I guess I'm the only one who's thinking "F that, I'm never willingly going to put an insect in my mouth. Fucking disgusting"

Me too. I eat shrimp sometimes but if I stop to think about it, it creeps me out a little.

This.
Oysters are friggen nastay too... especially the raw ones.
It's really no different than sticking a slimey slug in your mouth.

The idea of grasshoppers seems gross though. I don't see much meat in them, just juicy guts.

How about instead of asking me to eat disgusting insects, people just stop having 8 kids?...

Insects and shrimps aren't really all that different if you think about it.

A lot of us eat bugs already and don't even realize it. First of all, there are tons of bugs ground up into things like ketchup and apple sauce. Secondly, there are companies in the US that provide ground up meal worms as a protein supplement which go into some mainstream products and only get listed in the ingredient list as "protein supplement".

Would be good to know for a survival situation, but other than that probably not for me. There are other ways to get protein besides meat and insects anyway.

I know in Thailand and Indonesia, spiders are also routinely consumed.

Yeah, honey pot ants. Ate them in South Africa.
I have had honey pot ants & weaver ants eggs, and weaver ants eggs is better however it is not that tasty.

Out of the dozen or so nasty insects that I have tried; the tastiest insect has to be silkworm pupae (fried is much better than boiled), but IMHO it is at the very bottom of my things to eat list.

There are nastier things that I have tried at the Thailand bugs market were the giant waterbugs.

I don't think I'd much care for the outsides of bugs. When I get shrimp, it's just the usual meaty insides and the usual bit of the tail. No antennae, no legs, no exoskeleton.

But, feed a bunch of termites into a big blender, extrude out some hot dog things, and I probably wouldn't mind at all. (Assuming they taste decent......hmm, idea. With termites, you could have them hickory-smoked and hickory-fed.:D)

That huge brown slug thing eminds me of "Enemy Mine". Had nightmares about that as a kid, and turned me off bugs forever...

I've never tried any prepared insects, but I'd be willing to try something... boiled or fried... once..

... Although a lot of people don't think of them that way shrimp, crabs, lobsters, and a lot of seafood they eat are insects. The first Maine residents even considered lobsters trash food, the kind of thing you eat when you don't have anything else.
You know, crustaceans and insects aren't quite the same...right?
