I'm quite sure someone could fly around in a helicopter about halfway between DC and Philly for an hour at 3am and not get noticed.

The military would have advanced technology to make nighttime flying safer (hence a ground-hugging flight), decreased noise generation, and they would have full knowledge of all the Pakistan ground-based radars (which btw would be pointed at India instead of Afghanistan).

how close to a military base? Like on the same street?

1000 yards according to here: http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/0...de-just-yards-from-pakistan-military-academy/

Power was out in area just before the raid, and it came back on 15 minutes after it was over.
Not only that, but the military was out and moving around. Probably trying to figure out what the heck was going on. Still sounds to me like they had no idea about the raid:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2011-05-02-pakistan-abbottabad-resident_n.htm

"Initially it was very hard for my family to believe," Mohammad said of the raid, which he said happened about 1:30 a.m. "My younger brother and cousin living there witnessed some unusual troop movement, but then again Abbottabad has three Army training centers and a military academy so they thought maybe a chief of staff is visiting."
He said the power in town went out a couple of hours before the raid, which was unusual as was the way in which unidentified troops were hustling about prior to the raid. The power was restored 15 minutes after the raid.

fight for 40 minutes and then leave without pakistani authorities know anything at all

Do you honestly believe there was a sustained gunfire fight for 40 minutes? I'm quite sure the SEALS landed and executed all the primary targets within a couple minutes. They would have known where all the primary targets were within the compound before arriving, and it seems there were only 4 adult males.

So a couple minute execution, and 30+ minutes of intelligence gathering probably was not noticed.

Seal Team Six doesn't adhere to any military dress code, looking at them you would never think they were in the military.

They do not adhere to international law either, and most of their missions are not documented thoroughly as they operate outside of military protocal - mainly top secret missions such as this which may not be authorized by another country/government.

I'm sure they heard/saw the blackhawk detonation but doubtful the gunfire was noticeable

"In the dead of night, residents of the middle-class area, home to retired army officers and businessmen, woke to a helicopter gunfight, which filled them with dread."

"There was a massive explosion: a huge flame leapt into the sky from the house, and then shortly afterwards it all appeared to be over."

"Over the past two months, people in simple, plain clothes came around posing as prospective property buyers who wanted to get to know the area a bit better.

They would admire neighbours' homes and say they wanted to build houses similar to those seen in the vicinity.

One of the men even went to the Bin Laden compound to make inquiries about the neighbourhood."

People living in the area, known as Thanda Choha, told BBC Urdu that they were commanded in Pashto to switch off their lights and not to leave their homes.

Shortly afterwards residents said they heard shots being fired and the sound of heavy firearms.

how many evidence do you need that somehow the Pakistani military was in the loop? When the operation started people were ordered to stay inside. You have a helicopter blowing up, the whole neigborhood knowing that something was going on, a 40 minutes operation with heavy gunfights, a military base down the road and you believe that during all of this the Pakistani military were playing poker?

http://jazbablog.com/2011/05/02/us-forces-jammed-pakistan-radar-system/

US forces prior to launching an attack on Osama Bin Laden well inside Pakistan had jammed the country’s radar system to escape detection.

Prior to entering Pakistan airspace they jammed the radars system and were flying low level and entered Pakistan area. Due to jammers the radars could not pick them up. The helicopters were well equipped with night vision equipments and through satellite they had located the target. The entire operation was controlled from Batgram, sources told.

They were running around trying to figure out what was happening after the fact. See my post about how the US jammed Pakistan's radar. I posted evidence. Where is yours?

I have more for you. It was Americans telling people to shut off lights and stay inside, at least according to this guy.

Local and residents of the area told that were told by the Americans to turn off the lights and remain into their homes.

Hah, check out the reaction of the special operations team when they heard who their target that night was.

Detroit Free Press - Rep. Mike Rogers first learned of Osama bin Laden's Pakistan compound in January

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, first learned of the compound that housed Osama bin Laden in January when he took over as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

“There were a small number of us who got to see the pieces put into place,” Rogers said during a press conference this afternoon. “They believed at the time that it was Osama bin Laden, but they didn’t have enough information to act at the time. They kept building the case.”

Rogers first learned that an operation to take out bin Laden was imminent on Saturday during a phone meeting.

Rogers was told that "when they announced to the elite special forces unit about the target of their mission, there was a loud and thunderous cheer, which shows the commitment of the special forces.”

LOL from you own f*cking link

"Sources also told that Pakistan and US forces were in constant touch and intelligence was duly shared however the US did not take Pakistan onboard when they would be launching the attack."

I know, I can read. It still supports the simple fact that Pakistan did not give us help in the attack. We snuck in and did what needed to be done before Pakistan could find out and tip off anyone.

The dude that popped him is getting all the military pussy that knows he did it.

I thought about going out this weekend, and for the next few weeks, to the bars and talk about my brother who was on the mission to kill him and was the one who did the double tap to Osama to try and get all the pussy I can from the great news 😛

The pakistani looked the other way because they were told to do so but they surely knew that something was going on, probably not that OBL was in that compound but for sure that something was in that compound that the US REALLY REALLY wanted. They were probably in the dark about the objective but I'm sure that they knew that US troops were in that area and to stay away.

Do some reading, there are different sides in the Pakistani Military and intelligence community, pro OBL and pro western. Just like I'm pretty sure that some in the Pakistani army were in the loop about the US action, I'm also sure that elements of the pakistani army and intelligency service helped OBL when staying in that compound. CIA probably knows after 10 years and lots of trial and error who they can trust and not trust

Nobody would fall for it. The SEALs have no human relatives. Everybody knows they are born of the unholy union of hot shit and cold hard steel.

and yes, I can also use bloggers as a source

"Earlier, Pakistani intelligence officials, speaking anonymously, had said bin Laden was killed in a joint operation. One official called the mission “primarily ISI,” a reference to Pakistan’s top spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence directorate."

and Obama himself said that there was Pakinstani assistance

"The statement by Pakistan’s foreign ministry pointedly did not cite any Pakistani involvement in the operation, even though President Obama, in an announcement from the White House, cited Pakistani assistance."

IF there was any Pakistani involvement it was either really high up, or local CIA assets. Obama talking about Pakistani assistance could also be him being polite and including them so they aren't as butthurt we violated their airspace, and didn't include them in the actual raid. The fact is we are likely to never really know the extent of their involvement.

and Pakistani govt will always downplay it for obvious internal politicial reasons.
