I'm just repeating what I've heard in the news and what a guy said to me who was a Major in the US army, is now a VP for a major wall Street firm, and was an operations manager at Amazon. He said the atmosphere at those warehouses can be rough, for a lot of the employees, but especially the core workers, because of reasons I listed above.

Want to call him a loser too?

I'm sorry that triggered you.

Dbag.
Lol you're clearly the triggered one.

How do people say that and then call another poster a dbag for their opinion. You're the snowflake here cutie.

Err I go to bathroom way more than twice a day.
I would guess with 2 15 minute breaks plus a lunch half hour that is 3 times within a work shift that you're expected to go?

So roughly once ever 2.5 hours? But actually that's not correct since I presume one would go before the shift starts.

Not sure what the typical work shifts are, if we're talking full 8 hour days or what.

Depending on the item, Prime often offers a no-rush shipping option. This may or may not slow delivery to more than 4 days.

I'd like to pay less shipping, or get a small rebate on my purchase to have everything put into one box, even if takes longer. It's dumb buying a bunch of small stuff, and having it sent in three deliveries. That goes for everyone, not just amazon.
Prime now has an Amazon Day, so you can pick 2 days of the week for stuff to show up. Because they have so many distribution centers, this doesn't guarantee it'll all come in one box.

I just don't like the waste. It takes fuel and materials to send a package. It might make some sense with amazon due to their logistics setup, and sticking stuff in one box could actually be the wasteful option, but I've gotten it from smaller companies also. Order enough to get free shipping, some of the stuff's on backorder, so they send part of it, then get the rest a week later. I'd rather see it in one box, and we could split the money saved between us.

Another option would be getting a mystery item with your delayed order. Get something that someone else returned added to your box. Probably would be junk, but you might get something cool too. Make it fun, and everyone wins.

I never said slackers don't exist, but apparently it's tough for some people to wrap their heads around the possibility that at the same time, some companies can treat their employees like robots as well.

Also, just because you are at a warehouse job doesn't make you a sub standard worker. It's easy to dehumanize them. I worked a lot of restaurant jobs in my teens, early twenties. Being a busboy or dishwasher is manual labor too. Lots of really hard workers for the most part.

and I never said they are all terrible employees but a good chunk are. Like I said my girl works one of these type of jobs. She made it to supervisor in 6 months because everyone around her sucks. Now she comes home and tells me about all the crap she deals with from them. They come in high/drunk, don't come in at all, show up late, disappear, work like a snails ass, screw orders up, wreck fork lifts, apparently can't even count because they got wildly different numbers 3 separate times one day doing inventory, oh almost forgot they steal stuff from work and other employees. Thats why employers treat employees a certain way, make rules for every little thing, push them to work, etc. I'm self-employed and finding good help is not easy, a good chunk of americans are lazy and want something for nothing.

I agree with you on the waste. They have an option for "Amazon Day" or some such - basically an option when ordering to get all your orders delivered on a single day of the week. We tried it out but found it didn't reduce the number of boxes and orders often showed up in 2-3 days anyway. I think they are so geared towards getting everything out as quickly as possible it would actually be a big rework to change it.

I don't know where you guys live that 2-day is so unrealistic. In North Jersey 2 days is about the max amount of time I wait. Once in a while, things come same day even with 2 day shipping selected.

My buddy works for Amazon robotics so I am guessing the conditions are a little different. He loves his job....
I had a trial for prime in January, and the 2 day shipping is overrated when it also takes 2 days of order processing. I'm not in the middle of nowhere–I'm outside of Boston. Plus, I wasn't using the streaming since I generally use Netflix, so I cancelled the prime trial. If I need something right away, I'll find it locally. For other stuff, I'll wait till my cart has enough for free shipping.

What are you ordering that takes 2 days to process? Just curious. I've occasionally seen some weird shipping delays when it's an oddball product but ~90% of our stuff comes 2 days after ordering, 8% comes in 1 and 2% is delayed. I've ordered stuff on Saturday and gotten it on Sunday. (and I know that will vary by geographic area)

There will definitely be your bad apples, and you are going to hear those stories more than about Jane who shows up and just gets the job done, it's not exciting. I mean if someone shows up drunk to work, just fire them on the spot, or if they just slack off all day. That goes for any job really - I saw people get fired at restaurants for just not being able to hack it but most worked out. Some people will be lazier, but the operations manager at Amazon guy told me it was basically like a blanket rule to the point it was oppressive to all of them. Plus around here, $15/hour ain't getting you much of a life, and it's hard work if you work hard.

It was a few items - some coin cell batteries, a humidifier, a CD; all of them shipped by Amazon.

Free shipping and instant gratification are extremely wasteful.

I don't expect merchants to incentivize consumers to make more efficient choices (i.e. Amazon Day); but as Exterous pointed out, it would be nice for the Amazons of the world to get better at environmental impact. Recently they've switched to a paper padded mailer, which ostensibly is recyclable. (So were the plastic padded mailers, except that in the U.S., plastic mostly goes to the landfill).

In the example you gave, an online retailer could give the option to minimize the number of deliveries (ideally all in one box), but they rarely do. Amazon sometimes has this option when you're checking out a large cart, but they really don't because items often ship from a variety of warehouses. Although extra shipments can be costly for smaller vendors, it also guarantees a high level of service. You prevent long delays (even if the customer is OK with that); and in the worst case, you prevent one backordered/discontinued item from blocking the entire order.

Funny she tells me about the 3 out of 14 that are great one of those 3 drinks beer in his car on breaks ha. She lets him slide because he does the hardest job there and hes good and fast at it. Shes had to let others go because of the drinking and showing up high though. Shes got a couple other decent people but in the end complains about most of them. She tells me about all of them to to the point I know a lot of there names and what they look like.

I drink coffee water all day if I can't piss more than 3 times a shift they can forget about it and I'll go down the street and get another shitty job. Don't see how they can push it if I was a good worker I know my girl can't afford to lose any of her good workers. Yeah she comes home exhausted but shes like me she likes hard work. $15/hr is perfectly fine where I'm at.

Enjoy. Prime has tons of good free content. The Grateful Dead documentary series was fantastic. Mile, mile and a half. The Expanse, great sci fi series. The Boys, interesting take on superheroes. Tons more
I spent around 15 minutes looking for something I wanted to watch. Most I'd never heard of. Finally I saw "Audrey Hepburn Magical" ... it's a documentary. It's pretty darn good. Movie stars, it's not really an easy life. She had it tough during WW II, good family though.

So, here's what I'm thinking: There must be a better way of finding content in Amazon Prime Video that I want to see than scrolling using my OK or --> buttons on my TCL Roku TV remote. What is it???????

There is search, but I agree it is a mess.

They should sort that out. Couldn't take a lot of resources to launch an online system to find Prime Video content that interests you. I'll look into it, I guess... If Amazon hasn't done it I'd think someone else would. There are a number of 3rd party online sites digging into Amazon's territories. I use one or two sites that evaluate Amazon reviews to see what proportion are legit. Honey and Capitalone Shopping can save you money...

And then I remember the opening to the movie Castaway. Just think of what the working mentality of FedEx is in their time is everything workplace environment. Not justifying this, but it is a culture long-bred in the human culture to screw one another over.
dont remember this.
tom hanks didnt look stressed at the beginning of the movie.

After having pretty much perfect delivery for lots of items, apparently an order that was supposed to be delivered today went to the wrong depot or something so it's now delayed. So those robots, I mean workers, do make mistakes.

I did go to Lowe's today for some items I would have normally bought at Amazon. Still trying to slowly rely less on Amazon to be more balanced. Got a package from REI today for bike tire patch kits and some backpack straps I also would have normally ordered from Amazon. Once Amazon becomes a habit, it's tough to break, it's just instinct to go there first.

my 1st instinct is ebay. (cheaper)
then walmart (store pickup). less hassle to return.
then amazon (and i have Prime)

You can return amazon stuff here at pretty much any Kohl's around, and they box it up for shipping too.

I personally use amazon as my last resort. There's lot of oddball things you simply can't buy anywhere else so I go there. But if it's something I can buy somewhere else I'll buy there first. Amazon IS super convenient though...

Not Tom's character, but the Russians were going through a shock and aw at having to work like FedEx wanted them to work--a pace that scared them.
