Those are boiled silkworm pupae.

3 weird things that made me ill were bo hoc (liquefied & fermented road kill, salted) that I had in a small hill tribe in Central Vietnam, chili grasshoppers in Mexico (terrible stomach ache, and diarrheal), and fresh live sea urchin in a small Native West Coast tribe in BC Canada (vomit in roughly 5~10 second after I had it).

Can you guys identify this: The most disgusting thing ever!

Are you sure they weren't just dicking around with you? D:

I have tried roasted grasshoppers before. They area rather tasty and "nutty" as indicated in the article.

... Although a lot of people don't think of them that way shrimp, crabs, lobsters, and a lot of seafood they eat are insects. The first Maine residents even considered lobsters trash food, the kind of thing you eat when you don't have anything else.
You know, crustaceans and insects aren't quite the same...right?

Close enough for the sake of this discussion. Exoskeleton, antennae, long pointed legs, all that fun stuff, and all are members of Arthropoda.

The point is, most Americans eat crustaceans already (crab, lobster, shrimp, etc). Not many Americans eat insects...and most feel a bit queasy at the thought of it.

I have had honey pot ants & weaver ants eggs, and weaver ants eggs is better however it is not that tasty.

Out of the dozen or so nasty insects that I have tried; the tastiest insect has to be silkworm pupae (fried is much better than boiled), but IMHO it is at the very bottom of my things to eat list.

There are nastier things that I have tried at the Thailand bugs market were the giant waterbugs.

Holy fuck. *gag*
