and what's a superbowl week without some cheatriots love.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he felt "deceived" by Bill Belichick in the wake of the Spygate scandal in 2007, telling Sports Illustrated recently that the New England Patriots coach did not fulfill his obligation to "tell his side of the story" after the league handed down its punishment for illegally videotaping opponents.

After he issued fines of $500,000 to Belichick and $250,000 to the team, and docked the Patriots a first-round draft pick, Goodell said he told team owner Robert Kraft that, as another part of the penalty, that Belichick would have to make a verbal apology in front of reporters. Belichick issued only a printed statement apologizing for his actions and refused to answer questions in a subsequent news conference.

"I was given assurances that [Belichick] would tell his side of the story," Goodell told Sports Illustrated. "He went out and stonewalled the press. I feel like I was deceived."

Belichick denied the allegation to SI.

"I did not make any assurances about thoroughly discussing the subject publicly," he told the magazine. "I said I would address it following the league's review. I then did that in a way I thought was appropriate. I don't think that was deceptive."

Getting so close now, football fans! After we lost to Detroit I honestly felt that we didn't deserve to be in, but then they turned it around. I think them playing a very competitive game in New England with a back up QB really changed their morale. This is a different team now. I think this is going to be a great game by two physical teams that both expect to win.

So my plans are to use ooVoo and connect with my mom and sister in Wisconsin and my brother in New Mexico. Should be 'almost' like watching the game as a family. Is there a way to use a camcorder as a webcam?

I'll be watching at home since I'm really interested in this game, don't want to be in a noisy bar. Some friends will be joining me.

Pouncey did not practice yesterday and Tomlin has always had a rule that if you don't practice Friday you don't play on Sunday.

I'd love to see Pouncey in because he's not only a pro bowl center but a real class act rookie. The league could use more guys like him, but I'd hate to see an injury in his first year turn into something more serious.

I'd rather him not play. I think he'd get owned going up against Raji with a bum ankle.

The football stadium can fit 72 percent of the town inside of it. One in every 54,000 Chicagoans is a Bears' fan, but one in 1,900 Green Bay residents is a Packers' fan.

I'm confused. If the stadium can hold 72% of the population of Green Bay, but only 1/1900 people in Green Bay are packers fans, wouldn't that pretty much equate to an empty stadium? And how is only 1/1900 people a fan. That seems ridiculously low. These numbers seem completely wrong.

Fox is asking between $2.8 and $3 million for 30-second spots, which comes out to $100,000 per second. Companies should do something else with this money than make a stupid commercial, feeding the homeless or buying p.c.'s for a school would get them more respect in my book.

If the Family Feud question was "What are commercials for?" and you answered "To get respect" you'd get an X and your team wouldn't let you play the final challenge.

Yeah, that's a horribly written article. I have no idea what he means by 1/1900 people are Packer fans. I don't think you'd have to talk to 1900 people in Green Bay to find a single Packer fan. And actually, take the population of Green Bay (101k) and divide by 1900 and that's 53. So there are 53 Packer fans in Green Bay. Sounds about right.

I emailed the author to see what he meant. It sounds like he wrote that part while drunk or something.

EDIT: Ooh, I think I figured it out. He meant 1/1,900 Green Bay residents is a Packer player, while 1/54,000 Chicago residents is a Bears player.

Green Bay's population is 101,000, divide by 1,900 and you get about 53 (size of an NFL roster). Chicago's population is 2.9 million, divide by 54,000 and you also get about 53.

Really? Feeding the homeless isn't going to make them money. Advertising during the single most highly viewed program in the world will make them a ton of money. They aren't operating a charity.

That must be what he meant. 1/1900 would be a terrible fan base. Almost non existent.

so my buddy is throwing a party at his place--which is also his Bday, which is also Bob Marley's bday, and it is also Reagan's 100th birthday.

there might be a pinata Reagan effigy for which we can clobber his head open in celebration. That is one option.

Anyway, this is a freaking fantastic article that came out last week on the concussion crisis and exuberant play in football. It's a bit mroe complex than most of us have acknowledged...it even caused me to reconsider my more abrasive opinions of certain players. :sneaky:

also pretty much settles the "biggest pussy sport" ..."argument"

every football fan should read this,
