I had one in Texas about a month ago and it was great. Since then, I try and get them when I am at a bar.

I really wished I had asked what they used (all topshelf stuff) and tried to make my own last night.

1 part Skyy Vodka
1 part Captain's Morgan Silver Spiced Rum
1 Part Tanquery
1 Part Jose Quervo Tequila
1.5 part pineapple juice
Splash of Coke-a-Cola
Lemon Slice

It wasn't bad, but not as good as the one in Texas. I know I forgot the Triple Sec, which will be rectified tonight.

And I was wondering if any experience drinkers had any recomendations like really switching to Grey Goose Vodka would help. Thanks

I let ya all know how the triple sec helps.

UPDATE 6-30

Bought Grey Goose and Patron.
Now I think I need a better triple sec.

UPDATE 7-1

Bought Lougen's (I know I didn't get that right) Triple Sec
Bacardi 151
Bacardi Solara
el jimadore (which is better than Patron IMO)

I think the drinks keep getting worse.

Update 7-7

all right, I tried making my own sweet and sour. Once with fresh lemons and once with lemon juice. Both recipes off the net.

Neither helped. Although, it did start tasting sweeter (like an ice tea should), when I started adding more sugar straight to the LI ice tea.

Now, tonight I am goin to just go get cheapa** stuff and it hopefully mixes better.

Use sweet and sour, not pineapple joice. Also, why are you using spiced rum?

Replace pinapple juice with sour mix.

Available at most stores with a good selection of liquors... same stuff used in Whiskey sours.

1 part vodka
1 part tequila
1 part rum
1 part gin
1 part triple sec
1 1/2 parts sweet and sour mix
1 splash Coca-Cola®

Mix ingredients together over ice in a glass. Pour into a shaker and give one brisk shake. Pour back into the glass and make sure there is a touch of fizz at the top. Garnish with lemon.

Edit-There's no reason to waste good liquor on a mixed drink like this. Just use well liquor.

Would 5-0 work for the vodka, rum, and gin? Find some cheap triple-sec (arrow?) and cheapest tequila? Would it still taste okay? Otherwise thats way too expensive to make yourself except for the l33test of ATOT ("I ONLY DRINK GREY GOOSE")

I don't know, I had one at this lesser bar the other day, and thought it tasted bad.

I did have it one with sweet and sour mix. And I do agree tasted better than the pineapple juice that was recommended to me by a friend.

What do you consider good rum?

Thanks

it probably tasted bad because they used a pre-mix instead of real stuff. or used different liquor instead of what is usually made. or watered it down etc.

He made right in front of me, and only label I recognized was Stolikv's Vodka (the cheap stuff from wal-mart)

I usually use:

1 part Grey Goose
1 part Tanqueray No. 10
1 part Patron Silver
1 part Appleton Estate Rum
1 part simple sugar
1/2 part Cointreau
1/2 part Grand Marnier
1 splash Chambord
1 splash fresh lime juice
1 splash fresh lemon juice
1 splash Coca-Cola

Most people say that its a waste if you use anything better than well-liquor, but I beg to differ. The individual flavor that each liquor brings to this mix should be savored and enjoyed (the only reason why i drink alcohol). Obviously if you wanna chug and get drunk, use cheaper liquor and replace rum with Bacardi 151 rum.

LONG ISLAND MILKSHAKE

Collins Glass

1 shot Vodka
1 shot Rum
1 shot Gin
1/2 shot Tequila
1/2 shot Triple Sec
4 oz Crushed Ice
2 oz Cream
4 Sugar cubes
1 shot Creme de Cacao
2 drop Vanilla Extract

In a large blender cup, add ice, sugar
cubes, creme de cacao, vanilla extract
(optional), and the cream or Half & Half.
Mix for no more than 5-10 seconds. Then
add the alcoholic beverages in no
particular order, then hit the "frappe" or
"whip" button on the blender for 15-20
seconds, or until you can see that all the
ingredients are well-blended, but before
you over-blend and start the ice melting
too fast. Serve in a tall pre-chilled Tom
Collins or similar tall iced-tea glass. No
garnish required, serve with a large-diameter straw.

That sounds good.

I used Grand Marnier last night as triple sec. It still wasn't perfect, but better. Are there any other substitutes, any huge noticable differences (like between sweet and sour mixers).

I also tried Sauza Tequila and replaced the CM silver spice rum with Bicardi Rum. not bad.

Thanks, keep the recomendations coming.

Well, I bought the Patron and Grey Goose last night. And ended up with...

1 part Patron
1 part Grey Goose
1 part Tanqueray (I don't know if it's No.10)
1 part Bicardi Superior
1 part Grand Marnier
1.5 Sweet and Sour
1 splash of coke
1 lemon slice

and I think it turn out worse than before.
Should I try Bicardi 151 instead?
Would the Cointreau help mellow out the flavor?
And what's Chambord?

OH, woes is me, what am I doing wrong??
