No link, OP? You don't want us to see that it was some 10,000 RPM server-class hard drive with 7-year warranty and some shelf wear on the package?

Yeah, that was the whole purpose of the thread. To dupe you unsuspecting fools for my own amusement.

*sarcasm*

No, I couldn't post a link since I'm on Tapatalk.

I've found that a good percentage of buyers on Craigslist are complete morons, incapable of writing an email longer than five words. My favorite is when they lowball but make it a point to mention that they have the cash in hand, like that's supposed to impress me. Did you think I was going to accept food stamps from other buyers?

Yeah, I get this too, but it only annoys me if they offer some ridiculous amount, like half of what I was asking for. But that's why I will generally add "I will entertain offers, but be reasonable. " Has worked ok for me.

I actually expect people to negotiate the price, that's half the fun of CL - getting to feel a person out and do a little back and forth on the price

You know the 42" Sharp LCD TV Best Buy had on Black Friday for $199? I saw one on craigslist last week.

$800

I don't mind people trying to make a profit, but that's just ridiculous.

One of my great annoyances is when I'm trying to find something and people tell me to check Craigslist.
ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID? Thats the worst place to go!

Use your disposable email account to ask where the seller lives. Ask if they'll drive to the other side of town for $20. Tell them you'll meet them at the other side of town. Don't show up.

Hmmm. I like this idea. I'll have to use it on one of the egregious spammers

I've had great experience with CL in the last few years I've been using it, mostly to sell stuff. Sold $1000s worth of furniture a while back (~4 years old listed at about 40-60% of what I've paid originally), college textbooks were usually snapped within a few days after being posted, miscellaneous stuff from around the house, old Sony 27" CRT got snapped in 3 days for $50, etc. Just ignore the lowballers and filter out folks based on how they write to you. Googling their email/alias helps too.

EDIT: Oh yeah, sold a junk car on CL for $1400 while getting measly offers for $200-300 from local junk car companies.

when you need an exact model of an old drive for a platter swap, $190 is cheap.

yeah, for some reason people on this thread hate on CL when what they really hate is people. which is fine, but don't blame CL for your problems with buyers and sellers. i really cannot think of a better alternative to CL for a LOT of things. you're not going to sell your couch on ebay. forums like this have a very limited audience for a very specific product. i've found my car and 3 motorcycles on CL. bought most of the furniture in my house on CL. sold a 1/10th scale model M1 tank on CL, how else would i be able to sell that? i'm not dealing with packing that up and shipping it somewhere.

anyone have a better alternative?

CL is awesome for deals when they pop up.
Flag and move on, simple as that.
If people are dumb enough to pay the high prices, that's their fault for lack of research.
Caveat emptor.

Deals on CL for electronics are rarely ever found. People have no idea how fast their electronics depreciate. But then again there is a bottom out price as well regardless of the item involved.

I think it's more that people aren't willing to take a huge loss on their electronics even if they don't use it anymore. If their 2 year old TV can't fetch more than half what they paid for it, they'll just keep it.

So wait, you mean to tell me that there are people on the internets looking to take advantage of others for financial gain? NO WAY!

As always, being an educated consumer is your only protection in any marketplace.

This pretty much sums it up..
There are lots of dinks out there that think they have gold for sale.
Some are just also trying to rip people off.
Being aware is the only way to avoid this stuff!

Let me guess, you also had to turn your head 90 degrees to look at the pictures.

LOL. One time I posted a set of wheels and I had several high-resolution pictures that I included with the ad using HTML tags. Had a few people ask "how did you get such nice looking pictures!?"

CL's included image hosting service is horrible. HORRIBLE. I guess that's what you get for a free service.
