The Trump Tariffs thread

I can see the number of posts and views on this long-running topic.

I will pronounce my own view under the current national news circumstances.

The Supreme Court should reject Trump's ability to impose tariffs. Again, just one argument of "taxation without representation" but what Trump has done has never been permitted under the Law.

The argument that reversing the tariffs will cost an enormous sum is no excuse. The American people who elected this Criminal did it to themselves and to ourselves. The damage is damage done by Trump. Trump owns it.

Reverse the tariffs. We cannot compromise the Law and principle just because Trump says to do so is costly. He's the one who caused this to happen. He can own it.

People of succeeding generations should learn from history. History has already started to rhyme, without exactly repeating itself. Everything that has happened since the election of the Criminal has been a disaster. How can someone argue otherwise? The economy is not doing well. Millions of American citizens have been hurt. Venezuelans have been killed outright without due process of Law. The "Shutdown" has cost us and the economy. Look at the people who've had SNAP interrupted and those facing unacceptable health insurance premiums. If you want an anecdotal argument in addition to the obvious and publicly factual, consider that I have a house that is paid for, I run my life in the "black", have a regular and dependable retirement income. But all of this hurts me nevertheless, as I have to see it in the news. Who, who is not a sociopath and narcissist, is not hurt by all the suffering since January? Who is so ignorant or stupid or meanspirited that they cannot see the Injury to America? How could we possibly be "Great Again"? With Nick Fuentes, or Steve Bannon, or Donald Trump -- Kristi Noem and Pete Hegseth?

There is no "Greatness" with any of them nor any of what they have done.

Hurt, Hurt, Hurt! That is all the Criminal has done. He has destroyed the legacy we had with the White House East Wing -- just as minor transgression in the face of everything else. Hurt the civil service. Hurt people on SNAP. Hurt the communities where National Guard has been deployed, not needed and particularly not wanted. And how is it that ANY American presidency would ever have demonized a mythical organization opposed to Fascism? The easy and careless use of the name "ANTIFA" in the President's rants of accusation is quite telling. He's saying that Fascism is good!

This isn't over. It will end badly if the opposition cannot take back the House in 2026, if the Supremes rule contrary to the dictates of their responsibility as objective Jurists, and the Dems need to take back the Senate. After that, if Trump defies Congress -- say -- in a successful impeachment -- what recourse do we have but for an intervention by the military?

Collect Michelob bottles, gasoline and rags. They may eventually become needed and useful. My view as stated here is beyond compromise. It is a unique moral issue in the matter of Secular Morality. You can only ask how close we are to civil war.

Just getting clobbered in the polls and an election over cost of living and going with straight up denial on cost of living concerns is fantastic. I don't think you could find a single solitary person on the street who would say that grocery prices are down.

Yes yes prices are down..

MAGA say we are having TDS

Oh look numbnuts decided to relax food tariffs because the GOP just got their face ripped off.

Umm nevermind..

But what about rice?? I must have my Basmati Rice!

And now the arsonist will want credit for putting out the fire. I thought that other countries pay the tariffs!

Will the prices go down? They never do.

Hard to believe he went broke running a casino, right?

does this mean the 2000.00 tariff checks aren't coming? lol

Why would he drop those tariffs if they are working and prices are dropping? Could a Trump supporter explain the logic please?

Now our national security will be in danger! lol

For months Trump double taxed Americans at the grocery store while his base cheered it on. I don't think MAGA settled on a talking point yet to explain this.

I use basmati, only if I have to fry the rice.

For steamed rice to go with curries, the preferred option is Jasmine rice

Right wing rhetoric has been mirroring Trump's increasingly longer trips down Senility Avenue, not to mention the tariff taxes he's levying on his own supporters, totally ignoring the damage he's causing to the party's unitary hold on the gov't. He is literally stubbornly stuck on stupid while holding the party hostage to his maniacal episodic bouts of rants and rage and revenge against his real and imagined enemies. He's a loose canon on deck with a lit fuse and nobody under his rule is brave (stupid?) enough to grab him by the muzzle and take the hit.

Hopefully he turns it to 17 (not 11) that people remember..

But sadly just like FDR and the new deal.. newer generations forgot and rebelled!

They still had 48 years though!

Agreed. Trump can do these walk-backs all he wants but the damage is already done. People have him and his party of crooks pegged as the party and especially their Dictator-in-Chief who simply doesn't care about their party policy induced rising costs of the food and medical care for working class America. Trump wouldn't tuck tail on his declared "powerful weapon of choice" if he could avoid it and by now everyone's wise to it except his dumbed down MAGAt base that entirely lives in a hoax FOX based world.

How are they being held hostage when they support him and his policies no matter what?

Right. Could we get a trumper here to explain it

We were told the tariffs will lower the prices but now he is saying removing the tariffs will lower the prices

Gahhh. You trumpers will put anything in your mouth
