The return of Buffy?

Best show of all time on death was the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode, The Body.

That said, I'm not completely behind the idea of anything more than say a miniseries with the old cast. They're old and have moved on, plus I'm not sure I want to see Xander so much now considering the Nicolas Brendon has been arrested several times now for being a drunken prick.

That episode was really well made indeed, they had several very powerful episodes around themes most 'light entertainment' programs would never even consider discussing. Didn't follow all their carreers after Buffy, so had not seen that news on Xander, but to be honest they wouldn't even need the full old crew for it. They could let some return only a few episodes or discuss what happened to them without bringing them back, while bringing back some of the others in other positions.
With The Librarians they also introduced new ones while keeping the old around to train them. Not that that series is on the same level as Buffy was, but it is possible to introduce new characters and have them do more and more without the old ones. As long as the scripts are good enough and the characters are likable. Or, in case with the evil ones, hateable.

No. It will not live up to the original, just leave it alone and do something that is original. We don't need another Fuller House.

It's not that people actually that Xander actor's career. It's just that he repeatedly was getting arrested for douchebag shit so he made the news.

Anyhow, I could see a TV or Netflix movie or perhaps a short run of episodes working, maybe.

Veronica Mars did well critically with their $6 million movie. It was a bit sappier than I'd hoped but overall it was decent.

This. As much as i loved the show i dont want a remake. Never in the history of mankind has a remake been good :)

That would be their best bet. Something like what Netflix did with Gilmore Girls. A limited run of episodes, like the old style TV mini series. It would certainly require the original cast and Joss Whedon.

I suppose that is true but it is much more complicated then that. Whedon wrote the original movie but it ended up being taken in a direction he didn't like. It might be more accurate to say the original movie was a remake of a Joss Whedon script.

While I have no clue what really happened as I wasn't there, I do find it a bit odd that all the movies that Whedon did that sucked are the fault of someone else, but the awesome ones were all him and him alone.

No, no... a thousand times no. Not a new series. Not a mini-series. Not even a two-hour long Reunion Episode. It's over. Done. Finished. As in "Is No More". I would've loved to see Firefly play out, but the world wasn't ready for that, and if anything is probably even less ready for it now... (And in any event, i's moment too has passed...) But Buffy? Please. Just. No. In fact, if they do end up doing something with it, I won't watch it at least until it's been hashed out and spoiler-ed to death on the Web (if ever), for fear of it ruining my ability to ever revisit the original on disc...<sigh>)

I was a huge Buffy fan (once the re-runs started, never really having the patience for once-weekly shows), in fact, it's the only TV show I ever have, and almost certainly ever will, buy on disc (albeit only because there was a great sale.) But there's just no conceivable way this could even possibly turn out well... If they could figure out how to write a new spinoff that was, say, 1000x better than Angel, that might possibly have a chance, but the original's dénouement (which I thought was extremely clever, in a series-wrapping-up way) pretty much, ahem, slayed any hope of creating another series about any One Slayer (with or without a sometime Evil Twin). And trying to do anything with a World Full of Slayers would just be ridiculous...

I couldn't care less about him being drunk or a prick off-screen (hell, if I'd made as much money as he did as young as he was despite having as little talent as he has, I might've ended up a drunken prick too.:p) Frankly, I could've more happily lived without Xander (or at least with a better version of/substitute for Xander) the first time. It's not like he could act his way out of cardboard box with the top ripped off anyway, he was pretty much just a dumb, whiny "straight man" for every other character as the need arose...

I don't know your feelings on comics, but the series did live on in canonical form in comics after the TV series ended. Haven't read those so I can't comment on them directly, but I did read Fray and quite enjoyed it (set far in the future, and has no Watcher for reasons that I will not spoil).

I thought Angel was mildly entertaining on a very occasional basis, and then only in a "laugh at it, not with it" sorta way...:p And even then only because I liked the characters/actors who played Cordelia and when he eventually hopped on board, Spike. David Borenaz as an actor, on the other hand, I've always loathed, in any role/show, and as a character, I was always strongly inclined to agree with Spike's (and to some extent Xander's) views on Angel...:D

I liked them when I was a (pre-pubescent) kid, 40+ years ago... ;) (I'll admit to enjoying a couple of one of my then-apartment-mate's Judge Dredd issues in my mid-20s, but really only in a "hmm, this is kind of clever…" way that had zero lasting appeal for me...

The Firefly movie was pretty good actually. It only grossed $40 million in the theatres on a $39 million budget, but it was quite popular afterwards on disc and for TV and eventually streaming rights, and it also did well for books and comics. Overall, it made money.

ie. Not only did it please fans and critics, it actually made money. Not big money but overall it was in the black.

I meant Firefly-the-series. You don't mean Serenity, that aired on TV, right? If there was in fact a Firefly theater-movie (too lazy to Google), I never even saw it (and obviously, don't remember its existence.:D) I thought even Serenity was very watered down given the direction the series had seemed to be going in/what I liked about it, so if there was a theater-movie, I'm sure my thought was that it could at best be Serenity-ish, which wouldn't have been worth sitting through, let alone paying any amount of money for, to me...

I don't really see how "the medium" can have "progressed"... Comics (even in more sophisticated "graphic prose" form) are what they are, stories told primarily in pictures. I appreciate the artwork as artwork, but basically I'm just not a "visual person", so following a story in a series printed/displayed pictures just amounts to tedium-concretized for me. (And my native tendency is to read much too quickly to even be able to enjoy anything in comic/"graphic novel" format as "prose accompanied by pictures"...)

Not difficult: better artwork, better storylines and writing (you know, beyond Batman or Spiderman fighting the villain of the week).
And TV is literally a series of displayed pictures :D

WTF are you talking about? :confused: I don't see anything like that in this thread. My comment was just addressing the "remake" label (valid or not). While Whedon may have not liked the original movie, I was under the impression that there are a reasonable number of fans of that film. I don't believe the critics liked it but it did make money.

If you don't like Whedon, create a thread for that. I am sure you won't be alone.
