I just have a big book case with adjustable shelves. I keep all my programming/school books I used to need on the top and moved the lower shelf up more to make room for the ps3 and pc game boxes I still have. I have a feeling the ps4 game boxes will be taller.

Was that at one of the Microsoft stores or something? They don't have those here. I wonder if it's just a shell with no guts too. Would be cool if they had some playable stuff for you to see. I know that Gamestop is getting the option for interactives for the new consoles.
 
I think it looks great except for the chrome. The 360's chrome looked cheap and plastic, as does this. I would have preferred a matte gray plastic over this. Plastic doesn't mean cheap - take a look at the sweet plastic Windows phones, or even the rest of the Xbox One that doesn't have the chrome paint. Or they could have pulled an Apple and used actual aluminum. Basically, anything other than that cheapo chrome paint would have made me happier.

Aesthetics of the console + accessories, I'd give it an 8 out of 10. So you can get an idea of my taste, I'd rank the original "phat" 360 as a 5, the PS2 as a 9 (considering the time it came out), PS3 as a 6 and 7 (fat and slim, respectively), Xbox Classic as a 6 (liked it, but it was massive), and I reserve judgement for PS4. I see this as the best aesthetically pleasing console Microsoft has ever made - it's pretty good.

Edit:
One design aspect that I really like is the whole "split" look to it. Each face of the console is clearly opposite to its adjacent surface. This kind of symbolizes the platform's ability to run two operating systems at the same time, which is the heart behind a lot of its features. Cool.

Arguing semantics. It's two operating systems on one hypervisor. It's not really three operating systems that are apparent: just two. The third is just acting as a host to the other two behind the scenes. You will never see it. It's just a technical detail, not a goal or purpose. The goal and purpose were the two main OSes, which is reflected in the aesthetic design of the console, methinks.

It was actually a Microsoft stand... they were mainly trying to sell the Surface.
 
Ugh... So Xbox One won't support USB storage at launch. Major Nelson confirmed the Xbox team was 'busy working on something else' and it will eventually be patched in. Wtf is MS thinking? After it was such a big deal on the 360, they really didn't ensure this was ready for launch?

while that is pretty lame, there aren't even gonna be 500gb worth of games out for a few months, i think you will be okay.

Yeah, I know the storage won't be a problem. What is a problem, is I have had my profile on a USB stick since it was enabled. It isn't necessary now, but it was when I was switching from bedroom console to the living room console when I had roommates.

I just feel it is a blunder of bad publicity they could have avoided. They want to transition into an all digital distribution model, and yet they don't even have USB storage finished?
 
Will it function if you use a usb flash drive to say watch a movie or transfer a save or is that not compatible yet either?

i agree it's such a basic feature that it should be in there for sure. just in reality it probably won't have much of an effect on the majority of end users.

The term used was "external storage device". A thumb drive is an external storage device.

My guess is the changes to the os after the reversal on DRM caused them to remove this feature in order to find a way to prevent you copying a whole game to it and loading it up on another console. The code is likely huge for something like this. They need a way to do it without the internet and since they are not confident they will have it working in time to prevent easy piracy, they won't have it available at launch.

I believe you're expected to use the cloud stuff for that usage. I never used an external USB drive on my 360 but can see how removing any functionality in the console could annoy people.

Which sounds like they will be pumped out way more frequently that the bi-yearly releases right now, so it's not the worst thing I guess.
But yes, I too was looking forward to eventually being able to install games to an external USB3 drive once I ran out of room on the internal. It'll come.
 
Some of you might like this answer:

If I sign in to Xbox Live on my Xbox One, will I also be able to sign in on the same account on my 360 at the same time? Say someone is using the Xbox One in the living room and I'm playing my 360 in my bedroom. Will I be able to use the same account?


WHITTEN: Yes this works! You’ll be able to be signed on with the same gamertag on both an Xbox 360 and an Xbox One console at the same time. However, like today, you can only be signed into one Xbox 360 and one Xbox One at a time.

yeah that's been known for quite a while now. highly doubt i would ever be playing 360 and x1 at the same time though lol.

Well, then I don't know why people are such worrywarts in this thread just earlier today over being unable to use their USB drive on the X1 since you'll obviously need a separate profile. :colbert:
 
Tweets going around from GAME that the release date is going to be announced today. Not going to bother linking to it but it seems legit. Queue NeoGAF meltdown if it's even a day later than the PS4...

Lol...honestly I would not be surprised if it is, but as it happens I already have them paid for so it wouldn't matter that much.

My only hope is I get a little bit of time with one before the other one drops so I have time to mess with it.
