It's extremely sad to see just how uninterested/incapable people are in making new generation console games.

Please tell me what was so great about the first year of the PS2. I dunno what planet youre on, this has been one of the best generations ever.

You don't listen either then, he asked you what was go great about year 1 of the PS2 and you completey ignored him.

I had a PS2 at launch the first year, launch especially, was pretty dismal.

I'm w/BD2003 though, this generation has been amazing thus far and will (hopefully) continue the trend.

And btw, the Xbox360 has been out for 3 years and some change, and the PS3 and Wii have been out for 2 years and some change.

You seem very unimformed.

I wonder if there is some airborne virus that results in a lack of reading comprehension - because I DID answer his question.

Did you even read what I wrote? Either of you? Please allow me to spend a moment putting in some fine print since somewhere along the line the point flew right past you and this irritates me extremely.

Translation: Complaint. Direct comparison between current generation consoles and the PS2, using the PS2 purely as an example, not of quality of games, but simply of popularity of video game creation and a direct comparison to library size. The ONLY thing being compared here is the size of the video game library, not quality of content or any additional criteria.

It's extremely sad to see just how uninterested/incapable people are in making new generation console games.

Translation: Statement. Appearances suggest that smaller game companies have either moved to PC/Online markets or been driven into the ground by larger competition. Purely speculatory with no referenced facts.

Oh lets be serious here. Sure comparing the PS2 alone to all 3 systems was a bit of an exaggeration, but it gets the point across. If you really want to start nit picking logistics in an attempt to make me appear ignorant, then lets play a little game. I know the facts behind what I'm trying to state, do you?

Lets do a direct comparison:
PS2 - 240 titles approximately 16 months from launch (circa 2002)
PS3 - 110 titles approximately 24 months from launch (circle 2006) Only *19* of these 110 were released in 2006.

The sheer volume of interest in game creation is my point of interest. And before you start whining about how difficult it is to create games on the PS3 and the 360, while I honestly find it hilarious that they shot themselves in the foot with complex architecture, the downright reality is there are fucking $3 Burger king bumper car games listed in the PS3/360 library that had that kind of low-spec, easy-to-create interest been around for the PS2 it's library would be significantly higher.

I'm referencing purely from a logistics standpoint, and that is where I am horribly disappointed with current generation games. You can continue to be ignorant and defend them all you want, the reality is in the numbers.

you say "lets be serious" in your first line, but then you try to conveniently say you don't want to mention that ps3/360 games are more complex and difficult to create?

well the serious matter and fact is that they are. PS3 games and Xbox360 games take much more money and time to create than first gen PS2 games did.

and out of those 240 titles you mention, how many of those are worth playing? do you not realize how many shovelware games were out on the PS2?

i mean hell, look at these numbers (going from the VGChartz numbers)

Total games listed on their DB:

Xbox360: 533
PS3: 403
Wii: 748

And you know what, the majority opinion would say that the Wii has the LEAST amount of "good" games, which goes back to how this whole thread started, that the wii has a ton of crappy games out for it currently.

So let's see, the Wii has WAY more games out total than the other consoles, and WAY less "good" games than the other consoles. I don't see why you are so stuck on the TOTAL # of games in a consoles library.

The reason Wii has so many total games out for it is because the cost of development is a fraction of what it costs to develop for the 360 and PS3, and yes, that is SERIOUS and facts as you would put it.

The Wii has a ton of shovelware, and the PS2 also had TONS and TONS of shovelware, especially at it's birth.

The internet wins this race. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo should stop making consoles and focus on making flash-based games on the internet.

On that note I'm not going to argue one bit. I don't own a Wii, myself. In my home we have a PS3 and three 360's. My sister and mother, however, both own Wii's. Every game I've played on the Wii does not seem like the type of game I would ever actually buy - but things like the trademark Nintendo Harvest Moon series keep my sister AND mother buying them year after year because that's their thing. Saying those games are really good/bad is arguable, perhaps you can point me to better examples.

And your numbers seem accurate, but how many of those games never saw US stores? I find it both fascinating and slightly irritating that a TON of titles I am interested in I have to get overseas because they apparently don't appeal to the US crowd enough to release here, whereis the PS2-era systems were a lot more accessible and you would see many more imports translated over.

I seriously doubt MS is really losing gamers because they put out scene it or viva pinata last year.

When did I say that? I stated that MS and Sony may turn in that direction, not that they have fully switched over. They both realize how much money nintendo is making, and I seriously doubt the execs running those gaming divisions are not seriously considering going the same route.

The only things I play on my Wii now is the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones, and old console emulators... :(

I want to get the Twighlight Princess. Which is the better version - Wii or Gamecube?

I like the Gamecube one a lot better. Honestly there is not much of a graphics difference and I've found it a load easier to play and handle using a Gamecube controller instead of the Wiimote + nunchuck. They can just be a pain when it comes to swinging the sword :disgust:

I like the Wii one WAY better. The difference between fishing and using the bow on the Wii version makes the Gamecube version seem like some sort of joke.

Does the Wii version give you the option of using the GC controller instead?

I don't know though...I kind of liked the Zapper usage in the "Ranger" levels in LCT. (Not sure if that control style applies to Wii TP though.)

Sadly it doesn't give you the option to use the Gamecube controller. If it had, they would have had an instant winner on their hands :D
