The only concern I really have is the internet thing. I usually have internet, but I live in a house with older wires and every once in a while (2 times in the last year) a splice would go bad and they would have to come out and fix it. I would usually be about 3 days without internet while I waited for a guy to show up. All the other "restrictions" don't worry me at all. The way I look at it, they are basically giving us a digital console, but are giving people like me that don't have the fastest internet a way to get the game right away. Now I can go pick up the disc and install it, and then it is treated like a digital copy from that point on.

And what would you naturally want to do to pass the time while your internet is down and you're waiting for someone to fix it? Probably play single player games!

I agree, and like I said that is my only problem. If they can give us some kind of a work around, then I don't see any problem with anything else. Like I said, the way I look at is this is kind of their way of giving us a digital future while still giving people with data caps or slower internet, or even people that just want discs a way of getting their games.

lol i need to watch that later. i saw the short clip of him saying it but not the full interview. he sounds like such a pretentious dick when he says it too.

as far as the country thing, i find it amusing that the sony camp (even on this forum) keep posting that image comparing what countries can play ps4 vs x1, and using it as "ammunition" in their war. i mean let's be realistic - 99% of the people on this forum are in north america lol. but i guess it's a "win" for sony camp that they can in theory play cod on ps4 with starving kids in africa but can't do that on x1.

You keep bringing up Africa but seem to miss that all of Asia and eastern Europe is missing from there.

I wish there was a site that could tell you console sales by country. It would be interesting to see the disparity.

I heard someone propose the current method employed by the 360 of allowing you to play a game as long as the disc is in the drive when you're offline. That would solve most of the problems with the console (mandatory Kinect and high price point notwithstanding). They could even make it so that feature only works when you're offline, if they're that worried about abuse.

and that doesn't bother me one bit. i'm not playing ssf4 across the oceans, too much lag. i'm just saying that this really doesn't effect about 99% of the people that are using it as a reason that "their console is better than the other one".

Yeah, but the one problem with that is the fact that you can fully install games. If I install a game, I can give the disc to a friend and tell him/her to not connect to the internet to play it, while I still have my copy. There are ways that it could still be used to abuse the system. The simple fix would be that they just make it that no matter what, you have to have the disc to authenticate at start up, but the snaping to other games was a feature they bragged about, so I don't see that happening.

So America is 99% of the people now. Now I understand why everyone hates us.

oh wait..you're right..since it's not being launched in any places that have more people than us.

I don't think this reply makes sense. You might want to re-read what he said, I too had to read it more than once.

Maybe I'm misreading it, but it certainly sounds like he's saying "doesn't affect 99% of the peoples reasons", which in context only applies to countries it's being released in. I would gather (if they cared) that those people who's countries it's not being released in probably care and accounts for more people than where it is being released on a population basis.

Yeah, I know, it could totally open the door to abuse, like being able to lend a game to a friend WHO HASN'T BEEN ON YOUR FRIEND LIST FOR 30 DAYS OR MORE OH GOD THE HORROR!

I mean, if each disc has some sort of unique code on it, which I think has to be the case based on how their DRM works, then you really wouldn't be able to lend the game to someone you don't trust, and who doesn't trust you.

it makes me sad that someone giving an opinion on killer instinct who was talking about nostalgia and ki didn't know this :( :(

I really don't appreciate your elitist attitude trampling all over my goddamn childhood memories. I'm sorry that I didn't have a damn arcade around me, and I had to settle for all the flippin' fun I had playing the SNES version.

Another point is that the developers of The Witcher 3 won't be able to play their own game in their homeland (Poland).

Nor will anyone in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Portugal, all other Eastern European countries, anywhere in the Middle East, anywhere in Africa (even South Africa and Egypt), India, anywhere in Asia...

Plenty of Japanese developers. Is Xbone even going to have any Japanese games this time?

i said it probably doesn't affect 99% of the people who are posting the image as "ammo" for their "war" on consoles.

Dude you know I love SNES more than anyone on all of AT, but I'm sorry, KI on SNES was a complete tragedy lol. :(

Though if you enjoyed it and don't know what the real KI was like, leave it that way!

I unfortunately played it in the arcade and was foaming at the mouth for a home version because of arcade hogs that never let anyone else learn to play, and I was pretty devastated the day I brought KI home.

If one had never played arcade KI, then it was merely another average SNES fighter. Better than some, worse than others. If he had fun with it, it doesn't mean his fun was 'fake' or not real.

No "UUUUULLLLLTTTTRRRAAAA CCOOOMMBBBOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo!!!" on SNES was actually one of my biggest disappointments lmao

Especially how well SNES did sound and how much voice was in every other fighting game of the day. Of all things to take out to save 1k they took out the most iconic voice sample of the entire game!

yeah i too was actually really pissed about that. i mean ki was by far my favorite fighter growing up i spent hours in the arcades playing it. i mean that's why i bought a god damn arcade cabinet lol. but i could only find ki2 game locally, and then had to get the ki1 pcb/hd separately.

and i can tell you from playing it a bit last night that man, ki has not aged that well. but i ordered new joysticks and buttons today to replace what's in there because they are so loose.

Speaking of fighting games, did anyone ever play Clayfighter? That game was weird, but oddly fun.

does it make you even madder knowing that your childhood nostalgic memories of killer instinct are a farce?!?!?

:'(

Why you must ruin my childhood? What are you going to tell me next... that Super Street Fighter II Turbo was better in the arcades than on the Super Nintendo, or that Mortal Kombat's announcer voice was way different!? I ought to put a petition into the mods to have your title changed to "Crusher of Childhood Bliss" :p

Well, I am the one that's applying nostalgia of a console game from my childhood to a console game of today. I think that's more of a direct correlation than from an old arcade game to a current console game. :colbert:

question:

if you never plan on using a X1 to play games and only want it to do the TV, Blu ray and media stuff does it still need to connect to the internet every 24 hours?

also clayfighter was awesome

The TV stuff (anything more than HDMI passthrough and remote control) requires an internet connection. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu+ all require an internet connection. What's left? A movie that you downloaded earlier? That probably does require the internet connection for the DRM.

You should be able to play a DVD or blu-ray without an internet connection or Xbox Live Gold.
