I agree with your thoughts, you're just coming on too strong (as usual). No, this 10% bump won't make any discernible difference to the end user. Basically, we're not going to magically go from 4x to 8x AA (or whatever) but we might gain an extra frame or two here and there.

And that's pretty much my point. Us here at the AT forums have no idea what the limitations are that developers are pushing. It's just all guessing on our part, so making any kind of definite claim is shortsighted.

exactly. we have no clue. and yes, i know that 10% isn't going to make a 720p game now run at 1080p instead, or double the aa.

it's just stupid to make claims like 10% wont make any difference in games. it is going to make a difference somewhere at some point, since you know, there is now 10% more power.

His point was that all the current games that are close to being finished won't benefit any way from this. The developers were already targeting the game to run at 1080p @ 60fps (or whatever) on the current CPU speed. Bumping that won't change anything except for how hard the processors works to hit that mark.

You can't parallel that on the PC, unless you're confined with the exact same settings and a FPS cap. Say you have a game that you can run at a locked 60FPS with your current CPU speed. Bumping that CPU speed by any amount won't make the game have any visual benefit. Now, you can tweak the game to take advantage of that, but since console games come out at a specific setting and stay that way, only games that haven't been finished will benefit from any speed increases.

I think in the future, when new engines are being developed we can expect developers to add things they could not before. That is probably reasonable to expect.

I should have been specific, I see that now.

Isn't it possible that their target of 60fps holds true for 95% of the game, but in certain circumstances (i.e. multiplayer) the FPS drops momentarily, or worse? Of course it's possible, and it's also very possible that the extra 10% could help.

Also, there are several possible benefits other than the actual FPS. And even more outside of the games.

I have no doubt that the engineers would not make such a decision if there were truly no benefit. "Let's raise power consumption and heat output for no benefit... Genius!"

Yeah cause I totally said they did it worthlessly...no I didn't.

Other people got what I was saying.

On the fps issue it might be possible, but I thought console engines were locked. They don't change performance on the fly like that unless they are optimized for the new specs. No?

True. Still a good thing, considering how much people complained about having to have a gold account to watch Netflix. Now at least you can share the account for purposes of Netflix, which cuts that complaint in half.

Except, most games don't suffer that problem. And the ones that do aren't because of being CPU bound. I have a computer many times faster than an Xbox 360 or a PS3 and Dark Souls still slows down to a crawl in Blight Town.

In a lot of games, you won't notice any difference. Perhaps in some very few cases, this will help. But in the current group of launch area titles, you won't see any difference. In future titles, you could see things that couldn't be added before.

Oh, I agree that the 10% cpu boost probably won't make a noticeable difference in the majority of launch titles. But it is definitely possible that it could make a difference in certain circumstances.

Of course, it would be ridiculous for any of us to say that it definitely will make a difference. Just about as ridiculous as it is to say that it definitely won't make a difference.

The same profile cannot exist on more than one device at a time, which includes thumb drives. It sounded like people thought they were going to need to plug their thumb drives in to access their profiles, but that doesn't seem to be the case since the X1 and 360 profiles should be separate.

This really isn't a very good analogy. "+ performance" on a car can mean quite a huge number of things have changed to provide a demonstrable benefit. If you're just talking about things like horsepower, that may provide almost no benefit in track times given you normally can't top-out a high-end car on the track.

I think the better way to put it is that 10% may be significant. It depends a lot on how the CPU is taxed while playing games. At least in regard to PCs, CPU speed doesn't normally matter much outside of old, DirectX 9 or simulation-heavy games.

I'm probably behind on my info, but does that mean across multiple Xbones? So if you owned two in the same household, but two people on two different profiles using the same gold account be online at the same time?

That is a good question...I wonder if that was covered somewhere in a Q&A. A quick search didn't pull up anything about this. Maybe someone can find it.

I believe it means gold can be shared by your household but only one xb1 or 360 at a time. If you could have two xb1 systems on gold in different rooms at the same time for one price, that would be most excellent for people.

I doubt this is the case, it's likely just one console has gold for whomever is logged in there. If that console goes kaput, I'm sure there will be a method to transfer that gold sub over, but I can't imagine they're going to let a gold sub be good for anybody on two consoles at the same time.

That's what I thought it would be. I know there have been some Q&A sessions with MS about the XB1 but nothing about using multiple systems with gold from one subscription that I can find. What I did find is some info (not official) that says you can have multiple accounts access gold features on one console. So you can have a youth restricted account still access things that you allow access to like perhaps netflix or some games that may require a gold account to access.

Well, from what they've stated, you only need a single gold account on that Xbox for every other account to have gold features. And it works everywhere. If you 'take' your account to your friends house, while you're logged in, both of you will have access to gold. Now, I am not sure if a subsequent account on the original Xbox One can use gold while you're logged in on a different Xbox One though. That will probably be restricted.
 
That would make sense. It would be nice if you could get full gold usage on an Xbone and 360 simultaneously, but I won't hold my breath.

As AmericanGunner stated this is going to be possible. If you log in to the same XBL account on both a 360 and XB1 at the same time, both systems have Gold access.

wow that cod stuff where your character/profile can be accessed current gen/next gen is pretty neat. i'm guessing they just use your xbl and psn account for it.

Yeah cause everyone has unlimited internet. If I downloaded all my games and Comcast had hard caps I'd go over that cap many times.

It's not ideal with the ISPs we have with monopolies in some areas. That doesn't even include the people who actually want the box, so they can have a collection on the shelf. People do it with Movies too.

And you could still buy those with the old system. That wouldn't have changed. And, let's be serious for a moment, 250GB a month is a lot of data (Comcast's cap in some areas). That is 10 games. You are going to buy 10 games a month?
