Fat kills. (Coke too) The heart has only so many beats in it - a 350 LB man has a resting heart rate of 120 he will live half as long as a man with 60 BPM. 40 yrs old vs 80.

Better stop exercising, if I'm just wasting heartbeats:p

Exercise lowers your resting heart rate, so despite the elevated rate during exercise, the total net effect is less heartbeats per year or whatever.

Back in my playing days my heart rate was 58.

I am about 47 and weigh about 350 or so. I take some good drugs for blood preasure, diabetes, sugar reduers, cholesterol. Hmm. . . .
I guess I resemble that remark.

On the other hand, I dont smoke or drink alchohol or even take cough medicine with alcohol in it or even drink caffinated drinks or coffee or tea.

No offense, but it says a lot about the state of your health that you need all those prescription meds. You would feel a lot better, both mentally and physically, if you lost weight.

You sound like a friend of mine - he says he's 2 foot too short for his weight.

Interesting, but wrong, assumptions!

I thiink you're joking but take a single day

normal fatty has a resting heart rate of 95 = 136,800 beats per day

Fit person has a resting heart rate of 55 = 23 hours = 75,900 + 1 hour at 155 while running = 9300 = 85,200 beats per day.

Just in that day the slob lost over 30% of his heart beats and thus life compared to fit person.

Then there are other benefits of being in shape which also prolong life - relieves anxiety... better immune system... ..better cholestorol handleing..etcetcetc

You'll be lucky to make 55. I've never seen a 350lb 55 yr old. One died in my arms at 50 while towing my truck out of river.

When did this become P&N&Health Issues? :p

As long as we're playing cardiovascular limbo:

HR (resting): 55~60
HR (asleep): ~30
BP: 98/58

:p

Of course I'm joking - but the reality is that exercise can also improve the condition of your heart, and most likely (barring rather unfortunately common genetic factors) not 'save you heartbeats' but give you a hear that will probably last for more heartbeats anyway. Thus allowing cancer to kill you instead of heart disease;)

My Drs a bit different - I'm gonna ask him next time I see him where he gets this theory about being born with a predetermined # of beats. Makes sense though if you think about mortality of differenct body types and fitness level. Look at Jack lalane. 90 something and could prolly still kick most peoples arse around the track in here.

Merc- Anything can happen in P&N.. Look you posted in here:p Nice HR BTW.

Last time I was at the dentist they called EMS because I dropped to 40 with anesthesia they gave me.. Freaked him out - I told him that's normal - My resting is about 50-55 normally. If I had some scotch it goes about 65 and I don't sleep so well.

Yeah, I've been there:

- getting my wisdom teeth out and having the anesthesiologist override the machine because it wouldn't stop going on alert
- being woken up in the middle of a nap by my fiancée demonstrating my nearly-dead heart rate to anyone nearby ( :p )
- having a nasty reaction to an inoculation, passing out, and convincing three nurses to put down the stretcher, I'm fine, really ... no, I don't need a doctor ... yes, that's low, but I'm obviously not dead, right?

If there was ever an Olympic sport for "Vital Signs Limbo" I'd be on the podium for sure.

when i has getting my SIX( no, not a typo, and i'm not kidding. some kind of weird genetic thing i guess) wisdom teeth out at once they couldn't keep my hear rate down. after the first tooth came out my oral surgen woke me up and sent me off to the hospital to get an EKG to make sure i wasn't dying or something. after getting what i guess was a permission slip from a cardioligist i got them taken out in the hosptital with a real anastheoligist(not a chance in hell i spelt that right) watching over me.

I had hit 310 lbs 4 1/2 months ago and size 46 pants.

I met Debi and now comfortably fitting in size 40 pants and could probably wear size 38's.
