The Thing (2011) - Trailer

The best ideas Hollywood has recently is to ruin good movies. The only thing horror in that trailer is the chick`s acting.

I was expecting a different Thing.

Love the original. The remake (edit: prequel) probably won't even compare, but I may see it anyway if it doesn't totally suck. Won't be the same without Kurt Russell though. 🙁

Just makes me want to rewatch the last one, which is quite fantastic and really not dated at all.

Another one? Haven't they remade this a few times already?

On the plus side, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in it.

No. The original came out in 1951 and the only remake came out in 1982.

This is the prequel, that explores the initial discovery of the alien by the Swedes Norwegian researchers who are shown in the remake. (I haven't seen the original in ages, they might be shown in that one, too.)

I'm looking forward to this movie. 🙂

This isn't a remake, I believe this is a prequel. This is what happens to the Norwegian(i think) team prior to hitting the American camp when the dog ran over at the beginning of the original.

Okay, I take back my remark about the replacement of the protagonist for PC reasons. Should have read the whole thread.

But, I will say that many of the scenes were eerily similar to the 82 version.

Considering that it takes place at a research station in Antarctica (how different can those look? haha), and that numerous scenes in the 82 film were filmed either at the Norwegian station, or showed videos of the Norwegians, that's to be expected. I loved that they lifted Ennio Morricone's music at the end of the trailer, as the score for the 82 movie is superb.
