Pillars of Eternity looks interesting.

Oh, and HOMM3. Not because of the widescreen HD but because of the Steam multiplayer.

From the Depths looks cool, as well.

Killing Floor 2 is what I'm looking forward to most.

Also Cyberpunk 2077 but it doesn't sound like it will come out this year.
 
For sure buys at release, barring terrible reviews/problems:

Batman: Arkham Knight
Just Cause 3
The Witcher 3

Lot of other stuff looks good, but not $40+ good. Will wait for reduced prices on a lot of games. Anything Ubisoft, will wait for $10 or less and months of patches.

Looks a lot better than 2014 though. Barely bought anything last year.

Oh, and I hope Oculus comes out this year! Then will buy more racing games.

Already have Witcher 3 pre-ordered as well as Star Citizen and Pillars of Eternity as part of the crowd funding. Beyond that, I was hoping for either a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game, but that's wishful thinking.
 
Not much. I only play single player RPGs and FPSs and if you remove the indies and the TBAs and the multiplayer . . . . not much.
 
Yea, lots of games, none of them really grab me at first glance. Glad to see a few strategy
and RPG games. Really want to like Witcher 3, but I have the first 2 games and just could not get into either. Somehow, I just cant identify with the protagonist. Interested in Battlefront, but only if it has some kind of decent single player game. Just dont have the skills anymore for online shooters.

I'd like to say "Deus Ex Universe" but really I've mentally written off all games which attempt to make decent modern non-consolized sequels (or "reboots") to past PC Golden Age era games without steering them in a "casual" direction. If it turns out well then I'll be pleasantly surprised, but right now I just have a gut feeling that DX:HR was a one-off fluke for Square Enix (especially since "Deus Ex: The Fall" and Thief reboot). The gaming industry has in general picked up that nasty Hollywood malaise of remaking the same thing over and over - often badly - just a few years apart partly to hide a chronic lack of modern originality / creativity. "GTA 5, MGS 5, Batman 11, AC 8 & 9, CoD 12". Sigh. Looking through my games collection (of hundreds), I can't find any game (Oblivion & Skyrim aside) that has a number greater than "3" in the title. About time we saw some standalone fresh AAA games that didn't have to be franchised to death. One reason I liked Dishonored is that it wasn't buried under a mound of cash-in sequels.

Out of that list in OP's PCGamer link, I'm looking forward to Star Citizen, Pillars of Eternity & Torment: Tides of Numenera, Syberia 3 & Broken Age part 2. Grim Fandango as well if all they do is update the GFX and clunky input / inventory interface without changing the style, story or soundtrack much (if at all). Cradle, SOMA, Blackmore's Band, Satellite Reign, Grey Goo & The Black Glove all look interesting too. Also hope Larian studio's maintain the quality and general "feel" of Divinity Original Sin in future games.

A collection of leaked images revealed the setting for the next Assassin’s Creed game: Victorian London! It’s an excellent fit for AssCreed and we already have very clear opinions about what Ubi should and shouldn’t do with it. Most of all we hope it won’t slip out with all the technical problems that Assassin’s Creed Unity had. Will Ubi’s strict annual launch schedule claim another victim, or will Victory be a rainy, smoggy return to form for the series?

The Fall was a mobile game going desktop last minute but there I go making excuses for them again. HR director's cut commentary is where I draw the optimism from.
I have the vanilla edition but I watched/listened to all of the commentary on a Youtube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg2kG-W5xo8

Tons of insider perspective, they kept coming back day after day to record it. Seems genuine, they explain many decisions and limitations they had to deal with, even drop a few F bombs in the process. After watching all of it, I just don't see these guys making a sub par sequel.

Edit: Okay, just l saw a gameplay vid for Lost Ark. I have a 1a on my list now. That game looks like Diablo III on steroids.

So, for me it would be:
- Open world action: none, don't like the genre
- Action: Star Citizen
- FPS: none, don't like the genre (though I'm mildly curious about Star Wars Battlefront, because... Star Wars)
- RPG: my preferred genre: Pillars of Eternity, Tides of Numenara, Mount&Blade 2, Blackguards 2. And why is HoMM3 here anyway?
- Action RPG: none
- 2d shooters: none
- Fighting games: none
- Strategy: My 2nd favorite genre: Massive Chalice, Unsung Story, Galactic Civilizations 3, curious about Caribbean!, Worlds of Magic, Might & Magic Heroes 7
- Adventure: used to love this genre but now, meh: Grim Fandango remastered (because I never played the original)
- Exploration: none
- MMO: used to be my favorite genre, but 320219 WoW clones killed all my interest in the genre: none
- Platform: don't care
- Puzzle: none
- Sport: don't care
- SIM: curious about Star Trek Excalibur
- Racing: don't care

And from all these my most expected for the year would probably be Pillars of Eternity.

I stopped listening to the hype about games about five years ago after disappointment after disappointment. While some of these games look good, I'm not interested until I see a demo or gameplay videos.

Except for Just Cause 3, and maybe the Mad Max game which is being made by the JC devs. JC2 was just too much fun.

I think that's why I don't understand "gamers". I don't follow any gamer news at all so I just buy games I find interesting/proven good games, usually well after their release date. I don't see the "hype". I guess if I followed gaming news sites and was a more hardcore "gamer" then I would probably be more disappointed in games, or just spend more cash.

Only games I want are GTA 5, The Witcher 3, and I'll probably go back and buy some much older games to play as I have so few games that there are a ton for me to catch up on that are very cheap.

My most important purchase of this year will be attempting to get Crossfire/SLI for 1080p/DSR/VSR
