Actually, it was my wife's car

Surprisingly, it's not that bad considering the pummelling it took. I'd never recommend a Malibu to anyone, but I sure feel better about its crash-worthiness.

A view from the rear. The chips in the paint were actually there before. The only visible damage from the outside are the scuffs on the bumper (aside from the bungee cord now necessary to keep the trunk closed).

Looking down. The black weather stripping used to line up over the edge of the bumper...the panel has been pushed in a couple of inches.

A view from underneath. You should not be able to see any daylight...
There is frame damage on the driver's side, the front rotors are likely warped, and the transmission's been shifting rough since it happened. It's still driveable, though. I was able to safely make the two-hour drive back to Pittsburgh.
The initial estimate was for just over $2k for the bumper, shock absorbers, and rear body panel, but he missed the frame damage. I've got a State Farm adjuster involved now to look at the brakes and transmission (the collision shop can only bill for visible damage; State Farm has to OK the other repairs). I should know the full extent tomorrow.
