Retarded viewpoint. If you're afraid of technology, look at the japanese/ korean culture first. They get the first dibs on everything and they're still normal. Then it filters down to us.. so this is just fear mongering.. OMG giving a baby an ipad will hurt their brain development.

The opinions they are vomiting are basically worthless bullshit. Yes overuse of technology especially for kids is bad but there is no harm from exposure to technology and learning anything you can about the universe nevermind just technology.

So overall just make sure your kid gets exposure to other human individuals, lots of pets and animals, and the outdoors in addition to messing around with technology and intellectual content like books, music, museums, documentaries, and any other learning experiences.

I was riding my bike and the cops had a stop check down the road.
As I was passing them, I was about to give them a "good mornin"
One of the cops yelled at me to put a helmet on.
I was like wtf.... then lol.. and thought man if only they knew I had no brakes too

That made me lol. Thanks.

perfectly normal you say?

They peaked with your generation, right?

With him as the very crest. We should all feel honored to have lived at this time, and set ourselves to mourn it's passing.

10000 yrs of human civilization, and Steve Jobs brought it all down. Shame.

Keep in mind another study just showed that thanks to all this sensory overload the average attention span is only 8 seconds.. yes EIGHT SECONDS. And the toolbags who skim over your post (I knew what you said) are prime examples of it when they have no idea how to understand your OP.

I started to read your post, then I got bored..

That is EXACTLY what they are saying if you had actually read the blog instead of just knee jerking into this "end of the world cause of ipads" hyperbole that everyone came into this with. The article calls out HEAVY USE multiple times. It doesn't say give a kid an ipad and they instantly are useless and scarred for life.

Yup.

And yet humanity has survived and done rather well since then. Youth will always be a problem - yet, never fatal.

Just let the kids be kids. No one cares about old people belly aching.

Yea like how eventually Greece was annexed in 146 BC. Those old people were just complainers. I'll bet if you fast forward 2000 years Greece is doing great. :awe:

The point that you're missing is that your definition of "socially stunted" will be completely irrelevant for that generation. So what if little Johnny has trouble making small talk with grandma at the dinner table or the clerk in the store? His world is evolving beyond such mundane, meaningless interaction with the proliferation of instant worldwide communications.

All that matters is how well he engages with other members of his generation. You can shake your head and gnash your teeth all you want but it doesn't change the fact that the world is changing and never coming back, and you'll be dead soon.

Looks like millenials are socially stunted already.

Study indicates they have issues today. And a new hot social media product, recording social events and then watching what you missed due to spending all your time on Facebook.

It looks like the title of that article should be something to the effect of 'millennials socialize differently'. It's pretty funny when CNBC (a bastion of old people if there ever was one) has an article talking about how 'kids these days' are less social because they are socializing with people through their phones instead of in-person. Why does it matter how people do it?

Sums it up pretty well.

It's all about Me!

Looks like it's time to break out this quote again:

The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise.

-Socrates

Adults never learn. The kids aren't suddenly so different, you are.

Screen addiction is real, IMO.

Gotta get me some of that High intensity blue light MMMmmmmm.

People barely use their phones early in the day, and use them more and more later in the day. To the extent that by the time you are going to sleep you are practically glued to the thing, and its keeping you awake.

The blue light is stimulating so I guess as you get more and more tired you look at the phone more and more.

Get out of bed and look at your phone first thing. ARgrlgrbglrgblrbglr my eyes!!!! DO NOT WANT.

Right? Right.

I bet there were a bunch of cranky old gits when the sink was invented.

"Yon youths of mineself are nary a moment away when thineselves bequeast upon yon same! Backst in mine own day, mineself and mine friend-selves didst spend many an hour traversing yon terrain of yore, achieving for mineself mine own water inside mine bucket!

In current days, the child-folk of this land spend nary a moment to turn a tap! Mayhaps yon generation of our siring willt be mankind's last."

On a more serious note, the up and coming generation is buggered because of the previous generation's incompetence. Someone had to have (not) raised the children, after all.

If demographics become an inverted pyramid they're also screwed.

We don't value whats important (family) and we value bullshit (tablets, so many tablets! my car is so cool!)

You know how you can tell that picture is bullshit?

The fact that OBEY is not some bullshit from the 2000s but has been around since the 1980s and shit.

The actual problem becomes when material things own us, instead of vice versa. And in this overconsumptive society, there are more opportunities to be owned; we are more overwhelmed by material technology than any time in modern history.

I notice that people are so used to reacting to electronic devices instead of acting upon their own instincts. Therefore they tend to talk at people instead of to them. When they do interact with real non-anon people, it's a selfish exercise with more reasons to argue than to have common ground. It's all so extreme without much moderation.

But I do know the problem can be corrected with enough discipline and focus and needs to be asap.

True. Technology is amazing for those with a thirst for knowledge. Technology isn't bad, just like guns aren't bad. How people use either determines their intent. If you are using your mobile device as a brain substitute, you likely won't have a functioning brain for very long.

To be honest, without porn and gambling, the Internet and subsequent technology wouldn't be as inexpensive or prolific. And while I would hope users of these devices are more apt for enrichment than the most baser carnal pleasures, we can't pass a law requiring it either.

That moment when someone spent more time looking at a picture posted about my car accident on facebook than I spent thinking about it and as soon as they met me the conversation was a verbal diarrhea of misunderstanding.

Not impressed with the linked article. There is prejudice about video gaming among people who don't game. For example, the average American watches about 21 hours of TV per week, and no one says this is a crisis. But if it's 21 hours of video games, it's an "addiction." This in spite of the fact that there can be both social and interactive aspects of video games, while watching TV is not social and is non-interactive. There is more social contact, and more brain stimulation, in gaming than there is with television, but no one bothers about television anymore because it's an accepted national pass time that goes back 70 years.

There's never much science behind these observations. The article reads as a series of quotes from "experts" with very little research mentioned. There's a reason why video game addiction isn't in the DSMIV and hasn't been officially designated as a disorder - because it's junk science.
