Its Sunday morning - cleaning time: opening all comps, removing the dust inside, vacuuming the computer room, removing all temporary files and not-any-more needed logs, uninstalling unused programs (well, that is a very small task ... ;) ), defragging HDD, checking the antivirus and firewalls, cleaning of the air filters ... 6 - 8 hours of work. And all that once a month just becuase posting in a thread i ignore?

DC is fun - mostly. And today I fdeel grumpy. I just want to stay in bed ... ;) :D

I never dust my computers, rarely change the liquid coolant, and never defrag. Antivirus is hoped that it is up to date because it never errors, and the firewall is at the router level. The other day, I knocked into my computer and a tube to the radiator popped off and spilled all the coolant onto my motherboard. Computer works like a charm (dried off) @ 3.8GHz still.

Another day of no DC... electricity bills.

And to add to it, as a SysAdmin at an organization, you would think I could find people's email addresses in our system. NOPE. :S

The fluorescent fixture in my kitchen finally succumbed to gravity. It's been so humd and damp lately that the acoustic tile has finally given way (either that, or my shoddy installation techniques...). I must go to the 'Home Improvement Warehouse' and buy new tile as the fluorescent fixture dangling from the wire is not conducive to cooking activities.

Well, you may not have cats ... those wonderfull critters create and move an unproportionallyt large amout of hair and dust - thus I see more problems when I do not maintain my comps ... Just for fun I left one of my less powerful rigs undusted for 9 months, and - since it was a Pentium - it ran only at 50% of the speed due to heat problem. When dust was removed - and no other action - it ran 100% again.
The other stuff (removing files, defraggning etc) is done by a script and it takes usually less than 2 minutes to run ... almost no work for me.
I think you had some very large amount of luck .. when that happened to me the mobo was dead - even after drying and although I switched of the AC within 3 seconds ... :disgust:

Oh  we are off topic.

Back to ignoring ... ;)

We have dogs. 3 of them. Lots of dog hair. And it takes HOURS to defrag 8TB of data... and I don't think I have enough free space to do it.

Wait... I must ignore what I say here.

Dogs do not have such fine underfur as cats. The stuff gets stuck in fans, filters, heatsinks, everywhere air moves ... :(
But thge animals are a lot of fun ...

... and I'll not igore them, in contrast to this thread. ;)

We have two dogs, and while they have hair, they seldom venture into my computer area, so hair isn't a problem. Ambient room-temperature is, as my computer area is in the attic, unlike my old abode, where I was in the basement. I suppose you could say I have moved up.

Please feel free to ignore this some more....

I have forgotten that.
It is - kind of - hard to ignore the flag! ;)

I quit the

Went on to something stronger? Or quit everything? (just wondering).

Ahhh, the official flag. hehe. Speaking of which, has our lady of the north put that on our fort yet?

I did move on. To gin, vodka, other alcohols that mix well with the prior two in any combination, tequila, and some wine.

And no... it is not on our fort yet.

*sigh* We have 3 cats (one is long haired), 2 dogs, and hairballs the size of cattle tumbling thru our house! As for a flag, I'll get working on it!
