it's been very silent in our forum for the last weeks, is everybody so concentrated on the stats that they don't talk anymore?

I've been really busy lately, even though everything I do requires a computer...

I would post but my posts would get deleted for serial posting...

You can put them in one. 🙂

I too have been busy. Not spending anything near my normal amount of time on here, with school, wor,, and finals. But the end is in sight, and hopefully I'll get a break--at least for a little bit.

Final exams... and work too. Final finished a new revision for my database software. Uploaded it yesterday. Passed school.

But you're done FMC. Congrats! Ignore away (like the actual ignoring I have been doing aparently...)

so you work with databases? tell me how you really feel about statistics...

perhaps you have not had enough time yet...

is this the same thread from the old forums, or a new one? I thought it had more pages :C

Ugh... I was trying to find this thread, but I apparently was looking in the wrong column. Instead of searching for the name of the thread, I should have been looking at the "replies". 🙂

Say what? Statistics are statistics. Just a number.

This thread has been vaguely quiet during the F@H race... I BBQ'd the other day.

heh...

statistics are just numbers like politicians are just carbon based 'life' forms...

My turkey is thawing, will start soaking it in 'special sauce' tomorrow night then it goes in the smoker early Christmas morning for dinner later in the day. mmmmmm...

My database work pertains to me putting up the backbone. If they want a feature, they email, give me a few days, and I send them the dev-beta update. Statistics mean nothing to my job. I'm through with statistical averages.

I'm thinking about smoking some ribs when I return to San Diego. Bust out the terra cotta smoker and smoke some nice racks.

mmmmm.... ribs.... mmmmmmm....

I'm the DBA for a large public library system.
Public means many things, one of which is that the people I work for (at the top) are political appointees. I've had to become adept at fielding their requests for data - it's amazing what they "need" sometimes.

What I enjoy is maintaining databases, digging around for obscure information and solving problems. For fun I once created a query that produces the top items of different media (books, dvd's, cd's) that our 1.3 million patrons are putting on "hold". It's very useful to me, plus it's an interesting way of seeing what's really popular at any given moment.

Now, back to BBQ talk...
My turkey is just about thawed, I have 2 gallons of apple juice to soak it in and the smoker is sitting there ready for me to get started any time. I hope this turns out like I want, but just in case it doesn't I also have a ham.

My database is one for auditing department computers and related. It constantly needs auditing itself, so my time right now is fixing everything that everyone entered wrong.

Back to BBQ.

I'm thinking about sitting the ribs in a nice rub, smoking, basting sauce partway through, then finishing up after ~10 hours on the grill to glaze the remainder of the sauce on. Then serving with potato salad, slaw, and a nice Jack Daniels on the rocks.

Hmmm... now to decide on the sauce to make.
