i own a ps3 and an xbox360 and own ssf4 for both.

i choose to pay for xbox live and play it online on xbox360 because it is a superior experience and worth the price of 2 20oz sodas a month.

Sony has been spending a lot of time building a new network specifically for the PS4 though. It's rumored to be the fastest network in the world dedicated to gaming related features(that is of course because someone at Sony made a comment like that).

that is great. we can speculate all we want but won't know until it's out.

sony also made a lot of "comments" and promises about the ps2 that never became a reality.

i was simply commenting on xbox live being worth the $3 a month because it is a superior product to psn.

We will have to see what each company actually offers. I said a long time ago, the winner of the next gen will be whoever has the best online experience and features. We know Sony is playing catch up to MS, but what will MS do to retaliate. They know they cannot just sit on their hands and hope XboxLive is enough. Currently, it is, but this next gen will be a totally different story.

The major thing that stands out to me is Sony has a dedicated chip for the network features so that while you are uploading stuff or downloading something, it does not interfere with the game play. If it works the way it's supposed to, it'll be a big deal.

Sounds a lot like the Killer NIC cards. Yeah, you might offload some CPU cycles, but does it really help in the long run?

The way they made it sound, yeah...they programmed it at the OS level or something so that all network packets go through that CPU and are 100% offloaded from the main CPU. It's not like Windows. I hope they can do it right because some of the stuff they said you could do with it is pretty badass IMO. Watching live gameplay of a friend and jumping in their game to get them through a difficult part and show them hot it works in realtime is pretty impressive, provided it actually works.

I just don't see myself sitting there watching my friend play a game when I could just play it myself. The only cool thing would be if I was on the fence about a game and I could chat with a friend while they play, but I can just watch gameplay footage on youtube if I wanted to.

You would think that sounds like a rather boring thing to how, however thousands of people watch gamers stream live on Twitch.tv. I am surprised this isn't something they have tried to integrate into consoles. A live stream option would be ideal for people who can't do the capture card / pc capable of streaming route.

You never had friends over the house and one guy died over and over and gets pissed so you say "lemme do it, gimme the controller?" you can do that from anywhere now. Again, provided it works.

Another potential use for this is for a developer to show live gameplay of a game he is working on (think indie dev) and allow customer feedback on the gameplay and such.

Or when you're sitting at work, bored, and your friend on his day off is playing the hot new game. I'll admit, I'd use that feature the odd time.

I thought that you could only do it from the dashboard of the console. Am I wrong?

Really? I'm confused, I thought it streamed it or something too? Or is that just the clip it can upload to YouTube or whatever with the Share button?
If that's the case, I'll never use that feature then. I only waste time at work, when I get home its time to get to business.

I don't like watching stuff on my laptop if I don't have to. When I was without cable last year, I would hook my laptop up to my tv just so I could watch stuff on the bog screen.

You can upload a video direct to youtube or facebook but the streaming happens through PSN AFAIK.

you can watch UFC events on the laptop/pc they have a pop out for that (PPV) and the same with WWE.

Can you? I wasn't aware they had those features, but I haven't purchased a UFC event in quite a while or watched wrestling for years.

I would think they would have some sort of streaming to PCs or some kind of channel because that is big business.

It's bigger business for The Playstation brand to get people to buy the console and sign up for PSN though.

Theres going to be apps for your phone/tablet/PC where you can log in to buy games and download stuff on your console from anywhere. I'm assuming that's where you can watch people stream as well if they ever implement it.

I can do 300 with live. I already pay for live, so this is a discount for me? Or maybe they just marked up the price and are putting it on 'sale' if you subscribe to live.

I take it you did not read the thread. The subscription service will be $15/mo, I doubt you paid anywhere near that for your current service.

I would love to watch some of my friends during their first play through of Dead Space. Live chatting at the same time would be hilarious.

If you subscribe to Live in a sensible way (buying 12-month cards on sale for $35-$40) then the subscription deal is likely to be much more expensive.
