the SNES sure had some great RPGs

Played all three. The only game I really want to play is FF7. Just have to find someone that has it... I liked Chrono Trigger the most out of all the true RPGs for SNES (Zelda doesn't count).

just finished FF 3 (aka 6). what a game! recently also finished chrono trigger and secret of mana. i can't believe i had missed out on so many good games. i'm actually kind of surprised that i find them so enjoyable after years of high quality PC game graphics. i didn't seem to mind the crappy graphics one bit.

these games now rank among my all time favorites

and FF2/4 is even better.

FF3/6 was messed up because anyone could be anything, basically. The inventor prince guy was my primary caster... once you get ultima and can cast it twice a round for 1 mana point it really doesn't matter who is doing what.
I remember my power team... Terra, Celes, Locke, and Sabin. 9999/999 + esper stat boosts. 🙂 Spent a hell of a lot of time in the Coliseum, too, until I just got lazy and hacked my saves.

I hated FF6, but I agree with your premise that SNES was an awsome system for RPG's.

Final Fantasy 4, Breath of Fire 1+2, Chrono Trigger, and Mario RPG rocked my world.

Chrono Trigger was one of the best games on any system period.

I second that... I loved that game. The SNES had an amazingly high number of awesome RPG's. I missed out on a lot of them, and have been going back trying to collect them now 😉

FF2 for the SNES is one of my all time favorite games. I love that one. I also really enjoyed the SNES Zelda one, Link to the Past (?). I even caught myself playing that about 9 months ago. I don't think FF Mystic Quest was a bad game, it just wasn't as difficult nor involved. It was what it was.

SNES had a pretty awesome selction of games. I think in some ways games now are not as good because for the most part they are all eye candy. The best RPGs I ever played were the Dragon Warrior series on the NES and the graphics. .. are NES graphics. However the gameplay is just way too awesome.

Yes. Best system ever... nothing else even comes close.
Best lineup or RPGs, as well as an amazing list of games from just about every other genre, especially platformers. (Yoshi's Island >*)

I love those old style RPG games. THey were all about story, charector and gameplay. Now it seems like the games are More about graphics and cut scenes.

I did not enjoy FF7-9. It just seemed like they decided to do away with gameplay and consatrate on makeing the spell effects pretty. blah.

I played FF6 for years on the SNES. i had almost all the charectors maxed. Then my SNES died. I was able to sale the game for like $60 on ebay. So i went out and bought it for the playstation. heh

Oh Breath of fire series was great also. i had 1-4 =)

if you have a PS2, you should check out La Pucelle and Disgaea. they're similar strategy games.

Best RPG for the Genesis is Phantasy Star II. PSIV comes 2nd IMO. I enjoyed all the FF and Actraiser on the SNES. I was impressed with the music the SNES is capable of.
