I've thought about that a lot, too. The cell phone got the rangers after the guy but didn't help me get away from him. I did that by staying cool, keeping control of the car, and taking off when I finally had the chance.

I figure I probably would have done the same, and then when I pulled away from him, I'd have gunned it and driven the rest of the park at around 65 mph. That place is usually crawling with rangers looking to pull in some cash with speeding tickets (locals know to only go the speed limit, but out-of-towners are pulled over left and right during the busy season). I'd certainly have been pulled over, and likely would have put enough distance between us that they'd have had a chance to nail him once I shared my story with the cop. There's only one entrance to the park, so there's no easy getaway.

Then again, I might have reacted differently had I not had the cellphone, and the good people of Erie, PA would have read a newspaper article about the crazy guy who murdered an innocent motorist on the penninsula. I like to think of myself as pretty good in a crisis, though, so I think the former would have been the case.
 
1. Wow - that is really amazing in a WTF kind of way.

2. State Farm is damn good with auto insurance. I highly recommend them.

3. Good job on skipping the cliff notes. Lazy bastages missed a hell of story - their loss.
