good god. can you imagine what america will be like 100 years from now if this sh!t continues?

There will be no America in 100 years. They'll erase the borders, and will make America join the newly merged North and South American contitents. After all, there shouldn't any countries because its so racist. We should all be part of the global humanity.

and then there'll be England.

woot.

Yup.

I remember I used to get hit with these long sticks by the teachers if I make any mistake or wasn't paying attention, sit in the corner with both hands raised for hours, my old gameboy taken away which was never returned to me, etc.
and these parents are complaining red ink is too stressful

oh ogd, they'll kill themselves over in china. when i was little, the teacher would punish me for being left handed...

I used to take these swimming classes when I was a kid

the way they teach you how to swim is put you in the water... and when you try to grab the edge, they STEP on your hands... while I'm choking on the water and tears are coming down my eyes from fear
I used to be scared to go to that class everytime. I really don't think Americans understand...

Now *thats* education. No wonder when you go to any technical conventions like ISSCC it's all Asian now.

"We're No. 2," said Diana Hicks, chair of the public-policy school at the Georgia Institute of Technology. "When it comes to science and technology, the U.S. has never been No. 2."

I don't like the way red looks on the papers I grades, so I tend to grade papers in another color. I also circle missed questions, rather than putting an X through them.

: ) Amanda

You should'nt be grading anything.:p

how the hell do people who have problems with red ink remain stable enough overall to make it through life on a daily basis?

I know of a couselor at an elementary school in the area that had all yellow chairs removed from use as the color was too traumatic for the children.

Oh, for the love of Christ.
Just when I thought they'd finally see the light and reinstate corporal punishment, they've decided not to hurt anyone's feelings with the color of ink.
The only thing more pathetic than the argument is the principal who stood and listened to it.
Disgruntled Parent: "Mrs. Smith hurt my Timmy's feelings by using red ink, what are you going to do about it?"
Principal Shilala:"Get out of my face before I slap ya, lady".
/argument

We need to get rid of public schools altogether and let parents choose. Let these lowest common demoniator children flock with one another and flouder in mediocrity, while children who parents want demanding and excellence have that school option too. This whole idea of educating children the same way is stupid anyway. Some children respond differnetly to differnet stimuli which is impossible to regiment in a public school setup.

I just think kids are getting dumber these days, and this PC nonsense is getting out of hand.

I could manage, but it'd be a logistical NIGHTMARE for a public system which has to provide transportation.

The X thing, I have heard, however. In fact, I've had teachers that PUT CHECKMARKS next to the wrong answers. And that was in 6th grade... In 5th grade, it had been checkmarks for right answers, X's for wrong. My god we were confused.

There is a logical reason for not X'ing stuff, though. Whatever was under the X becomes much more brain-cycle consuming to read.

It would also give parents something real to complain about, since they clearly have to complain about something.

How do these parents survive in the real world? Presumably they have jobs and go shopping, etc. How do they ever get through a whole day without falling apart because of the wrong colors, "office games", and so on?

Boggles the mind.

Yeah red ink was chosen for a reason. Now this pastel bullsh!t will barely even be visible. I loved it when I got compliments in red ink because it stands out so well. Sooner or later we'll get to a point where making any corrections will be considered too stressful and unaccepting of people's work. As it is I see such horrible spelling and grammar in students' papers and transcripts - and this is in professional school. I can't wait to see how pathetic students' spelling and grammar will be in 20 years when my kids enter college.

Okay, that's the other extreme. How well did that teach you to swim BTW?

I hate this country sometimes. I really, really hate it. Probably more than I hate France.
