a really old Power Macintosh 7600. It still runs to this day and the case design was very well done. very much like a car hood with a stick holding everything. it is an almost screwless design.

160gig hard disk 5400rpm
15 inch glossy WS with the LED back lighting
256mb 8600GT

i havent actually got it yet, its still on a truck somewhere in europe.

shocking as apple. i found out today apple basically only pay for the most basic shipping for the european customers at least. a few people have been told by TNT (the logistics company they use, as well as UPS) that apple pay the bare minimum and all the products ship out on the lowest priority and slowest method.

so if say a cargo plane breaks down (as one has done, and has then sat around in a chinese airport for 2 days) then basically the apple products will be last to get re directed. and once they get to the european distribution center in Arnhem, holland, they are sent out on trucks to the UK, instead of being plonked on a cargo ferry and sailed across the north sea direct to the UK.

considering the premium apple charge for most of their kit....i find that unacceptable

Do you have substantial evidence that says that Dell, HP, Compaq, IBM, or any of the other bigs do it differently?

And I am starting to get tired of the whole "apple charges more than others" argument. If it is too much money, buy a d@mn dell. No one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy apple (though if they are, I apologize for jumping to conclusions). So next time, pay for faster shipping, or more reliable or whatever. If you already think that they already charge too much, what on earth makes you surprised to find that they like to keep that extra money in their pockets?

I will agree that I am a bit of an Apple fanboy, but I was annoyed at people complaining about the price even before I got my mac. But I try not to get overly defensive or vehement about these types of things, sorry if I came off that way.

I have a white Macbook, a 4G 20GB ipod, a Gen1 nano, and an apple keyboard. If I ever want to upgrade my computer, I think I will go with a high-end Apple portable computer, but that's going to be another few years.

17" Macbook Pro
2.33 GHz C2D

Glossy Screen

Overall I'm very happy with my first Apple purchase, I bring it to work almost everyday and prefer working on it over the crappy P4 Dell I have

Newest to Oldest:

Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66 (HTPC)
PowerMac 9600/300 upgraded to a G3
PowerMac 7500/100 with an "IBM Compatibility Card" (In reality a Pentium 100 on a PCI board)
Macintosh IIfx
Macintosh IIsi

My other machines are Wintel based, but due to my renewed love in Macs I hope to pick up a new MacBook Pro sooner than later.

I just tell people that Macs are more expensive because they don't sell crappy ones :D Even the cheapest one comes with half a gig of ram, a dual-core processor, wifi, etc. as well as the full version of the operating system instead of a crippled "Home" edition. You're getting good stuff for your money - that's why it's more expensive.

I have the first gen MacBook Pro that I upgraded to 2GB of RAM. Then my work gave me a second gen MBP with a 2.16Ghz C2D and 2GB RAM. So now I have two Macs, which is kinda sad in a way because of my username.

Heathen! To the stakes!

I think my next computer is going to be a Mac. I am losing interest in PC gaming and I am interested in playing around with Mac OS X. I just wish the Macbook had a more capable video card. Macbook Pros are nice but they are much overpriced.
