I'm kind of curious if MS will allow some sort of cell phone tethering feature, because as someone else said, yes there have been news reports of people going strictly to phone ( you know..those casual non gamers that MS is going after as a customer base).
Why wouldn't you be able to connect to your cellphone via tethering? They would need to specifically restrict it, and there is no business reason why they would do that. You're cellphone hotspot is just like any other wi-fi access point so there's no reason it wouldn't be allowed.
I love how people haven't brought up one of the main points of the Xbox one. Or at least I haven't seen much on it. That you cannot replace the HDD.
Games of the next gen will probably be 30-50 GB probably fairly regularly, and if you say they will average 25 GB, that is only 20 games that you can have installed and then you have to start uninstalling games to install new ones.
Big win for Sony, huge fail for Xbox one

Who plays 20 games at once? I think your argument will be better suited to storing media. Of course, my opinion is that if you're buying movies on the Xbox or PS3/4, you're doing it wrong anyway.
I don't think I'd call it a "huge fail". Swapping out the hard drive can't be that popular. With 500GB at the start for both consoles, that will last the whole console generation for most. Hell, my brother still uses his 20GB on his 360. Granted, he can't install games but he manages his DLC and such just fine. Again, he doesn't play 20 games at the same time, either. 🙂

And that is what MS is banking on. They basically made an always online console, and gave developers the "freedom" to use always online services and such (like cloud computing), but knowing that internet sometimes does stop, added a buffer for how long the console will function without internet.
I also think MS is realizing the lines between single player and multiplayer are going to be increasingly blurred. Eventually, single player will just mean playing without anyone else, but able to instantly, should you choose. Diablo 3 already started down this road.
Since everyone wants to liken the DRM BS that the XBone has to Steam, some of us have a couple hundred games installed. 😀
Do you mean like how they restrict renting/selling games, you know that feature that they added, and how are can't disconnect the kinect (which I shall now dub nondiskinect).
The way they are headed, I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they say, sorry unless you are using Microsoft Certified ISP carriers (Comcast) where we have monitor(spy) software in place, we have the Xbox 360 for you.
I don't even have 1/4th of my Steam games installed. I could install them, sure, but I don't play them, so no point. I just download and install whatever I want to play at the moment, then delete local content when I am done with it. There are games I haven't even installed once yet.
My point is your are limited to 500 GB and that is the end of story. Period. Another limitation I won't have.
You also haven't addressed what happens when your Xbone HDD fails. You think that won't happen? You think turn around from MS is going to be solid when you can just grab that 1 TB you have laying around and throw it in your PS4 the same day and have zero down time? ANd how much is MS going to charge for the 500 GB replacements? Probably like an absurd amount that you could buy 2-3 drives for. So instead of just going out to newegg or wherever has the best price, you are stuck with whatever MS wants to charge and thats it.
Thats like ordering a RAM upgrade from Apple when buying a Mac Pro
I'll just say, while probably not a huge fail, it's definitely a pro vs con scenario. Also, considering they are trying to tout this as a high end PC, they better expect users to do what PC users do, which is preload every game in their library just in case they may want to play it. Because, you know..people have choices...or at least they used to until the Xbox 1.
Microsoft finally has provided some clarification on the whole "family sharing" aspect of the Xbox ONE:

While this doesn't really help with the 24 hour check in, it certainly helps to soften the blow around the sale of used games, lending, etc...
The only reason they're doing that is the same reason with the 'cloud' *cough, we mean DRM!* bullcrap, the same reason they're doing online 24hr checks, the same reason they're tying games to XBL accounts, etc :
GREED.
They want to resell you all new stuff. Look at the Xbone controller. There's nothing special about it that would technically make it not replaceable with a 360 controller. I GUARANTEE you they intentionally disabled 360 controllers artificially, just to sell you their marked up crap. $40-$50 for a controller that you know cost them $3-$4 to manufacture in China.
someone posted this earlier too ... terrible article.
well no shit lol, this has been going on since the atari came out.
i did not realize that we have another psychic in this thread - AMDZen. apparently my xbox1 hard drive (that i don't even own yet) WILL FAIL! also according to him i WILL RUN OUT OF HDD SPACE!!
remember, this is the psychic that GUARANTEED 100000% that the broncos would DESTROY the ravens last year in the playoffs, and the ravens had no chance!!!

and i'm sure hdds failed on xbox360, and i'm sure they failed on ps3 as well. and people replaced them and moved on.
fwiw owning computers for over 20 years now i've never once had a hard drive fail.
Xbox One uses Wifi Direct as the connection for controllers now opposed to RF 2.4Ghz on the 360 so not compatible at all.
Common sense would restrict it. The current datacaps and pricing for cell phone only internet is pure rape.
That's ridiculous. I've surely had at least a dozen fail in the same period of time. You should enter the lottery and use your hard drive serial numbers as your numbers.
because it won't feel like you are racing against ai but rather against human opponents.
Who actually plays 20 games at once?
