It doesn't really say much for long term but I was surprised. Of course this is only a couple major retailers so overall it might not be like this, but they move enough units to be considered a good sample. The 360 was predictable given the prices...I know plenty of people buying them for their kids this xmas. But the XB1 and PS4 were full price so it was shocking to see the Xbox One beat the 360, PS3, and PS4.

In the EU the PS4 is doing very well, but in NA it looks like the numbers are going to be tighter for awhile. I'm happy about this because everyone wins.

Anyways, I'm not trying to poke the beast. I honestly expected to see The 360 or PS4 on top. Grats for the PS4 in EU.

I played Forza at a MS stand over the weekend... Nice graphics for sure, but I'm not sure I like the new controller as much as the old. I'm fine with the smaller thumb sticks but the rest of the controller being smaller just feels off. I just felt like they were just trying to save plastic with the new design.

I am getting used to it but it still has an odd feeling. The analog sticks are also taller. I dont know if you noticed that or not.

No place around here had any ps4 systems to sell but they had a couple Xbox one systems. This is likely because of the ps4 launch in Europe I am guessing.

Either way, we will see after next summer a more clear picture. That is when all the 6-8 month releases will be here.

Ryse: Son of Rome

I am ~70% through the game, and my enjoyment of it is increasing. The story is very good, and getting more intriguing. The voice acting is superb. And they did an excellent job of making the entire experience feel so epic.

As I've said before... Sure, the combat is repetitive. And there isn't much of a penalty to being sloppy with the QTE's. And the RPG elements around improving your character don't feel impactful.

But I think this game has really gotten a bad rap with the reviews. I really think the fact they had such a poor showing at E3 has a lot to do with it. But they've made obvious improvements since then.

It's a short campaign (6-8 hours), and I don't see any replayability, so I can understand someone not wanting to pay the full $60 for it. But if you have an Xbox One, give it a rental. Or check it out used.

I think MS had more consoles to sell, which is why they are currently winning. I think most people knew whichever console had the most units available for sale was going to be the winner of the launch window. For what it's worth, the BestBuy near me got over 50 Xbox One units, and it isn't the largest BestBuy.

Yeah my best buy had nothing but Xbox one systems available black Friday. They aren't getting any ps4's until January.

Maybe so. I can imagine it's a challenge getting product to the places that are expected to sell the most while not starving the rest.

I spent four consecutive days last week making the store rounds looking for an Xbox One and couldn't find one. People kept saying that there was supply, but where I'm from they were non-existant, at least at all the places I would expect them to be (Gamestop, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Etc). I had pretty much gave up until Sunday morning when I happened to be at Walmart for something else and saw they had one unit left. Snatched it up, grabbed Forza, and didn't look back.

Oh, and I never even took the Kinect out of the box. :p

I'm sure starting later this week supply will be much less strained and probably even abundant for both consoles now that Black Friday is past.

Also the ps4 got more pre-orders so I guess a lot of xb1 units were free to be shipped to retail for replenishment. That and the launch of the ps4 in other regions and holding back units for those areas contributed here.

So, Kinect integration in games so far has been pretty good. I will admit I love being able to say "strategy: aggressive" or "substitution: <player a>, <player b>" in Fifa. The DR3 stuff is pretty good as well. Calling my crew to follow, attack, or scavenge is nice. I haven't noticed any in Forza though. I do use "Xbox Volume (up or down)" a lot.

X1 can have multiple accounts right? Like it could have an account for me and accounts for the kids separately? If so, does anyone know if it responds only to voice commands from the person who is logged in or does it not have that kind of fine-grained capability and will just respond to any command it recognizes?

Well, I think it recognizes commands of whoever is holding the controller. My GF tries to do the voice commands while I'm playing DR3 and it never will do it.

It can log you in automatically with facial recognition, so I assume it can detect who is giving commands and not accept them from anyone but you.

Do you have to be holding the controller for the voice commands to register? I thought you were able to issue "Xbox on" when you enter the room?

FWIW... I've seen a few places around here with PS4's on the shelf... I have yet to see an Xbox One in retail.

Oh, you're the guy! When I first tried out the volume commands, I wondered if anyone would actually use that. ;)

Yes, you can have multiple accounts. But, at least with me and my family, anyone can shout out and the Xbox will listen.

No, you don't need to have the controller in hand.

For Xbox On, no, but I believe for the rest of the commands, it has to be the person signed in and using the controller. At least, inside games.

I've never needed having to hold the controller in order for my voice to work. I turn the One (with TV and audio receiver) off every night while waiting at the front door for the dog to get done with her business before bedtime. I've also navigated the OneGuide from my recliner while feeding my daughter...the Kinect can't see me and I'm the only one in the room.

However, I do wonder if it locks down voice commands if it recognizes somebody with the controller in-hand.

I've never tried without the controller or being seen by the Kinect. I just know that if I am playing Dead Rising 3, the game will not recognize my GF's voice commands. It has to know, somehow, she isn't playing and I am.

The Kinect knows if you're holding a controller (Kinect can see teh IR built-in to the top of the controller) and if you setup the face login, it knows who you are. It may even look to see who's mouth is moving, not sure.

This doesn't shock me at all. The sooner the vocal hardcore gamer crowd realizes their voice isn'y as loud as they think it is, the easier it will be for them to understand why the Xbox One is doing so well out the gate.

The problem I see is outside north america. Microsoft isn't even planning a launch in many regions. Granted they didn't do well in those regions anyway but with no option they will just buy ps4s.

North america will be a good split I am sure. I do know a couple people who waited too long and couldn't find a ps4 but they managed to get an xb1 instead. They may buy a ps4 too at some point though.

i wouldn't call that a "problem" at all, considering they had the same "problem" during the 360 gen and ended up just fine.

and lets be real - 99.99% of the people that American Gunner was talking about are not in these regions where they don't do well. and yes, i 100% made up that number, but you know what i mean.

They benefitted from people replacing broken systems as well. I won't try making up a percentage but I know a couple people who did that, myself included. I actually bought 3 Xbox 360 systems. One was to replace a broken launch console and the other was purchased when I gave my old one to a friend.

But beyond that I am talking about global sales. Without even launching in a specific area there is going to be zero sales. We will have to see if that has any effect in the long term.

MS will sale consoles to other markets starting in 2014, just like Sony. But purbeast was right, I am talking about the people on this board and many others that thought that there was no way that the Xbox One would see strong sales numbers. They will have to get it in their head that they are a very small minority when it comes to the amount of people that buy consoles.

In the regions that Microsoft is ignoring, I'm sure they figured out by now that it's more profitable to pretend they don't exist. I'm surprised they still bother with Japan.
