You can do anything except for...

  • Play online.
  • Watch some video series (i.e. Netflix)
  • Play timed demo releases (i.e. Gold only for a week)

The only annoyance for me is that the "play online" can be interpreted broadly by the game publisher. I let my Gold membership lapse a while ago, and while I can totally live without playing Halo against 13 year olds, I discovered that it also won't let me access the storefront in Forza Motorsport (even if I'm only using it to buy tuning setups and paint jobs for single player use). Strangely, Rivals mode is still available.

Although, I do kind of like hearing the SAAAAY-GUH logo when I play some of their games. It brings me back to a better time! :$

What I wouldn't give to relive the 90s with my money today.

Oh beautiful wall o new in box game carts at Toys R Us, Lionels Playworld, etc. Every game for every system since launch all the time isles and isles...

Sigh.

How come no one complains that Steam and Origin basically does similar as far as no second hand sales, tied to one account, various DRM's allowed by publishers...etc.

already been discussed in here. because pc gaming has been like that almost since the dawn of time, and because pc games don't cost $60 brand new and can be found a lot of the time 1/2 off on steam a couple weeks out of release.

Also because Steam isn't the only game in town. You can buy retail games, can buy Steam, GoG, Origin, etc, etc. Because all the competition is there, pricing is outstanding on PC. Outside of super rare titles where pricing stays super high for a long time (usually Blizzard stuff), you can get a deal on almost anything, sometimes even during launch week if you look hard enough.

Also, there's no publishing fees/platform fee BS, so the indie side of things is ludicrously vibrant on PC.

XBL is the antithesis to free and open competition on the platform, by design.

It would be equal ONLY if :

You *had* to pay $XX/mo for Steam.
You *had* no other choice if you wanted to play online
You *had* to pay your Steam account to play Netflix/etc
You *had* to register ALL games you buy with Steam, no matter where they came from
You *had* to go online at least 1x every 24h to play SINGLE PLAYER
You *had* no real way to give a game you bought RETAIL, OUTSIDE of STEAM to a friend, unless certain criteria were met, THEN the game was bricked forever after.

I'm glad people have started to wake up and smell the crap that Microsoft's been shoveling, it's only getting amplified this upcoming gen. They had multiple advantages this gen, like :

*- Great multiplatform versions due to PS3 being stupid hard to dev for
*- Early launch
*- Lower price of console
*- Better controller (subjective? I actually like the PS3 for many titles, though I like Dpads), but I would say that it seems that clearly most preferred 360 controller

What's on tap for the new one? Advantage 1, 2, and 3 look pretty doubtful. And the negative waywall DRM universe of crap they're pushing with Xbone is *not* making it look like even #4 to help in the least.

Basically unless Sony really fumbles (anything is possible, after all), Xbone is going to have a hard time.

Quoting this for the next person who asks. This is is exactly right.

Plus Steam and PC DRM was done because of high piracy rates. With PCs being open systems, it's always been easy to pirate PC games. Piracy isn't as high on consoles.

The Xbone is doing it to destroy or profit from the used game market, and stopping people from loaning their games out to friends.

They are different markets. PCs are tools and are expected to be more complex. Consoles are toys, and should be as simple as possible. Now they have just made the licensing restrictions and DRM on consoles more complex than some PC games.

Actually yes, it is about price AND convenience. There's a big difference here. If you aren't using Steam, then you have no clue what you are talking about trying to argue they are the same.

I never touched Steam for years until the uber sales started. I can guarantee I've paid a fraction of what you have for the same games this gen. If they stop having them, I will stop buying. Pretty simple concept.

So basically what you're saying is that while you hate DRM and always-online checks, etc., you're willing to sell your stance/opinion for a price.

Read Arkaign's post above yours.

With PCs, Steam is often a choice, aside from titles requiring it for DRM. There is choice and competition, and indies are free to self-distribute without using any service at all if they want.

With Xbone it's MS, Live, and Kinect 24/7 for 100% of your games.

If that ends up being the case, the software attach rate will be lower than the Wii's! Good luck MS.

If the original Xbox is on top, then software attach rate is meaningless. As far as total games sold, the Wii is ranked 3rd, above the 360 (even if you take out Wii Sports 80 million unit sales). And the 360 was released a year earlier too.

So yeah... you're point makes no sense? 😕

So, you can pre-order the Day One Edition. And for those that missed what that actually is, in the Day One Edition you get the following:
-extended warranty for hardware screw ups like RRoD
-now worry about having to come up with ways to fill so much space, because it will have the smallest available HDD
-joy of avoiding the hassle of the new AC wireless spec and use the tried and true N
-no brain hurting puzzles of which color to buy
