It will of course never happen, because it’s yet another case of Trump thoughtlessly sounding his butt-trumpet, but it would be interesting to see how he’d fare in a (legitimate, professionally conducted) IQ test.

If I had to guess, I'd say he's right about 100, which is quite an embarrassment for the POTUS. It was probably higher when he was younger.

I'm not sure how you score IQ with somebody who has early onset dementia. Not to mention the attention span of a coked up squirrel.

It doesn't matter what Trump intended. He did in fact undercut Tillerson. He has no credibility as a diplomat now, because those who he negotiates with have no reason to believe he has any influence over Trump.

If Trump and Tillerson really are playing a good cop, bad cop ploy with NK as has been suggested in some articles I've read, this is not the way to go about it. The good cop is supposed to gain the confidence of the mark, and present himself as a better alternative to the bad cop. If the bad cop is the leader, then the good cop has to be able to say that in spite of the bad cop's war mongering instincts, the good cop can convince him to go along with a deal, if only the mark would agree to the deal. As it stands, with Trump insulting Tillerson, NK will never believe any representations Tillerson makes about his ability to get Trump to cooperate. Tillerson is basically a joke now. If you're going to insult your SoS publicly, you may as well fire him because you've just cut his nuts off.

I think Trump has experienced the cognitive decline that goes along with aging. This occurs at varying times, and to varying degrees, from one person to the next. I am familiar with dementia from my immediate family. Even early stage dementia would preclude his ability to function in the role of candidate or POTUS, even as an incompetent one.

Exactly. What foreign power would take anything Tillerson says seriously at this point? If the SoS can't make credible statements/commitments to other countries he has no purpose.

Trump's problem isn't that he was born with a low IQ, it's that he's a narcissist who doesn't give a shit about learning and just wants to hoard money any way possible. Trump is so abysmally self-absorbed it's hard to guess. It's like trying to guess the IQ of a chimp newly arrived from the rain forest or a boy raised by wolves.

Usually you guess or infer someone's IQ by observing their analytical skills, their sharpness of mind, their ability to see how ideas relate to each other and to synthesize new ideas from those connections, and frankly, from how much stuff they know about a wide variety of subjects... history, literature, science. How smart they appear.

Trump: "My doctor told me my IQ was 140 over 120."

Trump's narcissism definitely impairs his functional intelligence. But there are areas where it's more about biological limitation than personality. For example, his inability to articulate thoughts in a coherent manner suggests that he just doesn't have very high raw intelligence. At least not at this stage in his life.
 
Oh dear god....Pompeo to SoS is one thing...but the word out there is Tom "Forrest Gump" Cotton is on deck to take over.

That's horrifying.
