I think as far as the general public is concerned, the Republicans still stink. It's going to take quite some time for them to wash the Bush off themselves.

You are correct but Barrack Hussein Obama is doing his best to show us that Bush wasn't so bad.

Hi, look at me, I'm trolling.

Nice one there sparky. I think most Americans can realize that the near doubling of the US debt while having a failing economy resulting from the last 8 years of Repuglicans hasn't gotten us anywhere.

BTW, I like your sig. Except it should read: Annoy a fascist Faux Repuglican, be free.

Exactly. Budmantom isn't part of the general public, he's one of the remaining few who just can't see how horrible the Bush admin was.

I think the public is coming around to the idea this is nothing but a pork barrel of grand proportions. Something they thought was voted out of office in November. So to claim republicans voicing their concerns over this as overplaying their hands is silly.

As you will note the republicans havent filibustered it, which means they are going to let the democrats own this 100%. And judging by the zero republicans in the house and the 3 in the senate. Democrats will have nowhere to run and nobody to blame when questions are asked where and why we spent nearly 1 trillion dollars if nothing comes of it.

Yes they did, but it is the only thing they can do for a comeback. If they go along with it they get no credit and have nothing to stand on in 2010. If they oppose it, they can at least have something to run on because the economy won't be booming by then and if it is really bad they might have a case. Right now it doesn't look well for them but in the long run it is all they could have done.

Ahhh, such as great strategy. Instead of taking ownership and trying to improve the country, they'll just let us get further in debt while they play more games. Gotcha politics at its finest.

Most disgusting moves from the Repuglicans.

Let's see, Republicans run in 2010, even if they win, they still don't have any policies that work, so they'll be thrown out again in 2010. So all this obstructionism and throwing monkey wrenches into the economic recovery plans, just so they can stay in power for a couple years?

It isn't so much that their policies don't work as much as it is they don't follow their own supposed beliefs when they have the power to do so. They had 6 years to be small government fiscal conservatives, and instead they acted like war-mongering Democrats.

They made their suggestions and democrats went with what they felt best. What do you suggest? Republicans voting with democrats on a pork bill they dont think will help, just for the sake of it? This isnt gotcha politics, this is let the democrats put the sword in their own heart. It was going to pass regardless. No need to put their name on the bottom line and let democrats point to it and pass blame in the future.

As I've said before, the only differences between a Democrat of the last 30 years and a "Republican" of the last 30 years is that the Republicans have been MORE left fiscally and completely federal-fascist socially. They don't even know what their name stands for anymore.

No, this is letting the ship sink so they can re-arrange the chairs on the deck making them look busy and innocent. They could certainly stop this, or at least make such a huge deal about it that the Dems would have no option. Instead of making a stand and being true Republicans they are playing political "gotcha" hackery as Repuglicans.

And what, take the blame when the ship sinks and the lack of a pork package is used as the reason? Why?

No matter how good or how bad Obama is as a president, it will never change the fact that Bush was a terrible president.

Not so fast!

It is a documented fact that 95% of Americans have a political memory of only some 6 months. So by July, most Americans will no longer remember GWB :p

Seems that the Democrats are going to erase that deficit with just one bill.

The Democrats are about to add more to our national debt with just one bill than Bush did in his first four years.

Going to get worse than that John wait will 2009 tax receipts start coming in and the subsequent borrowing that will require just to meet mandates. For example I'll make 1/3 this year as last and all of my friends who own businesses as well are the same or worse. I'd say we will borrow or print 2.5-3 trillion in 2009... Did I mention I laid off my admin assist who made $55,000 and all those taxes both payroll and fed she is not paying any longer? Forget about the GM's Multiply that by 10 million small businesses and see how little the Feds will rake in.

What exactly would you have the republicans do in this situation? They don't have the votes to make anything happen, and they don't have the votes to stop the dems from passing this pork bill. Given that fact, they did the right thing: they said "if you're going to do this, you're doing this without our support so that when the public realizes how they're being fleeced, they know who to hold accountable". I don't see any problem with their actions.

I agree with ya on the repubs basically behaving like dems in terms of spending while pretending to be fiscally conservative / small government.

You wish. The last time republican recklessness put us into this kind of economic situation they were shut out of power for 20 years. Hell, the only reason Eisenhower won was because he was Eisenhower, and he wasn't much of a Republican, certainly not by today's standards.

Whether it works or not, what the public wants to see is the govt making an effort to turn things around. If things get worse, and I suspect they will, people will remember who stood in the way, and will vote accordingly.

Republicans, for example, had only 16 senators in 1937, largely because they opposed the New Deal.

So, uhh, go ahead, keep pitching the same stuff that put us into this mess, about how cutting federal taxes will stimulate the economy when the lower half of incomes barely pay any federal taxes at all, (more trickledown, yeh, that's it!) tell us all about how the sacred market will correct itself if teh ebil govt will just get out of the way, about how those ebil soshul programs are the root of it all, even as people run out of resources and unemployment insurance... as what's left of their retirement investments go down the sewer and their employers close their doors when their loans are called...

Yeh, I know, repubs are desperate to detach themselves from the disaster they've brought us, blame the cleanup crew. It won't work, of course, but when it's all you've got, it's all you've got...
