Such as?

Some things were left unexplained, but it was nothing major.

What was the signifigance of the fly?
The nosebleeds? I realize they happened a couple of times but I failed to make a connection.

What about where the girl came from?

What about an explanation for why faces were messed up in pictures?

How come the boy (Aiden. btw that kid was just eerie) had a special connection in which he always knew what the girl was thinking?

Why did the screws in the cabin at the end come out of the floor and then let out insects? I understand her time had come but why the screws coming undone and the insects?

I don't know I was just very unsatisfied at the end of the movie. I will watch the previously mentioned other movies to get a better understanding.

well they didnt explain every little detail, but they didn't have to. it wasn't essential to the plot. they explained the main thing.

The fly was prooving the surreal nature of what is going on. Did you see how the fly jumped out of the screen? freaky. Its been a while and I cant explain the nosebleeds. Seeing the movie once was scary enough.

What about where the girl came from?

The Girl was adopted. I forget from where. But they explained it fine enough.

What about an explanation for why faces were messed up in pictures?

This again shows us more of how their lives are changin. Its just anonther sign that they are under the "spell" if you will.

How come the boy (Aiden. btw that kid was just eerie) had a special connection in which he always knew what the girl was thinking?

After watching the movie you previeve what she was going through. He wasn't the only one to see things in that way.

Why did the screws in the cabin at the end come out of the floor and then let out insects? I understand her time had come but why the screws coming undone and the insects?

Been too long but I bet there is an easy enough explaination for this.

I don't know I was just very unsatisfied at the end of the movie. I will watch the previously mentioned other movies to get a better understanding.

What was the signifigance of the fly?

To show the thin line between reality and Samara reality.

The nosebleeds? I realize they happened a couple of times but I failed to make a connection.

Just a progression towards death. The original Japanese version didn't have this.

What about where the girl came from?

Samara? I thought this was explained in the movie. Her mother couldn't conceive, so she went to some other country and adopt. In the original Japanese she went to some other country and took some voodoo drugs to help her conceive.

What about an explanation for why faces were messed up in pictures?

It means you're marked for death by Samara.

How come the boy (Aiden. btw that kid was just eerie) had a special connection in which he always knew what the girl was thinking?

The girl connected with Aiden because of their similiarities: they were both distant from their mothers (notice how he always called her Rachael instead of mom? And how he's basically a latchkey kid), so he was able to sympathize with her.

Why did the screws in the cabin at the end come out of the floor and then let out insects? I understand her time had come but why the screws coming undone and the insects?

Hmm i do'nt recall this.

What was the signifigance of the fly?
--The fly showed the ability of Samara to control the real world mentally.

The nosebleeds? I realize they happened a couple of times but I failed to make a connection.
--Some people's noses bleed.

What about where the girl came from?
--Ask your mom where babies come from.

What about an explanation for why faces were messed up in pictures?
--Samara's ability to affect media. That has to be the easiest thing to figure out, if you can even call it "figuring". I mean damn.. she made a video tape didn't she??

How come the boy (Aiden. btw that kid was just eerie) had a special connection in which he always knew what the girl was thinking?
--He didn't know what she was thinking. She just communicated with him. Maybe he had a 6th sense or something.. does it matter??

There were no plot holes... just things you demand an explicit explanation for.

Why did the screws in the cabin at the end come out of the floor and then let out insects? I understand her time had come but why the screws coming undone and the insects?
--The screws come out so that the floor can collapse. In case you didn't notice, the well was below the cabin, and the girl was in the well. You know, after her mother threw her in. Insects? There are insects underground. Maybe she ate them.

I don't know I was just very unsatisfied at the end of the movie. I will watch the previously mentioned other movies to get a better understanding.
--Japanese people aren't scary.

LOL The Japanese Ring was good, and scary!! But it contained even more plot holes.... so many they needed a sequel, AND a prequel to explain it all. The Ring US version tried to combine all 3 into one... i think it did a pretty good job.

Jjust to clear a couple things up, Samara was not adopted. They showed the certificate of a live birth with mothers name being, what ever the mom's name was. So I am pretty sure you are supposed to concluded that when they left for the winter they went somewhere to have a 'supernatural' birth. And the fly, that was just one of the images from the tape, like the ladder, the horses and what not, cause when Noah was in the basement looking for records they fly made the same move on the door as in the tape. The screws, they just remove support so the TV could hit Rach.

I wouldn't call them plot holes, but I could see how that would be an easy assumption to make.

I think the movie just requires some little creative (very creative) thinking to get to the bottom of it.

No. See the three original Ringu movies, they'll explain alot.
The original Ringu was boring, not scary, and cheesy in comparison.

Someone dies and it's like a 5 second still with the colors reverse. Their death pose is just them with their mouth open. The "cabin" in Ringu is this fully furnished, modern, super clean condo.

In the Ring, there is real tension, the faces of the dead people are freakin great, and the atmosphere/look is 10 times better.

edit: and how could I forget...the "tape" in Ringu was laughable. The one in The Ring was awesome!!

I had high expectations for Ringu since people were raving about it but after seeing it I've come to the conclusion that these are just film elitists.

LOL hope you can sleep!

Yes, Ringu is in Japanese, but there are subs for it. Ringu 2 is the sequel, and Birthday is the prequel. As for where to get it.... well, now that you know the names...

Well, The Ring is the American version. Ringu is the original Japanese version.

I'm not such a big fan of the original. I saw the original before seeing the American remake, and just thought the American remake was much more refined. I didn't like the girl in the Japanese version... she starts out being the star of the film, then gets pushed aside by the ex-husband... who's also a bit too demanding. And there were so much more holes if you only watch Ringu without the sequel or prequel. Still, it was an excellent film and scary.

Yes, it was an ok movie, but you are correct. Lots of holes and lots of cliche moments.

Let me add on to that.

1. Why did the girl that's in the mental hospital know "3 more days" or something.

2. What's with the thing that came out of Naomi Watt's mouth? (she was choking and pulled out some string).

1. Why did the girl that's in the mental hospital know "3 more days" or something.

Hm, i never caught the 3 more days... or at least i don't remember it (been so long since i've watched it). But she was in the hospital because she saw the thing come out of the TV that killed her friend. It didn't kill her because she never saw the tape, but it was enough of a shock to make her mental. Maybe she was counting down the days till the week was over for her?

2. What's with the thing that came out of Naomi Watt's mouth? (she was choking and pulled out some string).

Damn, i know what that is, but i just can't remember the correct term for it. They're pads that go on the skin to read for changes in activity (galvanic skin response). Used for measuring arousal and other things. They're the devices that was used on Samara.

I just saw this movie last night.

Rebecca (the girl in the mental hospital) says, "Three days. You have 3 more days." I guess since she saw Samara-the-Bad-Seed she now has a connection with Samara's intended victims.

Questions:
1. Does everybody who watches the tape see the same thing? It seems that some of the images on the tape were very specific to Rachel (the reporter/mom). For example, the ladder and the fly in the beach scene. Maybe Samara changes the tape for each different viewer?

2. How does Samara kill people? A friend of mine said that since she comes out of the TV, there has to be a TV around for Samara to appear. When we finally see her when she kills Noah (the reporter/father), she has the "Videodrome/TV picture looking" effect, which suggests that she's connected to the TV somehow. But the teenagers in the car couldn't have been near a TV when they crashed. If this is true, then there was no TV at the bottom of the well when Rachel's time was up, so maybe that's why she wasn't killed. Remember that the TV in the cabin did try to get close to Rachel, but ended up pushing her into the well.

3. If you knew some freaky supernatural thing was going to kill you in exactly seven days, wouldn't you go buy lots of weapons, train in self-defense, and then surround yourself with a dozen priests/rabbis and bodyguards when your time was up?
