i forgot to mention ...
i signed up for it

i can sell it if i win ... i already have a better CPU :p

come on ... are these guys thinking *promotion* ?

i know they set this one up months ago ... but how hard is it to PROMOTE HD2900xt
i could do ... better .. by myself

with a good team ... there is no limit to the creativity ... they need to break free of "tech advertising"

as a 'consumer' i know what "stupid" is
-and this "promotion" is St00pid ... bad timing

'negativity' pervades AMD ... they are doomed to repeat this with Barcelona
--will they 'hang on' ... or will 'someone' with better sense and great marketing buy them ?

Stay tuned ...for the Next Episode:

Last I heard Sapphire was NOT amd, they're a separate company manufacturing video cards based on AMD's GPU. What does their marketing have to do with AMD's product launch?

Reading between the lines it looks like Sapphire wants out of the ATI board partner business and into the mainboard business. But that's too much of a conclusion to draw from just a silly contest/survey.

If that's the case I can't say I blame them. All they've had was the dual pro card as a new product for 7 months while NV's partners are getting good margins on high end cards and good volume on low/midrange cards. And still no moneymakers (read: solid midrange and low end) from ATI after a disappointing round of midrange and lowend (read: X1600) round last year. The X1650XT was too little too late. Yeah, they're hurting.

OK you want a 'hint'

this is a *freebie* for amd ...

you want 100,000 rabid fans of HD2900xt
all screaming about how friggin' *awesome* the HD2900xt is ... absolutely clogging the forums with Rabid raving born-again AMD fanboys
--absolutely raging how cool it runs ... how there are NO IQ issues ... that the drivers are getting better day by day ... how *powerful* it is and how sexy it looks ...
and how much they just can't wait for Barcelona ... for the next SIX months

nvidia PR would be brushed aside ... they would just have to copy 'us'

... now really *think* about the 'how' ... the mechanics of a real launch and how to save this one

... and it would be 'done' within 2 weeks ... the "tidal wave" effects starting tomorrow ... -- with a simple announcement and Press Release
--no ads ... zero advertising costs

stay tuned

if you don't 'get it' by the time i am back from work

i may tell you

*exactly* what i thought ....

really ... no one gives a crap about AMD ...

and truthfully ... honestly ... neither do i

on the personal 'good news' front ... in my own little business, simply changing two lines of of the advertising has almost doubled the response to my service from that simple ad change
- i am learning after years ... and years ...

for what? so they can sell a bad product to the ignorant that has money? Wow thats genius.

If their product sux wtf is their marketing gotta do with it... R600 does suck comparing to a GTS let alone higher products... I just dont see why u gotta attack the marketing team at this point... Its like the marketers engineered the card...
They made a bad choice in the design with this product.... it happens with every company... lets hope they dont screw up again... thats all

You should look for reviews before posting stuff like that cause the R600 really outperforms the GTS in 55% of benchmarks and sometimes even reach almost GTX levels, so the ATi's goal to be competitive with the GTS is well done, late though.

I think he's referring to the other half of the scenarios, the outrageous power consumption, noise, heat, and rather buggy state of the architecture right now.

Personally, though, I wouldn't go so far as to say it sucks (atleast not yet). That's just my opinion, tho.

hey is *anybody* signing up for the free Sapphire give away ?

http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/vista/vistaentryform.php

a complete vista gaming rig witt AMD 5000+ and xfired x1950p is nothing to be sneezed at [appears to be xfired]
actually now that i think about it ... i hope not you don't fill it out ... better 'chances' for me ...
and i AM gonna pass my idea on to AMD even though i am SURE they don't have the sense to go for it

GO VERTICAL WITH VISTA!
What a SUCK promotion... they say it is vertical but they don't say it shoots you straight - vertically - into the ground
:Q

:D

seriously ... i would not mind promoting the HD2900xt ... because i would like to have one myself ;)

I think their problem is dishonesty, saying the delay is due to their desire to launch simultaneously but now we all know the real problem is the 2900s are having serious performance issues. gaging reviewers to shut them up isn't the right way to handle this while pretending there is no performance problem with these parts. they gonna loose their credibility if they keep up with this types of deceit in future launches.

I think their problem is that they don't listen to their customers or all the noise on the web. The web is a free marketing tool to pool information from. They should of known there was going to be a back ash if the card came out to be a disappointment. Like others said, where is the familiy? Where is the 65m 2600?

Like I said before, AMD would of been better off coming to my front door and pissed on my feet.

the *solution* is for AMD to give away 100,000 HD2900xts ... ;)
- i believe that would reverse the negative buzz ... by my calculation the entire promotion would cost about $25M

think about it ... coke gives away free samples ... they are SURE of their product
... Heck even MS gives away thousands of copies of Vista

ok ... good idea but too *radical* for the dummies

... anyone can run with it now :p
--even Sony ;)

That's your solution???? Jeebus. High-end video cards aren't popular enough to be giving them away in those numbers and expect consumers to pick em up after they gain popularity. You would never close the gap after giving away that many freebees. That and the average user couldn't use a 2900XT in their computer anyways. It's a pain to install for the average user and most own Dell and HPs ;/ Coke can give away free samples because people already like coke. They're not hurting for business, and it's cheap and easy (just drink?).

coke gives away New product
--MS gives away Vista ... worthe hundreds of dollars ... and thousands of copies to generate a *buzz*

it's a 'contest' ... dude
AMD "used to" have fans :p

you enter your system rigs ... watch AMD advertising Videos and answer a questionnaire with random questions to make sure you were paying attention
--and of course the cards would go *only* to people with 'suitable' rigs ... each applicant would get a confirmation and the 'losers' would get a coupon ... the PS, CPU and RAM would have to be "suitable" for the HD2900xt but the 'details' would not be announced to minimize cheating.

i won't go into all the details .. but there would be a follow-up questionnaire at 30, 60 and 90 days ... after that [and probably when r650 is out] the card is theirs to keep

who wouldn't do that for a $400 GPU ?

after all everyone "likes" video cards
--it isn't a "high-end" card but it would whet the appetite for a "real" one HD2950xtx

it is much better to give them away then to throw them away ... there would be a "tie in" with Barcelona .. of course

--and this 25M promotion is a 40M tax write off ;)

imagine the PR release

"the New AMD is announcing a new contest to give away 100,000 HD2900xts"
:Q

i know they can't imagine it

if they want to downsize it ... give 10,000 away ... $2.5M total costs to AMD ... $4M tax write off ... it creates at least 8K new fans instantly ... 10K less sales for their competitor ... the cards are 'counted' as "sold" ...
... IF the HD2900xt is a decent card

i bet nvidia would do it they needed to ...
--after all it is the ultimate in viral marketing ... and kinda 'legit' ... too

Oddly, I'm having trouble finding 2900XT's at/near MSRP. I've ordered from two different locations at that price and been told that they are out of stock, the last with no ETA (?!). Newegg and ZZZ prices have both risen to around $425 and have been for days. Perhaps this is just initial demand, but then how can the launch be said to have failed? The product's only a bust to the "informed" enthusiast community, which is probably only a tiny portion of the market for those cards. Is AMD just coasting on their brand name?

perhaps the supply really is not good ... or the demand so-so, like the launch .... this is Day 4 after the Launch

i personally really don't care ... AMD can continue on exactly as it has been doing
--losing money and customers

i am not trying to sell them anything ... anymore ... there is *nothing*in it for me

*all* i wanted to do was ILLUSTRATE that "anything" is better than what they are doing now

a real marketing team would come up with a really good promotion [not mine :p] - --unlike the current stupidity that is Sapphire's.

i was *hoping* that i could prod 'you guys' into suggesting some things that might work ;)
--instead of being all alone with my silly little promotion
... i am not a "professional marketer" .. i just worked with brilliant promotions people and simply reused and repackaged one of their successful ideas

it works at the deepest level ... primal ...

a gift ?!? free?!?!! for me?!!?!
thank-you ... your product is wonderful

:gift:

TEN thousand of these born-again fans hitting the forums ... worldwide ... singing the praises of AMD ... and EXCITED for Barcelona's launch

... imagine 100,000 rabid AMD fans on the forums :p
... and potentially another 100,000 more customers for Barcelona - with enclosed "dollars off" coupon when it launches ... all for 25M$ and a 40M tax write off

OMG ! what did i do?
:Q

now that i really think about it ...
--is is a *terrible idea* ... worst of all, it could work

sorry ... the cat is out of the bag and she won't go back in
