This is a good thing?

Attacking people when we have killed Osama?

Our goal of killing Osama (metaphorically) has been reached. There is no need to go after those that helped Osama now.

-John

Of course there's a need. We need to send a clear and precise message that those who harbor cockroaches who kill our people will be dealt with harshly.

Yea, the terrorist most wanted list will still remain I am sure. What, and if any, changes occur in pursuing them is another issue. I would doubt they wouldn't pick up anyone known to be involved in 9/11, say those between the hijackers and BL, if there whereabouts were known.

What's so secret about them? I see them all the time.

They aren't secret in the sense CIA operatives or Delta Force are, no doubt. However, much of the equipment they use is and their identities are often obfuscated to some degree for family reasons. CIA was definately involved in the takedown, if for no other reason than to handle intel gathering after the shooting. It is possible Delta and other agencies were involved, but their secrecy mandate is very strict. Different levels and needs of secrecy between SEALS and CIA/Delta.

According to Wiki, DevGru is a Tier 1 "black element" just like the Deltas.

How smart can they really be if they've willingly agreed to being stuck on a boat for a year or two with only other men on board? :D

If you think Navy SEAL members are manning the U.S Navy ships at sea like 18-20 year-old kids, you're mistaken.

LemonLaw Parody: Clearly these seals should be offered up to the international criminal court for murdering a suspect without reading him his Miranda rights.

The Navy has the smartest enlisted people in the world, in fact most are smarter than the Officers in charge of the teams.

No fail. Air Force. Sends officers into combat. Enlisted is smartly in the rear with the gear. (para rescue being exception)

Sounds like the U.S. government has some toys it's not yet willing to admit it has...

Stealth Helos Used In Osama Raid

Well, now we know why all of us had trouble ID'ing the helicopter that crashed, or was brought down, in the Osama raid.

It was a secretly developed stealth helicopter, probably a highly modified version of an H-60 Blackhawk. Photos published in the Daily Mail and on the Secret Projects board show that the helicopter's tail features stealth-configured shapes on the boom and tip fairings, swept stabilizers and a "dishpan" cover over a non-standard five-or-six-blade tail rotor. It has a silver-loaded infra-red suppression finish similar to that seen on some V-22s.

No wonder the team tried to destroy it. The photos show that they did a thorough job - except for the end of the tailboom, which ended up outside the compound wall. (It almost looks as if the helo's tail hit the wall on landing.)

Oh, so there are photos out there...

Politico - Playbook

The assault force of Navy SEALs snatched a trove of papers, computer drives and disks, yielding what a U.S. official called “the mother lode of intelligence.” The special operations forces grabbed personal computers, thumb drives, and more. “They cleaned it out,” one official said. “Can you imagine what’s on Osama bin Laden’s hard drive?” U.S. officials are about to find out. (Probably porn, one e-mailer speculates.)

The material is being examined at a secret location in Afghanistan. “Hundreds of people are going through it now,” an official said, adding that CIA analysts are excited to find out what they have. “It’s going to be great even if only 10 percent of it is actionable,” the official said.

The SEALs took fire on their way to the compound’s third floor. The encounter with bin Laden lasted only seconds, and ended with a kill shot to his face. The team’s photos of bin Laden are gruesome, complicating officials’ deliberations about whether to release them. Officials also have images of bin Laden in a white shroud before his burial in the North Arabian Sean.

The raid was not supposed to last more than 30 minutes. The forces finished in 38 minutes, even though they lost one of their choppers and had to go to a back-up plan. Four helicopters were used in the raid. Two went in, and two were in reserve. Hovering above the compound on the way in, one of the choppers developed a mechanical problem that caused it to lose lift. The pilot made a controlled landing, according to the officials. When he couldn’t get the bird airborne again, the SEALs blew it up and left in one of the reserves.

Officials described the reaction of the special operators when they were told a number of weeks ago that they had been chosen to train for the mission. “They were told, ‘We think we found Osama bin Laden, and your job is to kill him,’” an official recalled. The SEALs started to cheer.

CIA chief: Waterboarding aided bin Laden raid

WASHINGTON — Intelligence garnered from waterboarded detainees was used to track down al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and kill him, CIA Chief Leon Panetta told NBC News on Tuesday.

"Enhanced interrogation techniques" were used to extract information that led to the mission's success, Panetta said during an interview with anchor Brian Williams. Those techniques included waterboarding, he acknowledged.
