 years! I figured how dull can the chain be already?? I'm still on the original chain on the McCullough and it doesn't seem very dull! I've used that a ton. Almost all on my two old plum trees. I have meant to try to sharpen the chain, but didn't know how or what to get (i.e. what file). I watched a guy sharpen his chain about 2 weeks ago when the city cut down the ratty old tree in front of my house! I bought a couple replacement chains for the McCullough a few years ago but didn't get around to replacing the old chain, mostly because the old chain was still doing the job, amazingly enough.

The Greenworks over the weekend wasn't showing any oil at all on chain or the plate the chain rides on, but I checked the oil level lots of times and it was low a bunch and I refilled the chamber, so it was obviously being used by the chain but I couldn't see it. Then at the end I saw a fare amount of oil leaking.

If you get the bar oil, make sure you shake it. I'm not sure it says to on the container, but it does separate.

For files, it depends on what chain you have. It's based on chain pitch. From smallest to largest...

1/4" - Not sure without looking it up. I don't have any that small
.325 nano - spec says 5/32" for a file. I prefer the slightly larger 4.5mm=11/64"
3/8" low profile - 5/32" I suspect this is the chain on your saw, but you should verify in the manual
.325 - 3/16"
3/8" - most chains spec 7/32" Stihl specs 13/64", and that's what I prefer for all 3/8" chain. It's a little smaller, gives more latitude for tuning the filing
.404 - Don't know without looking it up. This is usually on huge saws with huge west coast bars. Not something the average person will use.

Yeah it peaked out in February but we've seen sustained high prices since August. Tariffs are not the only thing that impact the price but they sure are the only thing that is in Trump's personal control to influence. I would simply not tariff products that we don't produce because I am not a moron.

Yea, I have that one also, and not having manual control concerns me. Seems to be a bit light on delivery.

I was ignorant of NB's politics until this portion of this thread. I've been wearing NB almost exclusively for ~20 years, I guess. Reason is they make 4E, have been very consistent in sizing, they almost inevitably fit me perfectly from day 1 and have been holding up, i.e. not falling apart. Other shoes, my experience is that they don't fit from the get-go. I have bought a lot of 4E NB without trying on, i.e. online and had very close to no problems.

Now, I was looking for golf shoes and for a while NB didn't make any and I found alternative (Footjoy, weird but playable). Found NB golf shoes since then, they appear now to have abandoned leather golf shoes, OK by me. Have only played one round since pandemic started, however am looking to get back to it.

I was looking for hiking shoes 2-3 years ago and a poster in these forums hipped me to Skechers making wide shoes and I loaded up on a bunch on sale, so am set for hiking shoes! The rep is they aren't very tough but so far I'm OK. Have put around 2500 miles on pair one and seems OK, even using the original insoles.
