"government closest to the people governs best"
I assume he's going to be pushing for reforms to kick soft money back out of politics?

Was the bill going to allow prescription drug imports or are you proposing price controls? Look through our history and tell us how well price controls have performed in the real world.

Anyways this isnt the thread to get into this debate. Lets just say the current bill will do little to reduce the "costs" of the system imo.

Meh, most everyone else in the thread is muttering about where his eyes were looking and trying to come up with names to call people, so lets not sanctify the thread too much.

It wasn't a great bill, but it was about as far as we could feasibly move the ball at once. The reason drug imports would be a reason to save money is because Canada et all negotiated lower prices for their drugs because they represented a very bulk purchase. Single payer here would have the same buying power.

Look at that he didn't spend a trillion dollars and he didn't lose 4 million jobs.

wtf does that have to do with government being close to the people or with corporations buying our political rudder?

and no, he isn't any either of our recent presidents

The biggest take away is body language from all of this as it always is. You guys that know business understand.

These are the subtle clues that gauge what the speaker is presenting. Failure to spend a few seconds on each side of your audience, let alone a state of the freaking union - this president has no confidence, no leadership. I never saw him look into the camera, i never saw his eyes, and this was going from multiple feeds of the major networks.

You are weak Obama and if you cannot look us into the eye then you are not telling the truth.

OMG,

He just stated that if anyone can do xyz, let him know.

First, and foremost, I have ideas...

Secondly, I hope some genious tools him.

Thirdly, I guess it is all fake, and our letters and ideas go in the trashcan.

I'm just gonna say bingo the next time he says Maobama. Ditto to the Pub response calling for "strong families". Bingo again.

The most striking thing was the Republicans, the disgusting bastards that hate this country.

Never in my lifetime have I've seen empty seats. Half the fuckers didn't even show up.

The ones that did show up just shock their heads saying NO the whole hour and ten minutes of the speech and of course never stood up.

Very sad

We are the Divided States of America

At least McDonnell sounds like he has a speech that has a beginning, middle, and end tied together with themes.

Obama was all over the place with his.

I was disgusted by the America hating bastards that kept standing up and clapping, that bastard that wouldn't shut his pie hole also irritated me.

Sure. One of the main ways to let somebody know they are beneath you is to never look them in the eye and keep your eyes above theirs. Basically to look over them as if their opinion is below yours. The goal is to point your eyes about a foot above theirs.

This kind of body language will not intimidate the audience but make them feel like they should look to you for guidance.

The look straight into the eye can flag defensive mechanisms, but only if it's more than a few seconds. So the direct eye contact for a second or two shows trust as long as you look away. This is mutual trust and is taught in any speaking class and verified by experience. I'm almost 40, body language means more to me than what you say.

Body language says much more than words.

Care to take a guess what happens when/if we start reimporting drugs from canada?

Their drugs will go up or they will be limited on how much they can buy. Makes for a nice soundbite, but it will no do anything in reality.

And i wasn't suggesting that we do, I was suggesting they get their prices by negotiating as a single large entity, and that we do the same thing on our own.

Here's a tip Spidey-boy - he was - sit down for this one - reading his speech off of tele-prompter screens located to his left and his right

you comments about eye contact are - for someone with an IQ higher than the likes of PatrANUS, perhaps the silliest thing you've ever said in this forum - and that's saying something.

Eye contact with a camera? Really - are you kidding me?

This is just another example of the divide that drives the extremes on both sides - you have to pick at everything you see - there is never a common ground.

DMC - I actually thought this was the best behaved GOP bunch in one of these in years - not that it was anything to jump up and down about, but they stood at times and clapped a few times.

Lieberman's golf claps were assinine - no surprise though

good to hear Obama talk of building new nuclear power plants - well past due.
