Whoa. Was at Target checking out game sales and they had two brand new sealed XB One Day One Editions in stock. How the hell?

If I had to guess, they bought them from Target with a Red Card (90-day base return policy + bonus 30 days = 120 day return window), and tried to resell them. They kept them around hoping that they'd sell, but they realized that their window was closing fast (120 days from 11/22 is 3/22). So, they had no choice but to return the units, or attempt to sell them for a price that they weren't willing to accept.

April update
What to expect in this update preview

For those of you that participated in last month’s (1403) update preview, this preview wave will be a little different:

The 1404 update preview will run a bit longer than the 1403 preview. As a result, not all of the features listed below will be available in the first 1404 update. Some features will be enabled in 1404 updates that are rolled out later in the preview.

Some of the features listed below will be enabled outside of a console update. Keep an eye on the forums for announcements and information on when new features are made available.

What’s new in this release?

•Game and app saves and updates. A game save progress bar will show you the status of your game saves. You will also be able to easily tell what games and apps are being updated or have been updated recently.
•Friends improvements. Notifications will be added to see when favorites and friends sign in to Xbox Live. This actually was one of the most frequently requested features from the first preview wave and we made it a priority to include it in the April update. Also, friends who are in multiplayer will be identified in the friends list. We’ll also add the ability to view friends’ most popular apps.
•Blu-ray 50 Hz video output support for content recorded at 50 Hz will resolve video playback issues some Xbox Live members in Europe are experiencing.
•Kinect voice and motion improvements will continue to fine tune the quality and reliability of Xbox One commands.
•Improved GameDVR video quality through compression algorithm improvements.
•Updates to Xbox One device management to address issues controlling TVs, set top boxes, and receivers that our customers have reported.
•New audio settings to tune how much volume is lowered when Kinect is used in communications.

I'm so tempted to grab one of those Day One editions...

Doesn't help that there are all of 8 exclusives after Kinect Sports Rivals and literally nothing else on the horizon for the remainder of 2014 to compete for my income.

Say the words Banjo Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day and you have my attention.

Assuming there is anything left of Rare at this point.

I'm done buying xbone games unless they are exclusives or call of duty. I'll be getting a ps4 soon, probably this week actually if I can swing it. The only reason I got the xbone was titanfall, dead rising 3 and plants vs zombies and I've got all those games so far.

after not being able to party up with friends during the last dashboard beta, i opted out of it. that was really annoying. glad to see friend notifications coming back. i'm still just 100% baffled as to how they removed so much basic shit and have to patch it in now. also sad to see there is still no mention of auto-sign-in if you aren't using kinect. hopefully it just gets slipped in there.

Sadly, I don't see the auto sign in without the Kinect happening. They are trying to have as many features push the Kinect, and that sometimes means not having features for those without. They are going to continue to treat most things as if the Kinect was still required and give those who choose not to use it only the minimalist of features, just enough to get by gaming.

then maybe their next update will include a 30ft kinect extension cable!

Netflix looks like shit, its grainy.

When you get the HD streams it is fine but the superHD obviously is better. This is why I use my ps4 for Netflix.

It also depends on your connection a lot. If you drop packets or have high latency you will be stuck with SD quality.

...or if you're stuck on an ISP that hasn't extorted Netflix yet. 😛

What do you mean? Their deal with the ISP to share the ISP network? Comcast told them to take a hike yet I consistently pull superhd from them on Comcast. Superhd isn't restricted to specific ISPs anymore, they opened it up to everyone who has the bandwidth.

He is implying ISPs are throttling Netflix unless they come to a deal with said ISP (meaning Netflix is paying them lots of moneys).

Just a update on my console return, I was sent a emial from support saying i could get a game from Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, or Zoo Tycoon. So thats was a plus.

Does Netflix pull that much or do you pull that much on a speed test? Multiple ISPs have been accused (and proven to be guilty of, IIRC)of throttling traffic of Netflix and similar sites.

If I watch my bandwidth usage via my router from the port my PS4 is on while watching a netflix stream that supports super HD, I'm above 10Mbps. I had heard about netflix throttling before elsewhere so I checked when I was having issues with my internet speeds. Turned out to be something on Comcast's end which affected everything, even web browsing. I believe Netflix has a server in Miami which is pretty close to my location which could be why I get good speeds from them.

On a speedtest I get this.

I read somewhere...think it was on dslreports or something about poor netflix performance and people said it was because netflix was trying to get comcast to go with a plan that allowed netflix to host servers on Comcast infrastructure for free to provide better service to comcast customers. Comcast said no way because it is your responsibility, not theirs, to provide the required bandwidth at peering points from your partners. Then netflix looked to net neutrality, hoping to force ISPs to open up the bandwidth no matter the usage. Then on Feb 24 Netflix and Comcast signed a deal where netflix pays comcast and is allowed to use comcast's network directly to serve movie streams. They dropped Cogent which was a middleman as the primary route into comcast's networks, but cogent was unable to keep up with the demand which prompted netflix to try to work out deals with ISPs. It seems that now they are going to start paying for access to the major providers' network.

What this means is that if comcast was throttling before which I heard they did but never really experienced, they will no longer, as netflix is doing direct peering to comcast now and paying a fee for this access which basically tosses the net neutrality thing out the window. Other ISPs may do the same thing. Allow Netflix direct peering if they pay them, otherwise they will continue as they do now...if it works great, if it doesn't you blame netflix for not paying for enough bandwidth through their peering partner.

Anyhow there is no reason Netflix shouldn't be getting SuperHD through the XB1. I mean it even works through my Blu-Ray player and TV which both have super slow processors and much slower network features.
