The second Xbox 360 revealed: codename Zephyr

Video: X360 with HDMI, Fake or No?

Additional Pics and Info

120GiG Black Xbox360 With HDMI Official!?

Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 -- the Xbox 360 v2, if you will -- codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won't just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it's also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered. The 120GB drive may or may not come bundled with the kit, we don't yet know, just as we also don't yet know how much a Zephyr 360 is going to run (we imagine it'll go for the same price as currently so they can keep up a little on their expanding margin). But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we'd be able to get them "soon."

Just ran across this article, kind of interesting. Might have to upgrade my self if this info turns out to be correct.

Wonder if they'll sell this one at $400 and drop the price of the current "Premium" down to $300 or something...and what would happen with the Core? Three versions of the same console seems a bit much.

Perhaps drop the core altogether? Then have this version and the current premium I'm thinking.

Eh, if it's worth the money, I'll just buy it when it comes out to replace my current XBOX 360. It's always nice having a back-up or I could just pass my current system off as a present .

All I'd really be interested in is the larger HDD. Don't need the HDMI right now.

This leak is actually bad news for MS as it is going to make people wait instead of getting a 360 now.

I don't know why people think that those of us who already own a Xbox 360 would be mad at Microsoft. Pretty much every console in existence has gone through a hardware refresh over its lifespan; missing out on a HDMI connector and a cooler/quieter CPU, which certainly desirable, is an acknowledged part of the gamble. I'm not upset in the least.

Same, but I do need a bigger HDD, like today. :D

Well, the article's insider seems to suggest that they will be available "soon" so that might not be such a bad thing. If this turns out to be correct, I believe this version may sell like hot cakes.

You'll be waiting for most of this year too. Supposedly the 65nanometer CPU has been pushed back to sometime in the second half of the year.

hrm...now, the decision...to buy a current Premium on the cheap when this comes out, or this for the cooler processor and bigger HD (don't care about HDMI right now).

Well, I'll admit I'm a little disappointed since this seems to indicate there's no way to get HDMI from my current 360. I have a 1080p TV that doesn't have VGA so I have to watch HD-DVD in 1080i. My launch 360 has worked flawlessly so there's absolutely no reason for me to want to replace it.

VGA->DVI->HDMI

I don't know...it's weird that Engadget is saying "soon" but their sister site Joystiq reported that the smaller processors were delayed.

i've always wondered why they don't use a standard hard drive on the 360.
why do you have to buy a microsoft hard drive?
I mean, for the ps3 you can just pick up any cheap 2.5" SATA drive on newegg and pop it in.

what's so special about the 360 drives?

same question about the microsoft wireless adaptor and the microsoft headset, but that's another story

Agreed... I don't regret getting one in the least...and I dont' expect to see this until next fall...that would be a lot of missed gaming opportunity to wait that long. It won't be that much of a difference over the current system. I'm not missing HDMI in the least...actually it would be very unlikely I'd switch to HDMI since I'm running VGA at 1366x768 (native resolution of my HDTV).

What will be nice for the consumer is if the current premium model could become the low end model and sell for $300...you really couldn't beat that for value anytime soon...would have Sony sweating for sure. Really, MS should do that as soon as possible if they really want to widen the gap between Sony and themselves.

I'm just gonna sell my current Xbox 360 and buy a new one. Simple as that.

What's so special is MS gets a cut of every drive sold.

If you could use any old drive, they wouldn't get anything from the sale of them.
