How smart can they really be if they've willingly agreed to being stuck on a boat for a year or two with only other men on board?![]()
You must have missed the last couple of decades as women are stationed aboard ships and submarines.

This is a good thing?
Attacking people when we have killed Osama?
Our goal of killing Osama (metaphorically) has been reached. There is no need to go after those that helped Osama now.

Of course there's a need. We need to send a clear and precise message that those who harbor cockroaches who kill our people will be dealt with harshly.
My g/f is freaking out, but now is relieved, because her brother is part of the SEALS, but he is group 2 out in San Diego.... he is overseas and she hasnt heard from him since Easter... Puts me in a bad spot... but its all good

No one was injured in the mission...why would she be freaking out?
Seal group 2 was not involved in this mission.

What's so secret about them? I see them all the time.

They aren't secret in the sense CIA operatives or Delta Force are, no doubt. However, much of the equipment they use is and their identities are often obfuscated to some degree for family reasons. CIA was definately involved in the takedown, if for no other reason than to handle intel gathering after the shooting. It is possible Delta and other agencies were involved, but their secrecy mandate is very strict. Different levels and needs of secrecy between SEALS and CIA/Delta.
According to Wiki, DevGru is a Tier 1 "black element" just like the Deltas.

kewl....
I wonder why they chose SEALS Team Six rather than Delta Force?
The Navy has the smartest enlisted people in the world, in fact most are smarter than the Officers in charge of the teams.
Well, now we know why all of us had trouble ID'ing the helicopter that crashed, or was brought down, in the Osama raid.

It was a secretly developed stealth helicopter, probably a highly modified version of an H-60 Blackhawk. Photos published in the Daily Mail and on the Secret Projects board show that the helicopter's tail features stealth-configured shapes on the boom and tip fairings, swept stabilizers and a "dishpan" cover over a non-standard five-or-six-blade tail rotor. It has a silver-loaded infra-red suppression finish similar to that seen on some V-22s.
No wonder the team tried to destroy it. The photos show that they did a thorough job - except for the end of the tailboom, which ended up outside the compound wall. (It almost looks as if the helo's tail hit the wall on landing.)
The assault force of Navy SEALs snatched a trove of papers, computer drives and disks, yielding what a U.S. official called the mother lode of intelligence. The special operations forces grabbed personal computers, thumb drives, and more. They cleaned it out, one official said. Can you imagine whats on Osama bin Ladens hard drive? U.S. officials are about to find out. (Probably porn, one e-mailer speculates.)
The material is being examined at a secret location in Afghanistan. Hundreds of people are going through it now, an official said, adding that CIA analysts are excited to find out what they have. Its going to be great even if only 10 percent of it is actionable, the official said.
The SEALs took fire on their way to the compounds third floor. The encounter with bin Laden lasted only seconds, and ended with a kill shot to his face. The teams photos of bin Laden are gruesome, complicating officials deliberations about whether to release them. Officials also have images of bin Laden in a white shroud before his burial in the North Arabian Sean.
The raid was not supposed to last more than 30 minutes. The forces finished in 38 minutes, even though they lost one of their choppers and had to go to a back-up plan. Four helicopters were used in the raid. Two went in, and two were in reserve. Hovering above the compound on the way in, one of the choppers developed a mechanical problem that caused it to lose lift. The pilot made a controlled landing, according to the officials. When he couldnt get the bird airborne again, the SEALs blew it up and left in one of the reserves.
Officials described the reaction of the special operators when they were told a number of weeks ago that they had been chosen to train for the mission. They were told, We think we found Osama bin Laden, and your job is to kill him, an official recalled. The SEALs started to cheer.
WASHINGTON — Intelligence garnered from waterboarded detainees was used to track down al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and kill him, CIA Chief Leon Panetta told NBC News on Tuesday.
"Enhanced interrogation techniques" were used to extract information that led to the mission's success, Panetta said during an interview with anchor Brian Williams. Those techniques included waterboarding, he acknowledged.
