I'm amazed that little radiator cools the card so well. I guess I may have over built my system with 1080mm worth of push/pull radiator lol. Cool and quiet with zero throttling.

Nice performance advantage over 780ti SLI, though if you care about power usage, this card probably isn't for you. I suppose the premium price of this card is justified seeing as you're getting two water cooled 290x, but I still wouldn't buy it.

I think there is some throttling at @7 minutes in. Not a lot considering this card is full out.

Nice card. I think the AT & [h] review summaries said it nicely.

To that end the Radeon R9 295X2 is a beast, and that goes for every sense of the word. From a performance standpoint AMD has delivered on their goals of offering the full, unthrottled performance of a Radeon R9 290X Crossfire solution. AMD has called the 295X2 an “uncompromised” card and that’s exactly what they have put together, making absolutely no performance compromises in putting a pair of Hawaii GPUs on to a single video card. In a sense it’s almost too simple – there are no real edge cases or other performance bottlenecks to discuss – but then again that’s exactly what it means to offer uncompromised performance.
“Beastly” is just as fitting for the card when it comes to its cooling too. With a maximum noise level of 50dB the 295X2’s CLLC is unlike anything we’re reviewed before, offering acoustic performance as good as or better than some of the best high end cards of this generation despite the heavy cooling workloads such a product calls for. Which brings us to the other beastly aspect, which is the card’s 500W TDP. AMD has put together a card that can put out 500W of heat and still keep itself cooled, but there’s no getting around the fact that at half a kilowatt in power consumption the 295X2 draws more power than any other single card we’ve reviewed before.

You don't know gaming until you've achieved above 60 FPS on a 4K display at native resolution with full graphics settings in a game. This was by far the best experience we've ever had in BF4 at 4K.

BF4 with Mantle and crossfire just wipe the floor.


AMD has done a great job with this 295X2 video card. This is by far one of the best engineering builds AMD has done on a gamer level consumer video card. This is AMD's greatest achievement thus far for a gamer card in terms of build quality, thermal performance, and sound profile. That said, the price does seem slightly high, we would have rather have seen this around $1300. Granted, you pay for the best, and this certainly is the best from AMD.
 
Silverforce 11 play the video on heat and performance which is around 7 minutes long. Pay particular attention to the true card temp at the upper left hand corner and the max clock speeds. In the video the temp exceeded 100C. I also noticed when the GPU temp was at 71C the core was @925 to 935 which seems to support the throttling.

The temps are much higher than reported. Supposedly the software replicates a full out gaming stress test. Notice the card throttles down. I'll bet 2 water cooled r9 290xs with sufficient rad space would be much cooler and thus not throttle.
That's the surface temperature of the back of the board itself. Specifically, the VRMs which typically run lava hot on high end video cards anyhow. That is not the GPU temp.

I understand that and corrected my previous post. However, when the GPU temp reported was 70-71C what was the max core? @935. No throttling????:whiste:

Look this is an impressive card and my hat is off to AMD. The question was whether or not it can run full out without throttling. Perhaps the lower core clocks had something to do with the software running at the time. However it sure seems strange that when the GPU core reported temps got in the high 60s the core clock went down.

If I was using this card, I would install a push/pull dual fan setup on the radiator.

Do TPU say what load it is they put on the card in that video? They did something similar with the 290X and they jusrt called it an "app" :ninja:

I was wondering the same thing. Watching the VDDC droop makes it look like it's hitting the card really hard....Reminds me of a mining load.

It can throttle due to power consumption also. Each chip is limited to 250w. If they use Furmark, there is no way to stop it from hitting 250w and throttling under normal Powertune behavior.

I must admit that the Asetek 120mm Rad does a superb job at cooling. I just wonder whetehr or not it might get overwhelmed when the card is running flat out for a period of time.

IF I would buy this card I would invest in a good set of 120 mm fans in PUSH/PULL just to give the radiator a chance to exhaust all that heat if running full out.

Yeah i would put two very good fans too even thou it seems to be great in stock config. Amazed

Doesn't the driver tell the GPU to throttle under such applications like furmark to prevent damage to the GPU components? I know Nvidia does this. Furmark is GPU suicide IMO and shouldn't be used.

edit: plus, very convenient to pick a chart where it's being compared against single gpu configs. Never saw you complain about top CF or SLI power consumption. Also, it's a card for enthusiasts, people who overclock and buy only high end stuff.

I'd also suggest that if you are spending over £1000 on a graphic card , you really don't care about how much electricity the thing is using

Anyone know when these are out in the UK ? Just got my bonus and have cash to burn at the moment

So you telling me it draws 275W+ on cables and PSU specced for 150W? That sounds like a really good idea 😛

Also I see both the HD7990 and GTX690 in the charts. Both dual GPU solutions.
