I mean, other than the money, of course. He's going to end up like A-Rod....putting up All-Star numbers and still finishing in last place every year. $5 says he's fishing for a new contract elsewhere after two years in Detroit.

All good and well (I'm from MI) but one bigass deal isn't going to save your team. Many young (cheap) prospects, carefully developed, will. If you put all your money/eggs in one basket, you can't get any other decent players and you're the Rangers. :p

Its got to be all about the $$$. OF course it really hurts his chances of big sponsorships, bacause his team will not be able to back up his performances.

$10 million a year for 4 years. I could deal with it. He'll get some local sponsorships.
I really don't recall he being a national spokesman for anything.

Well, since the 2 other contenders last year basically dismantled their teams, I feel good about this year. We spent some $$, got some players, and have a very strong pitching rotation, if they stay healthy. The Tigers could very well be our toughest competetion. (Not the Twinks)

Because Scott Boras doesn't care about anything but money, and he convinces his clients thats all that is important.

He is probably thinking that he his body is going to give out within 4 years time. At which point he will be a very well paid DH.

He got his WS ring already. We live in a capitalist society, why should he NOT go for the money? You know you would do the same in his place.

I don't think the Tigers will do too much better than .500 this year, but they certainly will get me to go out the ballpark which is something I haven't done since it was Tiger Stadium.

They have a good young pitching core, decent hitting and fielding team, and Tram gets kudos for keeping a team together that was trying in September even though it had nothing to play for.

woot.

I'm curious what the Tigers are thinking paying the guy that much. He is still a top catcher and brings a lot to the table right now, but statistically he is getting to the age where most catchers start to rapidly decline.
There's a chance he could be the exception to that rule but that is still a BIG contract.

Maybe they'll eventually shift him to 2B. There's also the DH. However, $10 million is overpaying a DH with his bat.

Funny thing is that so much of the Tigers contracts are falling off from their salary cap totals that their total salaries are still very small.

I think 50-60 mil.(Yankees is 138 mil.)

They could still get Maddox if he'd give them the time of day.
