Given the direction that MS is moving, xbl should be free. Now is the time to change this. Xbox1 is essentially the PC for your living room. Its no longer a stand alone gaming console. Make xbl free and bring all major franchise games to PC. Halo, gears, forza....etc.

They will never do that as many have said xbl is better than psn but I never saw a difference. Most of my online console friends are on psn anyway and now that also is not free. They have to pay for the upkeep somehow. I don't see MS giving away anything for free.

Keep dreaming. Those games will forever be Xbox exclusive titles. Not just exclusive on console but to the platform. Not like when they can claim "only on playstation" while meaning to say "not on Xbox" or vice versa.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. Why not invest millions into console R&D, lose money on every console sale, then rip out the revenue stream making the division sustainable by making it free, thus making the networking side of Xbox ALSO a net loss, and then kill the console's market by taking its compelling software exclusives to another platform.

Why don't you just say, "Microsoft should get rid of the Xbox division."?

Well, they ARE bringing the Gears remaster (and its exorbitant price) to PC, along with Killer Instinct and Fable. Granted, one's a remaster of a PC title, one's something of a niche genre that doesn't really move consoles, and the third is a free-to-play title that'll be banking on microtransactions to survive, so expanding the player base makes more sense. I doubt this means we'd see Forza or Halo make the jump.

Yea they didn't do great in sales until they stated reducing the price and which ultimately is why I ended up buying one too. Hell I still have not activated my xbl year card yet. Haven't played it in a while as I only got it for exclusives and the ability to stream games to my windows 10 PC is a plus.

Well killer instinct is on a business model designed for sustainable income over time and they are going to be competing with street fighter 5 with exclusivity to playstation offering cross platform play between PC and ps4. I think the income from killer instinct flat lined and they are trying to generate sales too. For Xbox there is no reason to bring all their games to PC because they would cannibalize their console sales and having some good games you need an Xbox one for and need to subscribe to xbl gold keeps money coming in.

I'm just wondering why I pay for xbl if most xb1 games are going PC where online is free.

For many people it's far easier to get an Xbox one or ps4 and play with actual friends online than to get everyone to build a PC and do the driver dance for new games. That's really what it comes down to if the stuff you are interested in is on all platforms.

Because $40/year for LIVE (it's on-sale all the time, and Bing Rewards basically makes it free) beats buying a new GPU every couple of years (or spending $400+ on a long-term, high-end one), getting a proper PC gaming setup (desk, monitor, etc.), and getting all of my friends to switch platforms as well.

It's just not that expensive for hardware longevity and not fighting to get things working for a group of friends or not being able to sit back and relax when you play because PC is a much more-involved setting.

Come again? You can stream XB1 games to a Win10 PC?

World of Tanks coming to XBone July 28. Pre-download July 10th, with a free Beta weekend the 11-12th.

Will be cross-platform play...XBone vs 360 players. Only difference in the game is the graphics on the One.

I haven't done it yet because I'm still on windows 8.1 but I'll soon be upgraded to 10 sometime after its out if doesn't have too many incompatibility issues. It's an app within windows 10 that lets you stream your xb1 games to your PC monitor. Pretty useful if someone is using the TV where the xbox is hooked up. Works on laptops too all you have to do is hook up your controller to it. Hopefully as long as you have a stable connection it will be better than PS TV.

Did they say no carryovers, or just two new games? I imagine they wouldn't ever go with 3 games, but I'd at least be curious on that.

I'm wondering if this also starts the 360 manner of a retail and a digital-only title. Maybe Forza 5 in August, before the September Forza 6 launch. Maybe Tomb Raider in October, before the Rise of the Tomb Raider launch in November. Not sure what September would bring, since the only October titles with a prequel on the console are Syndicate and Guardians, and I doubt Unity or TMCC would be the free game.

Or, maybe since Black Flag is free 3 months before Syndicate, Tomb Raider will be in August, 3 months before Rise is out.

What do you mean by carryovers? Also, if I "buy" the free games from their website instead of installing them can they be installed anytime as long as I have xbox live active?

Yes you can install them any time. Once you complete checkout it is yours. A carryover means sometimes a game from last month doesn't get changed and you only get one new title for that month.

Yep. It's a feature of W10, and it's in the W10 preview right now.

Pretty nifty, although I wasn't too impressed with the Steam version of this... hopefully the Xbox version is better. I can't see me ever using it that often though... maybe to play off my projector or something.

I'd only use it because my PC and Xbox share a TV. With game streaming, I could play and still see my messages on PC, for example. Or it's easier to do some catching up on sports scores between Halo matches.

That, or if I ever commit to an HTPC, it'd make the One portable within the home.
