"the same coke you love, just less of it!'

i was on my way back to the office when there stood a couple of guys outside a pickup truck adorned with the coca cola label. they were giving out red bull shaped cans, and, being a good at'er, i took two without knowing what was in them. as i was walking away, i asked what it was, and they said it was just coke. it's a pretty enough can, but it's only 8.4 ounces (250 ml) as opposed to the normal 12 ounce can. i was thinking to myself, who would buy a smaller drink like that? i pray it was just a promotional giveaway and they aren't going to start actively selling these smaller cans, because i would hate to think that people would be dumb enough to buy them. oh well, seeing how i don't usually drink sodas anyway, i'll just keep them in my fridge until someone comes over and wants one.

Oh, the horror! The Conspiracy! Oh the...oh wait. IT's called marketing silly. 😛

They did this a few years back with a candy company. They gave you just enough of a sample of the candy to taste it and that was it.

My Diet Coke can right in front of me says "12 FL OZ (355mL)".

EDIT: It also says "Serv. Size 1 Can"

BUT it also says, "VERY LOW SODIUM, 35 mg OR LESS PER 240 mL (8 fl oz.)"

I think he was saying that on a bottle a "serving" is 8oz., so in a 20oz. coke you get 2.5 servings.

Well the american coke cans are the largest I've seen. In Europe etc. they are smaller...
Canadian ones were smaller too, and made of much tougher aluminum (the good stuff comes from Canada you know 😉) but then sometime in the early Nineties we switched to American cans with flimsy aluminum that's easier to dent.

They have sold those mini-coke cans for about 2-3 years now down here in FL....

never seen em before?

I think we might be a big test market for new products though, cause there is a bunch of other things here that arent available anywhere else yet.

People drink way too much soda these days, as evidenced by the larger and larger cans/bottles.

In the 60's young males drank 2 glasses of milk for every soda they drank
Now it's two sodas to every glass of milk.

The average American drinks 6 servings of Soda per day, each serving containing up to 10 tablespoons of sugar and caffine to boot.

This is cool. They'd be easier to put in school's lunch bags. And plus if they could sell it for more per ounce with the smaller can but still trick people into thinking the smaller can is cheaper to buy. Bigger profits.

yes... just in case someone out ther hasn't tried coca cola before, ever, in their lifetime.

they sell half-height cans of coke here. our bottle does weird things though. well, cool things

<--- picked up a set of Lance Armstrong Tour de France bottles last night

Yep. Heard today on the news 61% of Americans are overweight or obese. That's 61% of ALL Americans, young thru old. I admit I am addicted to sodas, if I don't stop I'll never lose the last 20 lbs. I need to. Ahhhhh!

No, they have been selling the half height cans for 2-3 years, these new cans are the shap of the Red Bull cans.

thank god i don't drink soda anymore. Freshman year I went through about a case a week. Now that I look about I can't beleive how i even did it. It ruined my teeth (numerous cavities) and made me quite fat. Since i've stopped drinking it i know i've saved hundreds over the year.

I am going to only drink diet soda since I am 21 and there is no relation and I've been drinking beer ever since so there's not much change other than I'll be able to drink beer in a bar, which is nice because then it is fresh - but it is usually $3 instead of $1 so I will start trying to save my money elsewhere or maybe I should just quit drinking beer.
