Not difficult: better artwork, better storylines and writing (you know, beyond Batman or Spiderman fighting the villain of the week).
The issue was never really the storylines, afaic, but the medium itself. Just doesn't work for me...

And TV is literally a series of displayed pictures :D

Well, yes, but those go by 24-30 per second. That, I can live with...:p (Though for that matter, I'm much more inclined to listen to a TV program while doing something else than watching it with the sound off.) But having merely mortal human eyes, I can't quite match that speed when it comes to "viewing" still images (though I can read text at an unusually fast rate...);)

I do miss seeing Anya on TV though as she was super cute and hilarious. Fav character by far. Angel being my least fav.

I meant Firefly-the-series. You don't mean Serenity, that aired on TV, right? If there was in fact a Firefly theater-movie (too lazy to Google), I never even saw it (and obviously, don't remember its existence.:D) I thought even Serenity was very watered down given the direction the series had seemed to be going in/what I liked about it, so if there was a theater-movie, I'm sure my thought was that it could at best be Serenity-ish, which wouldn't have been worth sitting through, let alone paying any amount of money for, to me...
Serenity was a theatrical release. Also while it may have not been your preference, it was IMO amongst the most accessible of entire Firefly series.

WTF are you talking about? I don't see anything like that in this thread. My comment was just addressing the "remake" label (valid or not). While Whedon may have not liked the original movie, I was under the impression that there are a reasonable number of fans of that film. I don't believe the critics liked it but it did make money.

If you don't like Whedon, create a thread for that. I am sure you won't be alone.

I liked the original movie overall, at least when I saw it in the theatre a million years ago.

First, was the Serenity that aired on TV the same as what played in theaters? If so, I truly can't imagine sitting through that in a theater. Much the same as for the final episode of Farscape (which I thought was about as lame as it could possibly have been, in context), I watched whatever it was that aired on TV for finality's sake, but didn't think much of it compared to the (in Firefly's case, short series of) regular episodes it was nominally based on.

As for my opinion of Serenity, I wasn't commenting on its "success", but my own opinion of it, which is what this entire thread is about, no? I have no real/firm opinion as to how popular or financially successful a Buffy "remake" might or might not be, but given the modern media-watching public's penchant for (what I consider to be largely unimaginative) derivative work, I expect it would be at least moderately successful, if only out of nostalgia among the many of its original viewers who are now entering or rapidly approaching early middle age...

And as for Serenity, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that it was more "popular" than Firefly, but as in the case of Buffy, what I liked so much about the show wasn't the basic storyline, but the characters, their relationships, the acting, and the dialog itself, and what I perceived to be various subtle and not-so subtle subtexts (whether they were all intended or not) as they played out over time. I thought Buffy-the-movie, for example, was entertaining in a mildly satirical, dumb-but-cute way, but based on it alone, (a) I didn't make a mad dash to see the series when it first aired, and (b) I certainly wouldn't have guessed I'd end up liking that as much as I ultimately did. (In fact, while I thought the series was "watchable" enough even early on, it wasn't until the latter part of the first season and beyond that I started thinking it had real, long-term potential...)

I can respect that. I'll never read most good books because, even though I've always read quickly, books just don't do it for me regardless of how awesome they are. I'll tolerate one rarely, but given the choice I'll always take a different medium.

Unless there's a setting on my forum browsing I've screwed up, there were two posts above mine (yours included) implying that the reason the movie wasn't that great was because "executive meddling". This came from Whedon, who was vocal about it.. unless you're saying you heard it from someone that wasn't quoting him. This is something I've heard a lot on the movies he was involved in that sucked, he claims "executive meddling". On the movies that have heavy "executive meddling" like Avengers that were popular he's said things worked out how he wanted them.. either way.. the post was made because it crossed my mind after the two post above him implied that the Buffy movie would have been awesome without "executive meddling". Sorry that seems to touched a nerve with you on the guy. I'm personally indifferent towards him as he's made things I've loved like Buffy, and things I'm not liked.

Buffy was a great show in its day, guess I've aged out of it. Would prefer something new, not recycled.
