Who said anything about dark ages.

I am saying this new generation is going to be socially stunted.

The future will be one of a mime like glasshole incapable of speaking, pasty white ,round as a pool ball filled with fat goodness, with limited use of their fingers and suffering from poor cardiovascular health. Brain matter will probably shrink as computers slowly do more of the mental work for future generations.

The world is not ending, no one said that.

You do not seem to get it.

Every new generation is lamented by the old generation because X, Y, and Z.

There is no law that ensures every new generation is "better" than the last, but you can be sure that there is also no law that states that every new generation is worse than the preceding one.

I'm going to go by my opinion, that ebbs and flows in "goodness" of a generation has a lot more to do with how the preceding generation raised the newer generation, and that generally, the newer generation is almost always better by default on more issues than they are worse.

Or, just because newer generations may not have the same standard of living as the preceding generation at this time, it doesn't mean that the difference won't be made up by the newer generation being smarter than the previous generation. It's not a law that every generation is "better", but that the mistakes of the preceding generation can and will be negated by the newer generation, with the next generation being better than the previous.

You seem to think that just because "generation whatever you say sucks" is worse than the preceding, that the world is about to go into a new dark ages. I'm fairly certain that isn't going to happen.

Society has been around for 6,000 plus years. Am I correct? Nothing will change much. At least in our lifetime. In 2,000 years? Maybe.

By then I will be dead. :)

My generation is mostly assholes, the generation before is mostly assholes, and I suspect that the generations to come will be mostly assholes. The difference is in their preferred butt balm.

Actually that is wrong. The next generations kept getting better over the decades but it seems we reached some kind of peak and now a decline.

It's called entropy, we are no different than any other species that come and go.

It will be very interesting to see these new children grow up.

You make it sound like entropy is a bad thing. Methinks thou doth not know what that word means. I'm sure you know the dictionary definition means "the state of disorder of a system" but that does not a complete understanding of the situation make.

It's the first law of thermodynamics, dude, the fall of our species will always be accompanied by another species to compensate.

It's the observer effect, dude, if you meddle with society you're going to change it.

It's general relativity, dude, what seems like good society here may not be good society somewhere else.

*takes a really deep hit*

Most of the people on this thread probably grew up with a screen to their faces. The ability to reason and comprehend the significance of this is already lost on most. It is a huge problem, but with most people already being dumbed down to the point of serially electing Bushes and Clintons, its not going to matter too much because everyone will be too stupid to even see why it mattered in the first place.

Let's not forget that in America tag is too dangerous to play.
Banning all physical activity isn't helping.

i already see the effects of this all the time when going into a store and being helped by a cashier. many of them simply don't know how to hold simple small talk conversations or are just completely rude as if they are doing me a favor. i see it at the gym with all these young kids carrying their cell phones around and faces in their palms between sets instead of shooting the shit with people.

Keep in mind another study just showed that thanks to all this sensory overload the average attention span is only 8 seconds.. yes EIGHT SECONDS. And the toolbags who skim over your post (I knew what you said) are prime examples of it when they have no idea how to understand your OP.

You realize that even most 30 to 50 years olds today have terrible attention spans worth not even the shit from raccoons?

And keep in mind I have grown up with ADHD.

I also think a lot of people get defensive because this is how they are raising their children. Sticking a idevice in their hands a quickly as possible. Its a digital pacifier. If people actually read the article, you should be able to understand the implications of doing this.

Huge problem. Several things to blame. Fatties costing us so much money.

And I agree they will be socially stunted. It is pretty obvious already with this current generation. Who talks on the phone any more? All texts. And not even with proper grammar, spelling, or anything. Damn AOL chat lingo where it all started. So much communication is done digitally that people are losing the art of carrying on a conversation and being able to talk to strangers.

Can't wait to be the old man that refuses to wear a bicycle helmet.

I was riding my bike and the cops had a stop check down the road.
As I was passing them, I was about to give them a "good mornin"
One of the cops yelled at me to put a helmet on.
I was like wtf.... then lol.. and thought man if only they knew I had no brakes too
