It would have been even funnier if he had hit the camera with his 'light saber.'

No the fatass filmed himself. The kids arent responsible for anything. They took said video tape, that the fatass DIDNT OWN, and uploaded it to the internet.
A bored game developer(iirc) then downloaded the footage, added sound effects and some special effects. The result was the "star wars kid video".
No one made a dime off this. And its not defamation of character.

I must be out of the loop here, what was the video?

I really don't understand why the kid is so "traumatized." Obviously, it's an age and maturity thing.
If I videotaped myself doing a light saber thing...or heaven forbid, a "Danceman" type routine and it got all over Teh Intarweb and i got poked fun at, I'd say:
"Yeah, but I'm all over Teh Intarweb! Your Mom is the only one that looks at videos of you!"
Or something else cool and retalitory like that there. 😀

Well he might be entitled to some compensation for this, I don't know. Someone should have copyrighted or trademarked this whole Star Wars Kid thing though. You could probably make a fortune in tshirt sales etc.....🙂

Let?s see here, the kids involved filmed this person without his knowledge, and then proceeded to edit said footage and post it on the internet with the direct intent to embarrass this individual. They are more then responsible for any defamation of character and resulting psychological trauma this kid endured. As well the kid in the video is owed fair compensation for services rendered for his contributions to the video. I have no doubt this young man suffered torture of the utmost magnitude for extended periods of time from his peers as a result of the offending parties? actions.

Yeah, but the kid DID own the COPYRIGHT to that video. The other kids had no right to upload it to the Internet regardless of who owned the recording media.

It doesn't matter if anyone made a dime off it. The kids who uploaded it CLEARLY had malicious intent and knew that it would be embarrassing to the kid. The kid obviously suffered quite a bit from the incidient if he finished the school year in a psychiatric hospital. I don't think the kid deserves $250,000, but the kids who put the video on the Internet deserve to get their asses kicked. Sure the kid might be famous now, but he's famous because people are LAUGHING AT HIM.

What copyright? I don't see anywhere that SWK copyrighted that movie. And like said previously, if you are going to do something that could be embarrassing to yourself, by God, DON'T FILM IT AND LEAVE IT!
Sheesh, if he lost some weight, no one would even recognize him, and he would feel much better with his new iBook. Anyone want to film me doing something stupid? I could use a new computer.

If that kid had any sense he would be living up the fame and cashing in on it....he could make more than $250,000 probably!...T Shirts, Public Appearances...star wars conventions, maybe even a walk on part in a star wars movie...performing arts colleges 😉

yep.
Had you read some of the other articles, you'd know that he was working on a school project and that he was doing the sabre imitations in an attempt to give the actors an idea of what he wanted.Originally posted by: SagaLore
The school should sue the kid for using school equipment to film his "skills".
