Except a kid who wasn't even where the lawn darts playing kids were got killed.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawn_darts

From the article:
Michelle's father, David, began a crusade to get lawn darts banned, claiming that there was no way to keep children from getting their hands on lawn darts short of a full ban.

Good work there Dave, No way to keep kids from getting their hands on lawn darts, but high capacity assault rifles are still okay.

if i wanted to buy an original game of lawn darts with the actual darts, where could i get it?

Little chance. Ebay can't sell them and I've never seen them in any yard sales or Craig's List ads. They're technically illegal to sell anywhere in the USA including garage sales and Craig's List. A CL listing would get nuked pretty quickly. You might find a set in a yard sale if you got REALLY REALLY lucky, anyone that knew they were illegal would probably buy them rather than reporting them. I sure as hell would. But you probably have the same chance of finding a '65 Shelby Mustang in the garage of a little old lady who doesn't know it's there.

I've still got an original set of Jarts that is pretty beat up, but they work okay. I've been looking for a good condition replacement set for at least a decade and not had any luck.

So are these things basically small throwing spears with a different name? That's why they're banned?

I think it's stupid that lawn darts are banned - or anything for that matter. There are legal things you can buy that are much more dangerous, like knives, or guns, or pretty much any power tool. Laws to protect people form themselves are retarded, and often based on political BS and not logic. It's up to people to be more careful.

When I was a kid me and a friend made our own lawn darts, well we did not really know about the official ones or anything, we just thought it was fun to throw them and have them land in the lawn. They were mostly just pieces of wood carved with an axe and made so the pointy side is heavier and we'd just throw them around the yard for fun. Typically throw them as high up as we could to see how deep we can get them to embed, then keep refining the design. Suppose if one wanted to play the game they could just make their own.

Many families had a set of Jarts when I grew up. They were fun. Even got to watch Jimmy, the across-the-street-neighbor, throw 3 up the air at once. Didn't even manage to get hit once.....although one went through the roof of his dad's newish car and the other two punctured the roof of his house.

Damn we had fun back then.....Good times!

I guess you could look at it that way. Basically the point was heavy so it would always point down and stick in the ground. You generally throw them underhand like a horseshoe and try to land them in a ring for points.

That one made me laugh.

I hereby suggest that Tide Pods are made available free to anyone that wants to eat them. Let the idiots die and the problem solves itself. You can't fix stupid, so the best outcome is if it kills itself in ways that are amusing to the rest of us.
